New Year's Eve Dash 2012

Turkey Trot 2012

Happy New Year's Eve, fellow Sparkies!

It has been a minute since I've been on SP. Lots of stuff going on, but fortunatley, I have kept on running! I've run 2 5Ks since my last post in October. :) Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season! 2012 has been such a whirlwind year! Lots of firsts for me. It has been exciting & I am so grateful to have my SP community to come back to & the uncondtional support from my DH & my DD! They have been & continue to be my coaches, cheerleaders & lifelines! They are my favorite gifts under the Christmas tree every year. Hope Santa was good to you, too!

Signed up for a virtual New Year's Day run with SP. Finding out that I actually ENJOY running in the chilly & wintery Windy City. Well, so far I have completed five 5K races since September, & a few more from the SP virtual races from this past Summer, as well.

2013, I'm raising the bar & training for a 10K & maybe if I am crazy enough, a Half Marathon. I am starting Beachbody's P90X this week, too. Cleaning up my diet with WW points plus...for the umteenth time... :) Our first wealth is health & it is my main goal for this new year.

Many, many thanks for the spark goodies you sent during my "hiatus." You all renew my hopes & are such an inspiration to me!!! Everyone's thoughfulness means so much to me! Wishing you continued good health, abundance, & success in 2013! Love & prayers to you all.

    Happy New Year!

I did my first half marathon before I did a 10k. The half is my favorite distance. I'm not a big fan of winter running but I have been doing it so far, training for my 1st marathon in April. 2 years ago, when I ran my first 5k I never thought I'd be running a marathon.

You will do great with the longer distances!

Tombstone 5K & What about Lance?

Monday, October 22, 2012

My DH took this shot as I passed the finish line. I did better than my last 5K, too, :)

My sis & I at my neighborhood's 5K Tombstone Run this past weekend. My 3rd 5K...

Wow! Already wrapping up the last few weeks of October already! My sister & I ran a "Tombstone" 5K in one of the cemeteries in our area. We opted to wear costumes. There are quite a few cemeteries in our area. It was a lot of fun to see everyone's Halloween wear. I also did a bit better than my last time.

Just read the news about Lance Armstrong...I'm still on the fence about it. I do not advocate drug use whatsoever, but I'm wondering was it ever actually proved that he took the drugs or was it what people said about him? Stripping away his 7 titles is harsh, but if he actually did those things, then it is the most appropriate & fair thing to do. No one is perfect. Everybody makes mistakes & wrong choices. I could never be the athlete his is, without the drugs, so he is still a super athlete to me. He also has inspired millions battling cancer, myself included, & his mistakes won't ever change that fact. Hope he fares well & keeps his spirits up. It looks like he has a tough road ahead of him...but I believe he can pull through - he is a survivor. :)

Been keeping busy with the family this month & time is certainly flying! Signing up for the "Turkey Trot" 5K in my area for next month & I'm gearing up for my SP virtual 5K next week. Started an 8 week 10K training program this week, as well. As always, many thanks for the likes, comments & daily inspiration!!! All the best on all of your fitness goals!

Nice going on the 5k. Love the costume. :D

I'm on the fence about Lance, too. The authorities should simply drug test everyone at the time of the race, not go back and investigate allegations about events long past.

Great job on completing your 3rd race. What fun it must have been to see everyone race in costume too!

Woo Hoo!!! Way to go!!! It sounds like it was a fun race.

Not sure what to think about Lance, I'm not willing to jump on either band wagon. Sad either way.

The Lance story bothers me. The reason they took his titles is "his repeated claim he has never tested positive for a banned substance could no longer be regarded as proof of his innocence too." There's no proof. Fighting the ban is futile because it's impossible to prove a negative. He's lost money in endorsements but he isn't poor. I'm sure he'll be a success in the next phase of his life.

From what I read about Lance, it sounds like it's just what other people have said about him.

My 2nd 5K Race

Sunday, September 30, 2012

Just before the race began - better weather & not as nervous.

There's my time! Better than last week's 33.31! YAY!

Good Evening, Fellow Sparkies!

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend with your families & friends. I can't believe tomorrow is already OCTOBER! Well, this weekend for me was exciting - as I completed another 5K! It was a beautiful, crisp morning. I ran with my sister, who is a life-long runner, & her husband with their toddler in a jog stroller.

This time around, I wasn't as nervous as last week. It helped that my DH, DD, my sister & her family were there, too. I wasn't over dressed like last weekend. It was a curvy course & I started off with a swift pace. Boy by the end of the course, it was such a boost to see the people's signs saying - "YOU'RE ALMOST DONE!" I picked up my pace & I beat my time by 19 seconds... made it just under 32 minutes & change. What a feeling to see my DH & DD waiting for me at the finish line! Woo-hoo!

Well, my husband has been inspired to start running again. We're signing up for a "Tombstone" 5K coming up in 3 weeks. It'll be at a cemetery in our neighborhood. DD doesn't want to join us this time because she said it was too creepy. Anyway, we're going to have to think of some lightweight costumes to wear for it. :))

Many thanks again for your likes, comments & inspiring posts! It always keeps me hopeful & motivated! Have a wonderful start to the new month. Good night & sleep tight.

My 1st Ever 5K Race 9.22.12

Monday, September 24, 2012

Good Morning fellow Sparkies!

It's been a while since I've posted! I hope everyone is enjoying this transition into the Autumn weather. It's great to hear the crunch of leaves as you run or walk outdoors.

Well, I did it! I ran my first ever 5K race on my birthday. My C25K training, the support from my DH & DD, the Good Lord, & of course the wonderful SP community got me there! The day started off cold & rainy. I said a little prayer & then the rain stopped just as the bull horn sounded! As I made my way to the finish line, the sun was shining & my favorite song was on my ipod! My DH & DD took the photos above. It was great to run right into their arms when I crossed the finish line! What a feeling!!!!!

I finished in 33 minutes & some change! Woo-hoo! I was so pumped that I wanted to run another mile. :))) My sister & I are going to run another 5K this coming Saturday.

I've also gone back to WW this past week to get my nutrition in check. As a lifetime member, it's great to be able to attend meetings to share ideas & for extra support. It keeps me more accountable about my choices & activities. It was difficult to stay within my points range as we went to The Cheese Cake Factory for my birthday dinner. But, WW is a program I know that I can work with. I have faith I can reach my goal before Thanksgiving.

My DH & DD took me on a carriage ride around the Gold Coast area of town & then dinner at The CCF in John Hancock building. They surprised me with red and white long stemmed roses & SP's Coach Nicole's 28 Day Bootcamp! I can't wait to start doing the DVD! It was a very good day. :)

Thank you, thank you , thank you for all of your support, SP friends!! I know I've said this before, but I LOVE SP!!!

New Month - New Goals

Wednesday, August 01, 2012

Happy August, Spark Friends!

Hope all is well in SP world. My little corner has been a bit hectic with a family event that finally happened over this past weekend! Why is it that big family events, or holidays for that matter, always seem to bring out the worst in some people? Or perhaps it's just my crazy family (my dh & dd excluded.)LOL! Despite the blood, sweat & tears of preparing for this event, it turned out beautifully. E-X-H-A-L-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a relief....!
And at this party, I also was re-acquainted with an old school friend who happens to be training for this year's Chicago Marathon. It was fun hearing about his training regime. I told him about SP & I hope he joins. :)

Anyway, I am happy to report that I am consistently running each week. I have yet to start that MMA/Strength/Cardio program I mentioned in the last installment. I must say that it has me terribly intimidated. But this is the 1st goal on my "to do" list.
Goal # 2 is to follow through with a new month Challenge (by an amazing Sparkie - NATPLUMMER) to drop 5 lbs & Goal # 3 is to get 1500 minutes of exercise logged in this month.

A couple things that made my day: A very good friend of mine who was sick & tired of being inactive & overweight just informed me that I inspired her to do something about it! Every day, she's been building up her cardio endurance slowly, but surely. This mother of 3 has been making it a point to take time out of her busy schedule to make time for herself. Good for her!! Next step is to get her on SP!

Another friend of mine on FB has successfully lost 20lbs & has maintained it this summer because she said I inspired her to change her lifestyle. I think I'm getting a bit misty... She's also on my list to get on SP! What a feeling it is to be a positive force in someone's life. It's priceless.

Tomorrow AM, I am going to run my 1 mile SP Virtual Race. Wish me luck! I know I can do it.
As always, many thanks for the likes, adds, & comments. My life is shaping into the one I have only dreamed of. THANK YOU, SP friends. YOU ALL inspire me to do more each day & keep moving forward. You all get GOLD medals in my book!

Until next time, keep on Sparkin'!

    Way to go! Love it!

I'm walking my official SP 5k race on Saturday, although I hit the 5-week goal on that program weekend before last & logged my final 5k training exercise.

Who knows, maybe my next will be run 5k?!
