share your motivational quote with me...

Saturday, August 20, 2011

The mirror is not kind emoticon I look very "round." So in addition to walking, running, elliptical, strength training and proper nutrition, I need your help - share your favorite motivational quote with me so I have something to focus on these next two months until the homecoming banquet, and then until I reach goal and maintain the weight loss!
THANKS!!! emoticon

The challenge is in the moment, the time is always now

Keep your head in the game

Stay alive, stay in the moment

Don't let yesterday use up too much of today

Every day I am on the verge of making slight changes that would make all the difference in my life

If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the answer

If you wait, all that happens is that you are older

I know this doesn't sound on the surface like a weight loss motivational quote, but for me, as an anxiety-triggered eater, it has been a life-safer to get me off my duff and taking ACTION!

break some family traditions...

Monday, August 15, 2011

It's OK to make new traditions, especially when old habits don't bring the healthy results we are striving for.
My mother loves to cook. She is great at baking cakes. She uses whole milk.
(I drink skim.)
My uncle's fiancee' loves to cook and entertain. They wanted to take the family to breakfast at the local cafeteria AND to dinner at the Carrabas' Italian restaurant...all in one day!
Our family reunnion photos are usually around a table of food or a buffet. Birthdays and holidays are celebrated with old favorite dishes, something for everyone (rather than trying new, lower calorie dishes).
So for the past two weeks, I've had to tread carefully around meals, trying to survive to get back home and to "my routine."
The relatives have gone home... so time to shed the extra pounds and make plans for doing better in the future!

Well I like that you stated you treaded around instead of diving in. Also now that they are gone...freedom to eat what you want.

I know what you mean. My mother recently remarried, and we're triying to blend two families' traditions together, and I feel like I'm on egg shells when I want to step away from eating these calorie-laden, carb-heavy foods that the new family favors. If they're your family and love you, they will understand. You might even inspire them to make some changes. emoticon

I feel you my sister. I think it is the same in mst families. Now that we know better, we just have to skip some of the menu and do the right thing by eating what is good for out bodies.

You have had a real challenge! There is something about family getting together and having lots of good food. I am guilty, too, as I prepare favorite dishes and bake favorite goodies. But I have cut back on the more fattening things and modified many recipes. Yesterday I made my favorite banana bread but used half Splenda and too much whole wheat flour. Not as good as usual, but we are still enjoying it.
Maybe your healthier way of eating and cooking will eventually rub off on those you love.

I agree, it's hard when you are dealing with family members that are set in their ways and don't see the problem with how things have always been done - the whole, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" mentality. I still have problems every time we go 'back home' and are around our older family members out there. However, I am very lucky that my husband happens to be even more interested in health & fitness than I am, so he's VERY open to trying new recipes and creating new traditions!
