Texting and Driving

Saturday, April 06, 2013

Is it worth texting if you lose your life? How about costing someone else their life?

Tragic story. A woman is mourning the loss of her son because someone was so busy with an all important text while driving that she caused a fatal accident. The textor was also killed.

What was so important?

Back before texting was the problem, I actually saw a man reading his paper while he was driving. Some people just don't get it!

So sad, they just had a segment on the news this morning about how it is illegal in PA to text but not talk on the phone or mess with it to listen to music.

Illegal in New Zealand, I don't do it - wish others wouldn't either. Such a senseless waste emoticon

I wish they were designed so they wouldn't work if the engine was running! Lots of deaths and injuries just to say "lol" on their phone. ughh! Terrible.

Great Walk Tonight

Friday, April 05, 2013

Hubby & I gathered the 4 dogs into the car and went to the local park. The sun was getting ready to set behind the mountains and it was very breezy. Good for us - the dogs could run free because we were the only ones there.

I got a great walk in while he mostly babysat the dogs. I did 2 miles in 32 minutes. Not bad! It started getting dark so we had to leave.

I feel great! Hubby is proud of my progress. It's been awhile since we've walked together. I know he'll be ready for the 5 mile March for Babies on the 27th. After all, he just came back from a month of army training. Me - I'll be ready too! This year I may even time it.

    Great walk!
Do you benchmark speed, distance, or time?
For walks, I usually benchmark time, like 30 minutes walking. For running, I do distance, and monitor my speed, too.

Grain of the week: Aramanth

One of the decisions I made for April is to eat whole grain at breakfast. That will bring me to at least 2 per day. This morning I made 4 servings of aramanth. I had never had it before. No taste that I can detect. When cooked it looks like cream of wheat or grits. I topped it with some stevia and cinnamon. Not bad. This grain will be easy to incorporate in any meal.

I am on day 4 of being outside at least 1/2 hour every day. The bad day it was a total of 1/2 hour rather than consecutive. That is going well. It's energizing or exhausting, depending on the activity. Either way, I feel good mentally & physically.

emoticon Spiritual growth is important, too. Our ladie's group is winding down for the semester. We have been studying "Becoming a Woman of Purpose" by Cynthia Heald. In fact, she'll be speaking at our church this Saturday. It is a journey of faith for me.

Thankfully, growth doesn't happen all at once. emoticon

Sounds like you are doing well with your streak of being out side, but concerned that you aren't feeling well.
Having Christian sisters that you can see every week or more is important and fulfilling, I'm glad that you have that too!.
Having the lady who wrote your Bible study to come and talk to you all at church is so awesome. You must be so excited about that.
I can tell that you love your church's programs and messages from all your blogs.
Blessings,
Karen

I think we are all growing spiritually every day. It's a lifetime thing. Be blessed!

I've never even heard of aramanth - sounds interesting! Do you know if it's typically served like a warm breakfast cereal kind of thing? Glad you've been able to get outside more - fresh air always makes me feel so much better!

April Streak Plans

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

1. Outside activity minimum 30 minutes per day. Not a small feat sometimes in Colorado. The wind is often a challenge in itself just staying on my feet!

2. Healthy breakfast including grain. Grain is to become a closer friend.

3. Every other day strength training. There are plenty of choices here on SP. While a personal trainer is helpful, this is a great site to learn and keep variety in workouts.

4. Positive affirmations every day.

5. Support my spark family every day.

Easter Was Fantastic!

Monday, April 01, 2013

For Easter I attended Sonrise service at skysox stadium. It was tremendous. Part of the blessing was worshiping with folks from all over, not just one church. We all are part of God's family and it was evident.

My friend invited me to a buffet lunch with her family after. Normally a little insecure eating around strangers that wasn't the case yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed the company and the meal. Being alone on Easter (hubby away training) was not on my happy list and it was wonderful being with this warm, caring group of people.

My next blessing came when I arrived home. Hubby was there! He beat me to the house by about 15 minutes. What a wonderful surprise for me.

The lamb stew I made the day before was what he wanted for our Easter meal. I put it into a square casserole dish and topped it with puff pastry I had made into a lattice pattern. It came out good.

I did make dessert but the lamb pie was so filling we never ate it. Carrot cake with jelly bellys and peeps on top of coconut "grass" frosting.

After dinner I leaned against him and fell asleep. All was right in my world.
