Bargains Galore

Saturday, March 30, 2013

I have barely grocery shopped in a month. My pantry was/is stocked with grains, herbs and spices. I'd been freezing veg and berries as they came on sale and my freezer was full. This past month it's been eating that freezer down.

Yesterday I store-hopped. There are so many bargains out there for the Easter holiday. Turkey, ham, chicken, all kinds of fresh fruits and veg. Once the lamb stew is in the crock pot I am going to be busy chopping, blanching, cooking and baking.

It was amazing to get so much shopping done - months worth - and pay barely what I normally pay for just a month's worth! I'll be able to give healthy meals to families in need through my church. I twice blessed. God has entrusted me to be a steward.

emoticon You have such a good heart to share your healthy meals with those in need! good for you. emoticon

You rightly said that shopping for veggies & fruit (even organic) is not nearly as expensive as all the processed stuff. I can even afford grass-fed, rather than grain-fed meats (though pricier) since I'm not buying junky snack foods.

Here's to healthy living my friend. emoticon

Good Friday

Saturday, March 30, 2013

I attended an amazing worship service tonight. As we entered we were given slips of paper to write troublesome things in our life. At the end we nailed them to the cross.

I feel so light and free. What an amazing God we have.

What a wonderful service! It is always freeing to do something like this. We just have to be careful to "leave" our burdens there, and not pick them back up! Have a wonderful Easter! He is RISEN!

Had a similar service at my church last night. Was just thinking this morning how I feel disconnected from the process this yr. Meaning I always want to reflect on Good Friday or even really the Thursday Passover meal through Easter Sunday.

emoitionally connect to the events so to say... and this year I just feel distracted and I'm not sure why.

But still excited that I have a savior who loves me distractions and all.

Those Darn Doors

Sunday, March 24, 2013

Are you, like me, one of those folks who walk into a room and don't remember what you went in there for in the first place? Have you tried focusing and repeating to yourself beforehand what you need only to find something else to do once you're in there?

emoticon

There's hope for us. Phychologists at University of Notre Dame have a name for this annoyance. "Event Boundary". The mind separates one set of thoughts from another. It gives the mind a blank page when you enter the room.

emoticon It's not us aging! It's life!

The thing that bugs me most is when I can't find the salt and pepper and realize I stuck them in the frig. Hasn't happened for years, but when it did, oh boy! More recently I was looking for the phone for something I had to take care of and I was talking on it. That rates an oh, bother! emoticon

How am I doing?

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

I'm doing pretty good, I'd say. My scale says down 2 lbs, but it plays tricks on me. That did motivate me to dance and run around the house as much as I could before leaving for the day.

I shopped for limited produce - I hate waste. I did great just buying enough. I cleaned out the icebox yesterday so was anticipating coming home and just putting things away like organized folks do.

Instead I had garbage, poop and pee to clean up. When I finally got to heat up the dinner I made this morning I barely tasted it. I was still seething.

No emotional eating for me tonight. Just do what I have to and call it a night.

PS. The fitbit gets left in the other room and not on my arm at night. I was aware of it like Big Brother was watching and it made me very uncomfortable.

Thank you so much for your kind comment on my blog today! It's very encouraging.

And good for you for responding peacefully even to things that make you seethe. And for staying on the morning exercise! That's the only time I can do it too, which is why sticking to bedtime is the habit I'm working on.

Gotta Change This Habit

Monday, March 04, 2013

Not exercising first thing throws me for a loop. Somehow I just can't seem to catch the momentum.

Solution: Wake up and do a full body stretch. Get those muscles warm. Talk to God the entire time. A cleansing glass of water, and as I'm going about my morning to-do's, walk or march in place. Have my "pre-breakfast" of mostly protein, then do a 30 minute routine about 1/2 hour later. DAILY!
