Cous Cous and Veggies

½ cup dry Cous Cous (soak for a couple of hours)
½ can Black Beans

Red onion, Green onion, Tomato, Red pepper, Broccoli (very small pieces), Mushrooms, Artichokes, Spinach, Kale (leafy greens add last)

I used these veggies, but you can use any veggies you have and as much as you want.

Garlic powder, Onion powder, Kelp seasoning, Spike seasoning, Ground cayenne pepper, to taste (I just use whatever types of spices I like and have)

In a frying pan add a little oil, with the onions, red pepper, broccoli and sauté until brown (about a couple of minutes) add mushrooms, artichokes and Cous Cous (around 2-5 minutes). Add the spices around this time and a little water if needed, then add the greens last. Cook until the greens are wilted.

The neat thing about this recipe is you can change the veggies, beans and the grain to what ever you want or have in the kitchen.

Raw Marinara Sauce

Red Pepper
Some Sun Dried Tomatoes
Olive Oil
Black Pepper, Cayenne Pepper, Basil, Oregano, Garlic, Salt, Kelp Seasoning

This is the basic recipe that I use 2-3 roma tomatoes, around half a red pepper and whatever spices I have. I buy the sun dried tomatoes that are not in oil and soak them for around several hours. Chop everything up and blend in the blender. I have added carrots and onion also.

I love to put this on top of roasted spaghetti squash. I have also tried it on zucchini spaghetti.

sweetly Sour Veggies

I made this and it taste really good so try in out and see if you like:

Sweetly Sour Veggies

½ small head cauliflower cut into small pieces
1 stalk broccoli cut into small pieces
1-2 carrots cut into small pieces
A bunch of spinach, kale (or any greens) torn up into small pieces
½ red pepper (or any other pepper color)
1-2 green onions, sliced
¼ small yellow onion cut into thin strips
¼ small red onion cut into thin strips
(Use any type of veggies you like or have)

¼ cup olive oil
Balsamic vinegar to taste (any type vinegar)
1-2 TB Braggs Liquid Amino (more or less to taste) (add sea salt if not using Braggs)
Agave nectar, just enough for a hint of sweetness
Lemon juice, to taste
Garlic powder, to taste
Onion powder, to taste
Kelp seasoning, to taste
Ground cayenne pepper, to taste (I just use whatever types of spices I like and have)

Place all the cut up veggies in a bowl.
Add the marinade ingredients in bowl with the veggies.

Stir all the veggies with the marinade, making sure everything is covered, then refrigerate for several hours or overnight. It tastes better after it sits for awhile.

Do you wonder why everyone is soo fat? Do you wonder why you see junk food everywhere? And do you wonder why fruits and veggies cost sooo much?

  I admit it - I am too CHEAP to buy fresh veggies! Thankfully, I am in an area that I can grow my own almost year round. I was lagging though and am in a lull between most of my summer and winter veggies for about a month. OMG!! When did those veggies prices go up AGAIN! WOW! How I ever wanted to pay for them??!! Who knows? Thankful a few things will tide me over well enough. Next year I Will plant my lettuce etc earlier.
It is strange I agree, when I go to the store I see the packaged food people are buying. Ready made, tons of salt, lots of sugar seems the way people are going. Help them all!

    I was in a restaurant the other day and I paid attention to the portion on my plate and it was probably enough for 3 or 4 people. That’s how it usually is. I always push aside a single serving and leave the rest before I begin eating….or at least I visually determine ahead of time how much to eat. I find that when I dig in without paying attention, I don’t even realize how much I eat. Before you can barely sit down, the servers in most of these restaurants try an push an appetizer on you, and I think they try and confuse you on purpose to make you order more stuff --- order more of the WRONG fattening high calorie stuff --- because you’re so focused on how good it sounds. Then they push dessert on us. Some places will even bring around a tray of desserts. Funny that seeing that cake or pie right in front of you is far more enticing than seeing the words on the menu. We need better control, but restaurants do a lot to contribute to it. That’s we you should limit our eating out, and try not to eat out when we are starving.

It's best to eat whole foods, exercise, and get plenty of rest.

    Fruit and veggies don't have to cost so much. I realized that when I cut the crap out of my diet, (chips, candy, soda) I had more than enough to buy the good for me stuff. It helps to shop sales too. At some point the blame for America's weight problems needs to be put where it belongs, in the hands of those eating. I admit it, I'm fat. It isn't McDonald's fault, or Hershey's. Its mine. I choose to eat their foods and didn't treat my body properly. Therefore, I am reaping the consequences of a poor diet. The tools have been there all along. They haven't changed.

    Drink of choice? WATER. I never was one to drink sodas. Wrinkles don't seem to be happening either. I look at some of my friends and they are showing wrinkles because their drink of choice was a coke. emoticon

  I DO drink diet soda occasionally. However, I used to have a 6-pack a day habit. Ouch, that habit was SO hard to break.

The last soda I drank was a Thomas Kemper Oregon Marionberry. I split it with Mom, who does need the calories. No artificial sweeteners, and no corn syrup. It was delicious!

    p.s. they also cause wrinkles. my mom is 78 years old and has drank lots of water everyday, for years. she has the most beautiful, moist skin with very few wrinkles!

    i got an email detailing these same findings years ago. aspartame poisoning mimics symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis. i have MS and was addicted to diet pepsi, i drank at least a 6-pack a day for decades. these artificial sweeteners also trigger hunger which causes you to eat more.

my neurologist asked me to stop drinking them but i didn't at first. i finally gave them up 3 years ago and started drinking water, water, water. occasionally when i get a hankering for a soda, i drink regular soda- sugar, calories and all.

thankfully i now prefer water but it took a while to get there. Spark People has helped me stay away from harmful food and drink - especially sodas OF ANY KIND!
