Low CARB LULU....Arrrggghhhhh!

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

JUST SAYING...........This is day three of under 20 carbs and I mean to tell you....IT'S HARD FOR ME~ Getting off the white stuff is difficult, but I feel sooooooo MUCH BETTER ALREADY! The bloaty feeling has dissapated....the craving for sugar is diminishing....energy level is coming back. WOOOHOOOOOO! I needed to tell you this, since I have really never done the induction before. When I started low carbing it was staying under 60. I will do this....for two weeks and then start adding green veggies and 15 almonds a day in the third week. I'm tired of messing around with a "few" pounds to go to goal....slip.....down those lbs....slip.....not really intending to reach the second goal I set for myself. Gets old after a while and I get angry with myself, so I'm determined to GET IT DONE DURING the holiday season. No more excuses! Hope you all find the will power to set your goal....be a little tougher on yourself....and GO FOR IT, TOO! I love you, my Sparkly friends and want you to fly along with me....... XXXOOO MaryAnn

I do my best to stay under 20 carbs per day also. Sometimes, like the weekend, I do add more carbs but not to make that a habit. See my cape? I'm flying too!

Personally I like the carb cycling approach - a few days of minimal/no starches, and a day with starch. Helps keep the glycogen stores replenished, and keeps Teh Dubm at bay ;)

But way to go!

Hi! Way to go! Keep up the good work - it is well worth it. I am on week 18 now and am still loving it! I've been pretty steady (and slow) on my losses and that is what you want. Plus I'm not hungry! I'm eating delicious filling food, lots of veggies and am still heading toward my healthy weight range. Best of luck on your journey! emoticon

You go girl!!! You are almost at the top of Mount Everest!!! WooHoo!!! I am at the base and finally got all my climbing equipment, read and raring to go. Wait a minute...where did my Sherpa go??? Argh - he ran off with your carb foods and is going on strike!!! Fine, I'll just follow the trail that you have already blazed. Hey throw me down a rope when I get real close okay?

Meanwhile best of luck to you in these last couple pounds. Hmm...that's probably how I got all these extra pounds; yup, it was the carbs and the "pound" bread.

Remind me not to post when I am brain dead because that's when all my friends say I get really punny.

Luv ya ~ Maya ~ Aloha

    Mary Ann-
I am thinking about giving your plan a try. I have never went low carb, and always thought that anyone who did must be crazy, but after being on Spark for a while, I realize that everyone has to do what works for them. I have HORRIBLE cravings/urges, and then I binge eat like crazy. I have read in a few places that sometimes these cravings are brought on by EXCESS carbs, and that by eliminating a lot of that stuff, can help eliminate the cravings/ loss of control.
Anyways, stop by and give me some pointers if you get a chance! And good luck at reaching your goals-- you are already so damn fine, I can't imagine you seeing a problem, but I guess that is your perogative!! LOL

    For those who have asked...
Good morning,
I do get a headache, too, when I get rid of the bad carbs such as white flour and sugar.....Especially the latter. Just by the change of diet, the omissions, will give me a headache. It soon disappears after about a week after withdrawal and I feel tremendous after that. At the same time, I eliminate most caffeine by allowing myself either one cup of coffee a day. I get off artificial sweeteners as much as possible. I just don't add the packets. I do eat sugarfree chocolate pudding later down the road which is sweetened with Splenda. Please keep in mind that I only do the under 20 for two weeks to get myself under control. Mind games I play with myself work. Such as....When I only allow myself fish, chicken, tuna, sardines, some red meat, mostly egg whites (occasionally a yolk), pickled okra, romaine lettuce leaves, pepperiacini peppers, pork skins, and acai green tea, I begin to look forward to and crave green veggies such as broccoli and brussel sprouts instead of sugar and bread! I will add veggies. a moderate amount of cheese and about 15 raw almonds to my diet soon....after the two weeks are up. I fix tilapia in a little unsalted butter with Emeril's seasoning and lemon, but usually use olive oil spray for fixing eggs, etc. This is mostly of what my under 20 carbs consist of. I do have an extended palate and love to eat, so I will be creative and keep my carbs under 60 until reaching my goal weight. Once that is attained, I maintain by staying under 130. This plus 5 or 6 days on the elliptical and dancing on the weekends seem to keep me very fit. I have no high blood pressure and any health problems at all, so this plan seems to have worked for me for many years. Each individual is different and many people have health issues, so they must consider that. Also, when you are raising and feeding a family, you must consider that also. It is easier for me now that there is just my husband and I at home.
Wishing you all the success in the world in reaching your goals. You have to find what works for you. This is IT for me! My recipe for looking and feeling my best!!! XXOO MaryAnn

I am with you, and know you are a tough lady when you set your mind to it.
I am really trying to get back on track with my eating routine and have made a deliberate attempt this week. Day 4 is on the way...
I am tempted to go low carb....but it has been so hard to get on a good routine so I am just cooking and serving healthy, well rounded, and "calculated" meals.

How are you keeping carbs below 20? I would like to know the secret...if you can share.

I tend to get a headache if I keep carbs too low. do you have any problems?

Well...you do look great, and I know when the goal amount is low its easier to slide (for me anyway)

TIME FOR A TWEAK! TWEAK! TWEAK!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Every time I get to my goal....I seem to sabotage it by thinking I can eat a little more of really what I want. I will tell you that although low carbing makes most of my cravings go away, it doesn't completely EVER GO AWAY! There are pitfalls that I must admit to and one of the biggest is cooking for company. Since I have cooked fun favorites for each and every one of my family and friends for many years, they feel deprived when they visit and it's not here. Okay....so that's fine, except the problem is that I eat it, too. That's all part of the fun of preparing it! I put on music, dance....bop around the kitchen tasting and licking till my heart's content. I must say, it's content most of the time!!! hehe. The trouble with almost getting to my goal is that these "fun times" seem to escalate till I'm out of control before you know it. The good thing is that, since I've found Spark and posting my food has become habit, I can get myself under control in a hurry. So.....I'm limiting my carbs to under 20 for two weeks. It seems this extreme measure will make me so happy when I start allowing 60-100 again. This is where I am most comfortable.....my mind, body and soul is in it to win it! Yesterday was day 1 and my carb count was 11. Wish me luck...I love it...My stomach is now feeling normal again. The sugar fog is beginning to lift. I am also off coffee and creamer (which always makes me want more coffee). This is going to be a changing day.....I had gained three lbs the past couple of weeks and I'm not getting on the scale till Friday. Double time on the elliptical should put a smile on my face by then. Have a wonderful day, my Sparklers, and .......NEVER SAY DIE! WE WILL WIN THIS BATTLE! XXOO MARYANN
PS I AM GOING TO GET OUT AND GET SOME SUN. IT'S GORGEOUS HERE AND THE LEAVES HAVE MOSTLY ALL FALLEN.... I NEED THE VITAMIN D AND IT MAKES ME HAPPY. I am feeling sorry for the turkeys today.........................boohoo

What an intimidating goal from the carb craver here! I have to find a way to increase my protein. Have been sorely lacking the past few days. Lost 2 pounds during the recent illness and the belly finally felt right again. (not as righteously right as YOURS, but right within me. emoticon)

I don't know how she did it....THIS IS HARD! I will tell you this.....When I eat a lot of carbs, the cravings are almost OVERPOWERING!     Wow ... 20 grams of carbs !! I'm working on a reduced carb plan but nothing remotely close to that. But then again there are quite a few carbs in bananas so what's a primate to do ! With all that company you telling me there wasn't dancing galore to burn it off? That doesn't sound like a normal night with MaryAnn !! I guess maybe you Yinged when you should have Yanged, but seems you will be getting things back in balance again real soon so it is all good!

Btw I have established an underground railroad for American turkeys to flee to Canada. Our Thanksgiving is over so that are safe here. Erika would feed them in all in our backyard much like your turkey refugees. Loved that new photo you posted with the mom and babies.

DARK SCARY NIGHT!

Monday, October 26, 2009

Sometimes I just can't help myself.

Dark Night

It was a dark and stormy night!
(pay attention!)

Bob Hill and his new wife Betty were vacationing in Europe, as it happens, they were near Transylvania. They were driving in a rental car along a rather deserted highway. It was late and raining very hard. Bob could barely see the road in front of the car. Suddenly the car skids out of control! Bob attempts to control the car, but to no avail! The car swerves and smashes into a tree.

Moments later, Bob shakes his head to clear the fog. Dazed, he looks over at the passenger seat and sees his wife unconscious, with her head bleeding! Despite the rain and unfamiliar countryside, Bob knows he has to get her medical assistance.
Bob carefully picks his wife up and begins trudging down the road. After a short while, he sees a light. He heads towards the light, which is coming from a large, old house. He approaches the door and knocks.
A minute passes. A small, hunched man opens the door. Bob immediately blurts, "Hello, my name is Bob Hill, and this is my wife, Betty. We've been in a terrible accident, and my wife has been seriously hurt. Can I please use your phone?"

"I'm sorry," replied the hunchback, "but we don't have a phone. My master is a doctor; come in and I will get him!"

Bob brings his wife in.
An older man comes down the stairs. "I'm afraid my assistant may have misled you. I am not a medical doctor; I am a scientist. However, it is many miles to the nearest clinic, and I have had a basic medical training. I will see what I can do. Igor, bring them down to the laboratory."

With that, Igor picks up Betty and carries her downstairs, with Bob following closely. Igor places Betty on a table in the lab. Bob collapses from exhaustion and his own injuries, so Igor places Bob on an adjoining table.

After a brief examination, Igor's master looks worried. "Things are serious, Igor. Prepare a transfusion." Igor and his master work feverishly, but to no avail. Bob and Betty Hill are no more.

The Hills' deaths upset Igor's master greatly. Wearily, he climbs the steps to his conservatory, which houses his grand piano. For it is here that he has always found solace He begins to play, and a stirring, almost haunting melody fills the house.

Meanwhile, Igor is still in the lab tidying up. His eyes catch movement, and he notices the fingers on Betty's hand twitch, keeping time to the haunting piano music. Stunned, he watches as Bob's arm begins to rise, marking the beat! He is further amazed as Betty and Bob both sit up straight! Unable to contain himself, he dashes up the stairs to the conservatory. He bursts in and shouts to his master:

"Master, Master! The Hills are alive with the sound of music!"

Happy Halloween

(I am soooooo sorry, but I just had to do it!! It's free and from a demented friend on the Internet!)
