Celebrating My 21st Wedding Anniversary

Saturday, August 31, 2013

I was up before the roosters today, literally. I'm excited because it is my 21st wedding anniversary.

Hubby and I are starting the day out with a picnic breakfast at the balloon fest in Colorado Springs. We'll probably stay for the concert which, believe it or not, starts at 8:30.

The next stop is Old Colorado City. What a great place to window shop and pick up some anniversary souveniers. Farmer's market is there, too, so of course we will take advantage. Besides, I have to buy a Rocky Ford watermelon for the dessert I am making later. I think a splurge on Colorado palisade peaches is in order, as well.

Next, up into the mountains for us. Another picnic. Lunch next to a bubbly mountain creek. Hiking to the spot works up an appetite. Maybe even pick some wild berries if the bears left any.

Hubby is making a special dinner of elk and grilled veg. While he's busy with that, I'll be busy making my watermelon cakelets. Layers of angel food cake & watermelon rings. Outside whipped cream, berries, kiwi and shaved chocolate.

I had originally planned for a splurge day, but looking at the activities and meals it may turn out to be one of the healthiest days of August!

(I'll try to get pics to post on another blog)

Thank you for the prayers and kind thoughts

Thursday, August 29, 2013

We lost Gladys today. Hubby came home early and found her along the road. She'd been hit. He said she seemed to be headed home.

Something was terribly wrong. Her behaviour over the past few days was highly unpredictible. Hubby and I compared notes and realized there were many incidents of unusual behaviour.

We'll miss her, of course.

Thank you all for your concern, prayers and sympathy.

The 28th was 11 mos. since we lost our Eddie! The pain is still as sharp as in the beginning!

You do realize they are on the Rainbow Bridge waiting for us!

God Bless!
Janet

P.S. As to the behavior; don't you think they 'know' in advance? As for Eddie, he and I both knew that day when we went back to the Vet for another Lung Tap. Please feel free to contact me any time!

New Incentive. Added to blog: A Prayer Request

Thursday, August 29, 2013

I'll be headed back east at the end of October. I'll get to see 3 of the grands on Halloween. emoticon I can't remember that last time that happened. 11 yrs ago? Anyway, it's going to be a blast getting to be part of the excitement. emoticon I'm hoping there will still be some new England foliage left for some beautiful outside photo ops with them.

emoticon There will be a pre-Thanksgiving celebration, too, since we won't be together over the actual holiday. I'm excited about that. My DIL will probably let me cook. Chances are it will involve the apples we'll get direct from the trees at the orchard, along with handpicked pumpkins. emoticon emoticon

I am trying to work things out so I can take my mum to New Hampshire for a few days. She tires easily, but the shore is only about an hour and a half from her home in MA. I think she'll enjoy it. She's a native New Englander - she won't mind the weather no matter what it is.

I have 9 weeks to prepare for this excursion. I won't be at goal weight, but I'll be in better shape than when some of the family that will be there saw me last in Cali last June. If I work real hard, I should be within 10 lbs of my goal. emoticon

~~~~~~~~~~~~
emoticon My shih tzu has come up missing. She's been acting a little strange the past couple of days. Yesterday when I was trying to go out she ran out ahead of me and hid. When I got in the car she ran over to it wanting in. I couldn't take her in the heat. I was very upset with her when she ran under the car both as I was leaving and then again when I was pulling back in the driveway.
This morning she ran out to the car when dh was leaving for work. He had to carry her back into the house. I left the door open behind me at sunup when I went out to feed the animals. She must have run out again then. She didn't come when I called her for her breakfast. I've been up and down the dog paths among the high wildflowers calling out to her. She's never, on her own, gone past the point where our vehicles are parked.
There is no sign of her. Hubby is leaving work early to come help me search.
This is where faith comes in. Please pray for her safe return.
Also, your trip east sounds fantastic! Where in Mass are you heading? I live in Amherst now, but my family is in North Andover. Mass is beautiful in October, I'm sure you'll have some amazing foliage.
