My Best Friend died today!

Saturday, September 24, 2011

Our sweet little dog Cookie was put down today due to an autoimmune disease causing her platelet level to drop to a life threatening level. She had been bleeding from the mouth for many days. She was so sick this morning and could barely stand, so we decided to be courageous and strong for her and put her to sleep. God certainly gave us the strength to do such a difficult thing and we are devastated

So sorry for your loss. That is one of life's most difficult decisions to make. But you gave your sweet friend the ultimate gift of love, because now she is no longer in pain, and will be waiting to see you again on the Rainbow Bridge.

i am sorry for your loss! You will have your memorie of Cookie to help you through this. It is difficult to lose one that means so much to you. If it helps remember Cookie is no longer suffering and has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Man do I hear you and understand. I still grieve two of our dear pets that we had to put down. It was very difficult, and to me, though ours were definitely suffering and the one I grieve most, no vet could figure out what was going on to help her, especially with her, I find myself forgetting her missery and wondering if we did all we could for her. I have found it to be so much easier to grieve the ones who pass without our aid than those who have to be put down for mercy's sake. You are in my prayers as you go through this time of legitimate grief. May the piece of God abound to you in this time. HUGS!

1st orthopedic appt. today after surgery

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Saw the surgeon today, and I walked into his office without my cane. I understand that I have a titanium prosthesis which is not cemented in. That is why I could weight bear completely right after surgery. I'm doing well, and can do just about anything, as long as I keep the same precautions for another month (no bending past 90 %, no external or internal rotation of the hip, and no bringing my hip or leg past mid center of my body.
I'm able to drive now - woo hoo! That made my day!
Last week I did the eliptical bike for 10 minutes and that really felt great. He says that's good, and I should continue that. I can also use light ankle weights for strength and do stretching exercises. I'm allowed to go swimming as well. I don't have to use my cane unless I'm feeling fatigued.
He did comment on the fact that my other hip is quite bad, but I told him that mentally I'm not going there at this point.
The leg difference is only about 1 centimeter, however, it feels like more. He said that often will sort itself out as the muscles gain strength.
Also, regarding the internal rotation, I have to concentrate on keeping my foot straight when I walk, as the muscles at the back of the thigh were cut, and they too will become stronger.
I've got lots to work on!

Irritating son-in-law

Thursday, August 04, 2011

We had a wonderful time at my daughter and son-in-laws for my granddaughter's 12th birthday party yesterday. I was a bit worried about my hip, but everything went well, and we were the last to leave. It was so nice getting out.
My daughter accidently revealed my Spark's password to my son-in-law who jumped at the chance to log in and do whatever. lol I had to quickly change my password. He's a character alright. Wonder if anyone else has a similar problem.
I am going to try grocery shopping for the 1st time today. I'm really looking forward to choosing the items I want, instead of relying on my husband. Actually he has done very well juggling grocery shopping with household chores. It takes awhile before you can take back much of the load, but I'm getting there.
