Habit

Saturday, August 03, 2013

This was me yesterday -

All day. I had a bad sinus headache that hurt whenever I moved. Stayed drugged up the entire day. Slept all day and all night. I know that my body was telling me I had to do it, so I listened. Here's the thing - I know I feel better and can do some things today. Maybe not all of them, but at least some of them. But, I don't want to. Staying in bed yesterday was wonderful.
Consistency is apparently extremely important to my success, so today I will be coaxing my body to do what I need to do. Coaxing a good habit to form - I like that thinking!

Jogging

Nothing serious here. Just a quote that I found by one of my go-to philosophers: Charles Schultz.

Consistency

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Whew! It was quite a morning yesterday. We only have the kids from 9-12, but it certainly felt like the entire day! No major problems, but attention issues with all of them, to some degree. For most of the time I have them broken down into 3 groups of 3, but even then...

.

Decided I am not looking for greatness (good thing!), but I can be consistent!

Here's where my stubbornness comes in handy!

"I need you to look at me." "I need you to raise your hand so everyone has a chance to talk."

And then I came home and worked out, not intensely, but for quite a while. Consistency!

At the Risk of Sounding Sappy

Monday, July 29, 2013

Today I begin teaching summer school. I have the the 9 neediest children coming from Kindergarten into First Grade. Extremely needy academically, of course, but also needy from the lack of parental support and with behavior problems to boot! I am definitely not looking for a pat on the back because this is what I am meant to do. I always want my previous year's kids back because they know the routine, my expectations, and my concern for them. This group does not know me and I only have 16 days. I have to remember this in order to set the tone for the whole school year.

While I have to teach a lot of reading today, I also have to remember patience!
And...one of the greatest teachers and example of patience ever -

So give me patience today! I can't promise that I will have it when I return home, but I am going to need it here, too. Patience to go through a workout when it is the last thing I want to do, and patience to accept whatever number the scale gives me, since this is weigh-in day. I have set my mind to it and all of these WILL happen today! Have a wonderful day everyone!

You sound like you have the right attitude. Just remember 16 days can make quite an impression on a young child in need. You are there to help them. I believe you can do it! emoticon

I somehow think you had enough patience to spare. What a lucky bunch of children to get such a caring and concerned teacher. Good teachers never get enough credit for their hard work. I still recall my first grade teacher fondly and that was decades ago. Good luck with your weight loss goals. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

All will be well, because this is what you are "meant to do." The kids are lucky to have you. And at the end of the day... breathe, relax, and take care of yourself in the whatever way suits you best.

I am an ed. tech. (teacher's aide) in special ed. during the school year, kindergarten through 2nd grade, so I understand your predicament!! I approach each work day taking a deep breath, with my only plan being to do the very best I can, and let go of the stresses at the end of the day. (But I still go home thinking about the kids constantly!) Will send you some meditative deep breaths emoticon
