Reflections of Vacation Days Gone By ~

It is always so refreshing to get away
Spend time with family
Hugs of hello
Watch the sun set
Walk in the sand
Listen to the waves beating on the shore
Laugh a lot
Watch my grand children play & laugh
Hear about the excitement of school coming up
Or not
Watch my eight waking up
Enjoy the food together
The long table we all ate at
Pray our thank you's to God together
Eat banana splits ~ ahem
Makes chocolate chip cookies
Kidding them about eating my cookie dough
The ride back home
Grandaughter's choice of music
Talking
Dreaming about another vacation
The hardest part is saying goodbye.

Two Things Plus More Came from Seven Things

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

My desire is to share my previous week of study with you. It was a heritage from the Lord. There were so many more than two things...plus so much that I cannot write them all. He spoke much to me about single living (some of which I will share later).

Two things that I plan to do is 1)write a letter a thanks to my Pastor of 11 years when I was going through a very tough time in my life at age 27 & for the many words of wisdom from scripture. 2)have an enhanced time of Bible study and worship daily, first off I vowed to study scripture 5 minutes a day, reading one of the Proverbs. (there are 31 of them, one for each day).

Also, I found a book that I will share with my two daughters who are married; "Common Deceptions That Destroy Marriage Oneness" by Mike & Connie Walsh with Bill Gothard. Mike and Connie attended the first Basic Seminar in 1980. There Mike became a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, since then, Mike and Connie have diligently worked to apply the Biblical principles to every area of their life & family. Credentials of Mike and Connie Walsh are ten children who love the Lord and enjoy working as a team, so their parents can help others.

This is a course on seven universal, non-optional PRINCIPLES OF LIFE by Bill Gothard. (I will copy the introduction). If you ever get an opportunity to atten one of Bill Gothard's seminars I hope you do because it is well worth the time.

1.The Principle of DESIGN ~ Understanding the specific purposes for which God created each person, object, and relationship in my life and living in harmony with them.
Thanking God for my design brings SELF-ACCEPTANCE.

2.The Principle of AUTHORITY ~ Recognizing that God works through human authorities to accomplish His purposes and to give me protection, direction, and provision.
Honoring my authorities brings INWARD PEACE.

3.The Principle of RESPONSIBILITY ~ Realizing that I am responsible to God for all my thoughts, words, actions, attitudes, and motives and that I must clear up every past offense against God and others.
Asking for forgiveness brings a CLEAR CONSCIENCE.

4.The Principle of SUFFERING ~ Welcoming the chastening of the Lord and the sorrows and hurts of life as necessary for my maturity and future leadership.
Forgiving offenders brings GENUINE JOY.

5.The Principle of OWNERSHIP ~ Knowing that everything I have or will have is entrusted to me by the Lord and is to be used in ways that will benefit the Lord and the lives of others.
Yielding my rights to God brings TRUE SECURITY.

6.The Principle of FREEDOM ~ Enjoying the desire and the power to do what is right rather than claiming the privilege to do what I want.
Regaining surrendered "ground" bring MORAL PURITY.(Never build love on human affection. REBUILD WITH NEW PURPOSE IN YOUR LIFE. Create beauty and glory in a life message.)

7.The Principle of SUCCESS ~ Filling my soul with the Scriptures so God is able to direct my daily decisions according to the wisdom of His Word.
Meditating on Scripture brings LIFE PURPOSE.

One way that I study scripture is to set a time. Not to mark it off my to-do list, but to meet with my Heavenly Father. I also bring along a notebook. As I read, I write down thoughts, questions (even the hard ones).

I also write in my Bible. I underline. I write down when I feel that Scripture spoke direct to me. It is my personal me-and-God time, a conversation.

I ask the Holy Spirit to come alongside as I read, to show me the heart of God. (1 Corinthians 2:10-12)

I pray that I will be changed. Even if bit by bit. That my Heavenly Father, who knows me and loves me like no one else can, will show me the areas of my life that need His transformation. (2 Timothy 3:16) That I will grasp how wide, how deep, His love is for me. (Ephesians 3:18)

I may read three scriptures and study them. For context. Who wrote it? Why did they write it? When was it written and who would receive it? What did the author hope to explain then, and what truth does it hold for me today?

Or I may just read, seeing the story as it is, with real people and real challenges and real transformation. Many times I am amazed when I see ordinary people living extraordinary lives because of following Christ. (Acts 4:13)

As I attended services in my new found church I observed the Bible the pastor preached from. The book was worn, tattered. It was marked, and the pages were thin.

I didnít understand then why he read the Bible so much, or what value it held inside.

I do now. And maybe one day when I am old my precious granddaughter will hold my Bible in her hands and see the love letter it has become. The one shared between her Gramma and her precious Heavenly Father.

Elaine, Thank you SO much for taking the time to share these lessons with the rest of us. You have inspired me! Once again I'm grateful for the foundation of studying that I learned from Precept Ministries. We are going to study the book "Purpose Driven Love" with our whole church this Fall. My sister and I have discussed: "Why don't we put this much emphasis on studying The Word?!" Blessings to you, friend, and may your Bible be tattered and worn :o)! Ena emoticon

Yes the description of the Pastor's bible sounds like Joseph's and he actually has to replace his because they fall apart at the spine...

THE DOC ASKED ME ~ WHAT DID YOU DO?

Saturday, July 17, 2010

WHAT DID I DO? I had to think about that & I did some research to check myself out for the past six weeks. This is what I came up with:

My test results from May 7 were somewhat less than Doc wanted me to have and BP high 165/67 so he wanted me to do a retake after 6 months which was June 25. He said "great"!!
My LDL (the bad cholestrol) was down 33 points at 104
My HDL (the good cholestrol) was up 6 points at 57
My Triglycerides was up 5 points at 57
My total cholestrol was 172 and had been 198

But wait til you hear this. My BP was 112/68 and he was surprised!! emoticonAND I was surprised!!! emoticon

He said, 'what did you do?'

All I can say is after looking at the nutritional tracking on SP is the following:
1) I ate a healthy breakfast every day.
emoticon
2) I ate veggies & fruit every day. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
3) I watched my intake overall; avoiding bad fat, chips, mayonnaise, salad dressings except EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), fat free foods, carbohydrates(candy, chocolate, soda,(never touch it), alcohol. I watched my white bread/pasta/potatoes eating sparingly.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I ate fish, turkey, & chicken for meat.
emoticon
4) Every day I took my Advanced Formula Lipotropic Adjunct (4 tablets) which has B6, B12, Folic Acid and a few herbs but not many. I take calcium daily. (These I take on my own).
emoticonand a 5 mil pill for BP/
5) I exercise at least 3x a week and sometimes more walking or treadmill.
emoticon emoticon emoticon
6) Water ~ 8 or more 8 ounce glasses water.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
7) I spend time in the Word of God almost daily...and pray.
emoticon emoticon
8) Lest I forget I got my shut eye and in bed before midnight. emoticon

God is so good and cares about me too, He did the rest.

SUMMERTIME FRUITS

Sunday, July 11, 2010

WITH POTLUCKS, BARBEQUE OR FAMILY GATHERING IN THE AIR THIS RECIPE GIVEN TO ME BY MY DD LOOKS LIKE A WINNER. Hope you enjoy.

Thanks KERMITFRAB

LAYERED SUMMER FRUITS W/CREAMY LIME DRESSING

Cater to a crowd with ease by serving this lovely and luscious

salad. Prep Time 40 min Makes about 24 servings (1/2 cup

each).

Creamy Lime Dressing
1 pkg (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup frozen limeade concentrate, thawed
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup whipping cream, whipped (or coolwhip)

Fruit
3 cups cut-up cantaloupe
1 quart strawberries, quartered
2 ripe med mangoes, seed removed, peeled and cut up
2 cups cut up honeydew melon
2 cups blueberries
Mint leaves, if desired

1. In medium bowl, beat cream cheese, limeade concentrade, and

pd sugar with electric mixer on med-high speed about 3 minutes

until smooth. Fold in whipped cream(cool whip). Set aside.

2. In 3 quart bowl, layer cantaloupe and strawberries. Spread

half the cream cheese mixture over the strawberries. Layer

mangoes, blueberries and honeydew over cream cheese mixture.

Spread remaining cream cheese mixture on top. Garnish with

mint leaves.

3. Serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate up to 2 hours

before serving.

Try strawberry fans as a garnish. Rinse large strawberries,

leaving the stems attached. Cut each strawberry at about 1/8

inch intervals from the tip almost to the stem. Carefully spread

the slices to look like fans.

Put this in a clear glass bowl on a stem...displays beautifully.

Sounds delicious.....I would try light cream cheese, yogurt to replace the whipping cream, omit the pwd. sugar as the limeade is sweet enough....YUM!

Sounds tasty wish I could get: limeade concentrate, coolwhip, strawberries, and blueberries to try it. I wonder if you could substitute sweetener for powdered sugar and use lighter cream cheese, cool-whip and limeade to cut calories. All those flavorful fruit don't need to much extra.
