In the beginning of this year I committed to 10 minutes of exercise everyday. My streak has not been broken since then! Now it is a habit.

The great thing is I often do more than 10 minutes but my streak is enough to get me moving.

I started rehabbing my knee after my knee replacement and I haven't missed a single day of exercise since the beginning of the year. It's strange that before rehabbing my knee, I didn't maintain a streak for this long. The difference is the determination not to miss a day. I realize how important the exercises are for my recovery.

I intend to keep this streak up after my knee is completely healed.

I am right that with you, I have been going strong since January 1st. I try to get at least 30 minutes or more in per day.

True goal

i haven't been writing my food down. I think I felt like I was doing a lot of work and not seeing a lot of progress. I have been inconsistent in my actions. I believe if I'm consistent I'll see better results.

It makes me wonder about the goals I've set for myself. If you have a fuzzy goal, like ones I've set, how you know when you're completed it?

In my life the things that have to get done, get done. Perhaps this is the attitude I need to bring my health goals.

When comes to exercise, I enjoy doing activities. For example, I like to hike and swim and bicycle. When it comes to working out at a gym or working out inside, i am less motivated. Osteoarthritis in my knees, forces me to do less and less. I'm looking forward to knee surgery, but I am concerned about the recovery process. I will need to be consistent in my exercise in order to fully recover. Consistency has been a problem for me. I will turn to my Sparkfriends for motivation and support.

    I have osteoarthritis badly in my knees, too. They can't do replacements until I lose 100 lbs. The best exercise is water aerobics, but the chemicals in the pool cause me to have extreme breakouts of eczema. I let it defeat me for a very long time. Lately I've decided to take a different approach. There are a LOT of chair exercise videos...stretching, yoga, aerobics, dancing, zumba...which are VERY good for us. they allow us to burn calories and strengthen ourselves. You can find many of them on YouTube. The chair exercise team has links to them, and others. I like Paul Eugene and the Silver Sneakers videos. Now I'm doing some seated and some standing.

Don't let it keep you from progress. Some of these routines are fun and can allow you to do more of the activities you DO enjoy.

I'm only giving ideas here. I don't presume to know what's best for anyone but me, and then not always. But I AM seeing progress from these.

I wish you well with your replacements...are they scheduled? I know that once you recover from them, you'll feel like you have a new life. At least that's what I've heard.

    Great idea -- SparkBuddies are great resources for encouragement, support, and motivation!! Log on, talk to them, and you will find it much easier to stay consistent

    emoticon just stay focused and do the type of exercising you enjoy so you stay motivated. Once you have your surgery go slow and do what you can until your fully recovered and can resume your regular exercising....
