In addition to the wonderful support of my SparkFriends, I've enrolled in the Getting on Track weight loss program at the Duke Center for Living. Our first meeting was tonight - we weighed in, had our height and waistline measured, then had introductions, a lecture, and a healthy dinner. Next week we will begin with exercise before the weekly lecture and dinner.
I'd been toying with the idea of going out to the Biggest Loser ranch (there are two in the US) and realized "I live in Durham! Home of some of the most respected weight loss programs in the world." So instead of going away, I'm trying to use the resources available locally.
We all know the bottom line is eat less, move more. I'd done really well last year training for my first half marathon. However, I got sick around the time of the event and for a couple of weeks afterward, and had not trained for a similar event this fall. That change in activity really adversely affected my weight - I did this to myself. So now is time to take back control.
I'm setting some high goals for myself for the last 3 months of this year, and if I reach them and see progress, I feel confident I can reach my goal weight in 2012.
Wish me luck!
