Date Night - A different restaurant each week!

My husband and I work crazy schedules and rarely see each other. We've declared our day off together each week (when we have one) as "Date Night". We've been scouring Cincinnati, looking for restaurants neither of us have ever eaten at, and checking out the value, ambiance and nutrition inside. Here's our take so far and I'll blog here each week to update on our experience.

City BBQ - The food was excellent with very large portions. The value was there because we each took home half of our food for lunch the next day. Best green beans ever! Rustic atmosphere. Dinner for two and a bucket of light beer - $32.00

Montgomery Inn - Undoubtably the best BBQ sauce anywhere. David had the Ribs and Duck, of course as Montgomery Inn is called the "Rib King". I had a Salmon dish with mushrooms, Zucchini and Summer Squash. Plenty left to take home. Beautiful river view, fresh linens, very pricey, $85.00 for dinner and drinks (before the tip and valet)

Olive Garden - Around $50.00 for the two of us, well appointed, attentive service, would have been perfect because I opted for the crusted fish dish, which was well within my calorie bounderies (despite the carafe of white wine), our downfall was ordering the appetizer sampler, the stuffed mushrooms are crazy high in calories, as we found out later.

Marley's in Loveland (formerly, the "Sleepy Hollow Inn") Very open floor plan, very pricey entrees! So much so that David ordered the fish and chips and I had a blackened telapia sandwich. The food WAS good, service O.K. but, we were there at a very busy time. "Dinner" and drinks - $35.00

Smokey Bones Another BBQ place. Loved the decor, rustic and grand, with the Reds game on every one of the many TV's available. I had the Salmon, which was superb and grilled to perfection and their own microbrew beer on tap, "Bones Brew". David had the Pulled pork and Brisket and Crown Royal and diet. The entrees were reasonably priced , but David's drinks were nearly $8.00 each! He had sticker shock from that! LOL! His verdict...sauce not as good as Montgomery Inn, portions not as large as City BBQ. Been there, done that, won't be back as the bar is way too pricey without a river view and linens! 55.00 for two.

Bonefish Grill- This weeks choice and a good one! Nicely appointed, excellent service and reasonably priced. The Tilapia Imperial (stuffed with seafood) and fish tacos were well within our caloric range and super yummy. Would recommend and can't wait to go again!

I stumbled upon this web site after a candid conversation with my doctor. She told me that menopause and working 50+ hours a week was not an excuse for letting pounds pile up on me...it was a cop out. Yes, as I got older my metabolism had changed. And yes, it was easier to come home after an 11 hour work day to get in comfy jammies and curl up with a couple of beers. Now, with the help of this program, I write down and log every single thing I eat and drink. I check my reports. I follow the exercise guides, even when I sure don't feel like doing planks and lunges. I bought some gym clothes and joined a local Zumba class twice a week. I dug my bike out of the shed and pumped up the tires and rode it for the first time in years. God, that hurt! LOL! Bottom line...my thighs no longer rub together, I've lost 10 pounds in three weeks ,but have gotten so toned that I've changed my weight loss goal from 20 pounds to 14 pounds. The cellulite on my arms, just below my arm pits and my thighs is "disappearing". I feel "alive" and even on days when the program doesn't tell me to strength train, I find my self doing calf and wall push up exercises. I'm getting addicted! We took 3 of our grandchildren, ages 4,5, and 6 to the zoo yesterday. By days end, they were crying that they needed to be carried, but I was barely winded, and my legs didn't hurt at all. Thank goodness for this program and for my Doctor. I should send her flowers!
