May 2012 Goals

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

emoticon MAY 2012 GOALS emoticon

1. Get Out of My Comfort Zone

Why? To grow as a person. To learn new skills. To build confidence in myself.

How? Today I am going to find a class I can attend once a week (I have transportation restrictions).

2. Challenge Myself Physically

Why? Because the more I can do, the less frequent and intense the flares of fibromyalgia. Becuase the more I can do, the better chances I have of keeping the osteopenia at bay

To keep myself from giving in to the days the fibro monster visits.

How? Following a strength-training plan, devoting 3 sessions a week to it. Walking 10 miles per week minimum. Exercise 65 - 70 minutes per day 6 days per week.

3. Continue following Nutrition Plan - It's working!

Great goals Deborah! The first one is the hardest one for most of us to do. I think you have set some great attainable goals that will still challenge you. Good luck!! emoticon emoticon

I need to adopt your first goal of moving out of my comfort zone! I'm going to give it some thought and come up with a few things I can put my energy and efforts into.
I have a "bad leg/knee" from an accident and often end up in pain when I exercise. I've found that I can walk with minimal pain but that standing and exercising puts too much stress on my shattered kneecap. Instead, I rely a lot on seated exercise DVDs. There are some good ones that really give you a workout, both aerobic and strength. Have you ever tried any of them? Are you on the Chair Exercise Team? I get some good ideas there.
Stay focused and determined!

Sleep Tight!

Monday, April 30, 2012

Hope everyone will get/got a good night's sleep. I'm ready to drift off into dreamland. I'm looking forward to a good night's rest. The more consistant I am with exercise, even if I have to break it up into segments, the better it is.

Just goes to show, the program is working in more ways than one!

I love seeing the different ways the program effects me. Hope you got a great night sleep!

I'm finding that I do much better when I break my exercise into 20 minute segments. I've been having problems with intense muscle pain in my legs if I go much longer.
I actually did sleep through the night, which is unusual for me.
Have a great day!

I'm Shrinking

Sunday, April 29, 2012

"My BMI just went up." Pretty much what I said when I got weighed and measured last week. I used to be 5' almost 5". I am now 5'3 1/2. This shocked me. It's been slowly sinking in to the point of reality over the past several days. I guess it will really hit me when I get a bone density test this week.

I just went back to obese range and I'm not happy about it. I will continue to stay faithful to the program. After all, there are medical things going on I have little to no control over, such as degenerative bone diasease.

Today I'm picking up more seeds. I see lots of just-picked fresh greens in the near future. I will re-double my efforts to eat cleaner. I've slowly been increasing my exercise levels and frequency, staying hydrated, and even sleeping better. I rarely forget my supplement.

After all these months on SP I am seeing this as a challenge and not a reason to turn tail and undo all the good.

That is a big change in height. I too am having a similar difficulty and I have my bone density scheduled for May 14th. Good luck and I understand that weight-bearing exercise, such as walking, is very important.

Hey - you aren't alone! I've lost almost an inch and am at 5'3" now. I agree with LittlerCathy - don't get too hung up in the numbers and don't let them guide you progress. I was just at the doctor's last week - my cholesterol is down, my A1C was down, my triglycerides are great, my blood pressure is good - and I gained weight!
Yes, I know that's not good and I need to address that issue, but I'm not concentrating on that number.
All we can do is move forward, take each day as it comes and do the best we can.
Stay healthy!
Sheila

You know what I think about BMI as a measurement for obese or not?? I think it's complete BS!!!!!!!! It was literally created as measurement of someone's body fat 200 years ago!! I honestly don't pay attention to numbers on the scale, tape measure, BMI or any of that. I pay attention to how I'm feeling and how my clothes are fitting.

As for losing height, unfortunately it's pretty normal for women these days to lose height. More than likely you have either Osteopenia or Osteoporosis. Lifting weights will help with either one.

Keep doing eating right and exercising and you will get there. I'm proud of you that you have stuck with this and are on the right track!!

Big long distance hug! You are a great friend and person! I'm so happy to know you!!!

I think a lot of people shrink a little in height as they get older my sister used to be 5/6 and now she is 5/3 I have gone down an inch i used to be 5.2 now 5/1.Just wish it were inches in the places we need to loose waist hips etc

What a great attitude! I haven't been measured since I was young and always thought I was 5' 2 1/2" so I was worried I had shrunk but just measured myself and I'm actually 5' 3"! Yeah!

Looks like it puts you in with a good class of woman since most of us are doing the same (I've not checked my height, I'm sorta scared now. LOL).

I am short and if I lose any more height they are going to require me to sit in a booster seat in the car. LOL This getting older and losing height is a bummer. Just living today and grateful the Lord is my support. I walk with Him.

Yep, I lost an inch which leaves me at 5'1" and puts me higher in the overweight category! But, I know I am healthier and stronger since I've been doing SP! We CAN do it!

I can empathize with you. I have lost height the last couple of years, too, and it is frustration to know that I have to lose more weight based on that than I originally expected. Keep up the good work. You will make it there.

Who Says Farm Boys Are Dumb?

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Here is proof that farm boys aren't dumb.

At a high school in Nebraska, a group of boy students played a prank. They let three goats

loose inside the school. But before turning them loose, they painted numbers on the sides

of the goats: 1, 2 & 4.

School administrators rounded them up soon enough and spent the rest of the day looking

for No. 3.

Now that's funny, I don't care who you are.

And you thought there was nothing to do in Nebraska !

Week 6, Day 7

Saturday, April 28, 2012

Another successful week on the spring 5% challenge. I met every goal, every day. My core is feeling stronger. I find myself sucking in that belly, button to spine, at the oddest times. I feel lighter on my feet, too. I don't feel like an elephant clomping down the hall.

Yeah, me!
