My Tastes They are a'Changin'!

Monday, October 24, 2011

There are things in my icebox I used to love that now the sight of them turns my stomach. Most are so good for me, too, like broccoli. It seems to be everything in that category - brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower are also offensive to me. I still love my other greens - spinach, collards, etc., thankfully. I'm not too keen on eggs these days, either.

Spices are another thing that has changed. I loved curry. Now I hide the curry powder in the back of the cupboard.

I was cooking with lots of flavor. All of a sudden I want simple. Maybe it's the nip in the air. Maybe my body is on a level it should be on. I want to sip cocoa in the evenings (my 77 cal loaded with vitamin and minerals and protien). I want a peice of cinnamon toast in the morning. I love to have a pot of veggie soup simmering on the stove with fresh-out-of the-oven multi-grain bread. I'm off the butter, too, seems so greasy on the tongue.

Salt? oh, no! Things seems so salty to me. It inspired me to go through my spice cabinet. Out went meat tenderizers, an msg product, and any seasoning with salt in it.

The healthier I eat, the more I hear my body tell me what it needs. I'm liking this!

As for where I eat, that has changed too. I now set out placemats and crystal water glasses on the table each night. Hubby and I are eating sans tv and computer. Even the animals have to be in the other room. I'm loving the new lifestyle!

We spend years, sometimes decades, learning NOT to listen to our bodies. We eat when the clock says it's mealtime, not when we're hungry, ignoring the clues our bodies are trying to give us. We sit still when our bodies want to move, and move when our bodies want to rest. So eventually, our bodies just stop talking to us.

I'm so glad yours is back in communication. I do believe our bodies can tell us what they're craving right now as well as what they need for the long term. Stay open to the messages as they come, and understand that they may change from time to time.

Making dinner an occasion rather than just one more thing to get through sounds like Heaven. but how do you get the animals to stay in the other room? Ours think 'family gathering' means them.

Day 7 of 46

Thursday, October 20, 2011

All in all this week was a success. There's still some tweaking to be done, such as adjusting to the proper calcium intake and not what I though it was and being very careful to keep sodium levels in check.

The biggest change was getting sleep, real sleep. The other change I've noticed is having a bit more energy and stamina.

This program is a keeper!

Maybe i need to invest in at least one nice place setting at thrift store. Seldom can you find wbole sets in what i can afford but with it just being me an one single homless sets are cheap that would sork for me. But back to tast change nature takes your tast for somthing an gives you a new tast for another. emoticon

This Day is Winding Down

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

Hubby is still not back from his trip. On to plan B so I can meet my nutrition requirements for the day. Flexibility is great. A strict diet just wouldn't work for me.

I'm shocked at how late in the day it's getting, yet at the same time it's dragged on. Most of my goals are met for the day. I've changed my eating plan about 5 times. My report kept saying I had too much calcium. I've come to the conclusion I inputed my supplements wrong. I am not in the frame of mind to fix it right now.

Hubby should be home from his elk hunt anytime between now and tomorrow night. Snow has closed some of the roads in the high country. I haven't watched the weather all week so this came as a shocker. It's in the high 50s down here. I had a moment of panic. Thinking about that is what I mean by a slow day.

Tomorrow morning is going to be a busy one so tonight I am going to prepare my snacks and meals so there will be no slipping up. Hopefully hubby got his elk. I won't have any kitchen space to spare in that case so I need to be prepared.

It just occured to me. I was never much of a planner. It's amazing how many little changes for the good have happened since May.

I'd say if you've been changing your plan to get the right amount of calcium, yep, you're a planner now!
