LIFE* for my friends.......past and present.

Life is a blend of the good and the bad,
A bit of the glad and a bit of the sad’
A pinch of contentment, a time of unrest,
A dash of the worst and a lot of the best’
A little of failure, a little of luck,
A bit of disaster and plenty of pluck’:
And who would live long must be willing to know
Winter anad summer and sunshine and snow.

Life is a mixture of laughter and tears,
Hope and despair are a part of the years:
Someone is born and then somebody dies,
Someone is foolish and someone is wise”
Someone is false to us, someone is true,
Now it is play and then tasks we must do:
Who grows to manhood must learn how to take
Joy with its laughter and care with its ache.

Life is a blend of the good and the ill,
And we must bear what shall come by His will:
There must come tears to the brightest eyes,
Care visits the rich and the strong and the wise:
No one escapes when the rain pelts down,
Today you may smile but tomorrow may frown;
So stand to your portion of sorrow and strife,
And know that it’s all in the battle called LIFE!

    A good description of life. I am always amazed at those who believe that bad things happen only to bad people; that is not life. Thanks for sharing the poem. Linda

So true, life is always ups and downs, nothing stays the same. My favourite part is when one door closes another one opens. Every little bit of bad brings about some good.

I AM a citizen of the United States of America.
I AM NOT a SENIOR anything....not a SENIOR in high school; nor a SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT of a company...no SENIOR ANYTHING!
Age discrimination is what that term means to me and I absolutely REFUSE to put a label on anyone----particularly on myself! As mentioned in Grey's Anatomy the other night......"I don't want to look back at all my yesterdays ". My todays and tomorrows are what interest me now. I look to today with enthusiasm and to the future as experiences of positive adventures; NEW PLACES, NEW PEOPLE...NEW PURPOSE!
I love my age! There is nothing "SENIOR" about me....My life has been a beautiful one and I cherish every moment....the good and the bad. MATURE? Sometimes THAT is even in question! SO THERE! LOL. Relax.....find humor in this life. Enjoy....being you at whatever age you are. Live in the present moment. I love you, Sparkfriends. Have an amazing weekend.....have a little F U N for yourself. XO MaryAnn

    hey sparky embrace our "senior" status ... think how many years it took us to get here and how wonderfully we've done it. emoticon only people's misconceived interpretations of a word can make it into a negative vibe. we decide our definition of "senior" and what that means to us ... it's exactly how we're living and enjoying this journey ... with fun and excitement ... if that means riding roller coasters, or splashing in the tube, so be it ... it may be tickling your DH until he begs for mercy or being the last one on the dance floor. i never want to go back to my non-senior years, i'm having too much fun in this moment and doing it so dog gone fabulously.

    Got a chuckle out of your post, Mary Ann. Your blog reminded me of a comic I saw back in the late 70's or early 80's. It showed a man with a long white beard sitting in a rocker on his front porch. He is looking a little frail. The captions read.

Box 1 They used to call me 'needy'.

Box 2 Then they said that was degrading and called me 'poor'.

Box 3 That was also degrading so they then called me 'impoverished.'

Box 4 The government found that name also to be degrading so I am now 'economically deprived.'

Box 5 I still do no have a dime to my name but I am sure getting a good vocabulary.

Not sure the captions are an exact replication but you get the drift. Language does carry power with it. For some, being a senior may mean new opportunities, more time and discounts as others have said. For others, it may have a more negative connotation. Recently, I have read the second book on the "Red Hat Society." Whatever our ages, to enjoy life to the fullest. To keep in motion physically. To reach out and support others in our lives. To use our talents and skills fully. This is what we need. Mary Ann, you rock.

    Totally agree with you.
Just remember: Your age is just a number that is irrelevant to how you feel and look.
I know your age, but I've never considered it.

Have a great weekend. Dance your very young, but very big heart out!

    What a great post & I couldn't agree more. I see so many out of shape & in poor health twenty year olds & then there is V8 with that water skiing 86 year old woman--the number doesn't seem to be what's important to me. My father is 87 years old, & to this day, he has never accepted the senior discount.

    Dayumn - you SO got that right - you GO, girl! My sentiments exactly! So much so that (at least for the moment) I refuse to dye my hair - if you can't accept what Mother Nature does with my haircolor, well, hell, you don't have to look! That being said, I try to avoid saying "never" on things - after all, I could potentially be bribed into coloring if, say, I was offered $1M to do so.....

but, bottom line - I'm comfortable enough in my own middle-aged skin (not counting my own personal issues that have brought me to SP) to leave my hair be!

There's a special place in Hell for whoever came up with that "senior citizen" phrase - what was that person thinking or trying to prove?

You have a great weekend!
(BTW - nice name, Mary Ann - I'm one myself!)

I can live without senior's moments as well ! emoticon

I can say I was starting to feel my age in the last few years but since starting here and making progress on weight loss I feel entirely like a new primate. I have so much more energy, flexibility, zip and zoom !! I've been given a new lease on life so I intend to make good use of it and continue to work at becoming more fit and healthy. I owe it to my family and myself, and even maybe the cats (but only maybe since they have tried to repeatedly kill me on the stairs).

I don't care if you lick windows,

take the special bus

or occasionally pee on yourself..

You hang in there sunshine, you're special!!!!!!!!

Every sixty seconds you spend angry, upset or mad, is a full minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Today's Message of the Day is:

Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you smile..

I just couldn't wait to get home to tell you all that we won today 11-8. Now tomorrow we play for the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!! Haley was sick, but made it through 6 innings. I could give you a play by play, but I'll just tell she RAWWWWKED IT! She even hit two doubles and a single. The runs scored were on field errors. I want to thank all my very favorite sparklers for sending me good wishes, luck, and prayers for them to do a good job....I'm so proud of them! Whether they win or lose tomorrow, they've come farther than any other team from that school has in a looooooong time, if ever. Last year they took 3rd with the best team they'd had in a few. We had so much fun watching and cheering for them. The other team brought four buses of kids and we didn't bring any.....so you know who the big mouth CHEERLEADER was.....GUILTY AS CHARGED! My daughter and I .......friends and mothers. We did actual cheers...Like crazy ones from our own teams way back when! It was so much fun and the kids loved it. They were all intimidated at first by the buses unloading out there and all their fans, but we showed em! LOL.

Haley catches a third out pop-up. Go, HALEY, GO HALEY!!

Stay tunes....WIN or LOSE.....THEY ARE ALL WINNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FRIENDS * Past & Present

Monday, October 05, 2009

As I ponder my friendships past and present, I searched for this poem and found it...My friend passed away this week at age 58 and we just buried him today. I hope you will enjoy this and reflect on the friendships you've formed through the years. LOVE & APPRECIATE THEM...TELL THEM HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO YOU....I have been so sappy these past few days. I won't apologize for taking my relationships so very seriously and loving deeply....Have a lovely night, my Sparkfriends. XO Mary Ann
PS I will be sooooooo ready to celebrate life dancing this weekend! It makes me feel full of joy and hope. I hope all my friends will learn to dance as though no one is watching, as it really doesn't matter if you are Fred or Ginger......As long as you can enjoy the dance. XXXXXOOOOO

I'd like to be the sort of friend that
you have been to me;
I'd like to be the help that
you've been always glad to be;

I'd like to mean as much to you
each minute of the day
As you have meant, old friend of mine,
to me along the way.

I'd like to do the big things and
the splendid things for you,
To brush the gray from out your skies
and leave them only blue;

I'd like to say the kindly things that
I so oft have heard,
And feel that I could rouse your soul
the way that mine you've stirred.

I'd like to give you back the joy
that you have given me,
Yet that were wishing you a need
I hope will never be;

I'd like to make you feel as rich as I,
who travel on
Undaunted in the darkest hours with you to
lean upon.

I'm wishing at this time that I
could but repay
A portion of the gladness that
you've strewn along my way;

And could I have one wish this year,
this only would it be:
I'd like to be the sort of friend
that you have been to me.

    Thank you for posting that poem. I have learned this year that things can change in your life from one minute to the next for good and bad. Never let your friends wonder how much they mean to you. Make sure you tell them each day how much they mean to you cause you never know what tomorrow may bring. Nobody should ever have to apologize for loving their friends.

You have become a good friend to me in a short amount of time here and I thank you for your friendship.
