Getting back to Onederland where I belong...

Monday, August 08, 2011

Which was it Alice had to choose to be smaller instead of bigger - the "Drink me" or the "eat me" selection? If only it were that simple to get the scale to cooperate. Instead, it's one day at a time, one good decision at a time.

I hadn't blogged in a while because I was having a little pity party over something I did and didn't have control over - when I joined SP last July, I had the goal of completing my first half marathon. emoticon
I got down to a BMI of under 30 and was feeling pretty good.

However, with a bad cold that lasted 3 weeks around the time of the half marathon, and some other changes to my routine, I have since put on 25 lbs and had a hard time getting them to come back off. I was really discouraged!
But what's the alternative? To give up? Not in my vocabulary! ! !
The future will come, and I may as well keep on course to improve, not to fool myself into thinking this is where I have to be, because I INTEND to get rid of the excess and come to that "happy weight" where I can do the things I want to do, pain free (hopefully) and not feel deprived in order to maintain.

So with my regular Monday weigh in, the scale is back to Onederland today and there's "nothing to it but to do it..." Keep moving onward toward goal...

The next event to shoot for is homecoming in Chapel Hill when one of my dearest friends will be getting an alumni award. Got to get ready to wear something sexy. So got to keep moving and make good nutritious choices.

One decision at a time...
Persistence leads to results!

Good job getting back to onederland.
The pity party doesn't do anyone any good, but we all have them. Why doesn't anyone come? lol

Blog for points - East Coast Invitational track meet

Monday, July 25, 2011

I've been fortunate to work with the Russel Blount ECI track meet for several years now, primarily helping with the throwing events (javelin, discus, shot put). Friday, Saturday and Sunday competitions were in the 100 degree heat, but I survived and was ever so thankful for air conditioning afterward.
It is always inspiring to see the young athletes compete. Many should be offered college scholarships if they choose to stick with the sport.
Teams came from as far away as Bermuda and Mexico (got to practice a little of my high school Spanish).
Some kids are going on to Nationals in Kansas or New Orleans.

The Deathly Hallows Part 2

Saturday, July 16, 2011

for those who have read the books and followed the films, it's sort of sad to see this day come, the "end" of an era.
I went to the movie today, and 2D or 3D, it is a spectacle. The adaptive changes didn't take away from the story line, and in the end LOVE wins - Snape's love for Lily Evans Potter being a major factor from the opening scenes at Hogwarts.
I was most impressed with the Gringott's scenes. (Wonder what it was like to see the original Wizard of Oz in theaters?)
There's still nothing like reading the books, though...
And the real life story of JK Rowlings is a testament to the imagination...
anything is possible.

Loved it. I have been reading the books since I was 13. I'm 22 now. Almost a full decade of these wonderful books. I was excited to see the final part on the big screen, and yet sad to know that there was no more coming after it. Still, there's always the books, and I can watch the films a million times. And of course I can always pay tribute to Ms. Rowling and her creation through more tattoos. :-P

We went to see it yesterday in 2D first. My daughter and I met my Sister and Brother in law in another town to see it. I LOVED IT!! There was one point where both my Sister and I started crying and after that the tears came easily. I can't wait to see it again in 3D.

My DH and I saw the end last night, loved it. I have been closely following Harry for many, many years. Harry is the same age as my youngest child so the end is bitter sweet in many ways.

I can do more

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Today was a fairly quiet day. Mindfulness meditation is regularly held at lunch on Wednesdays and then the members of Duke Integrative Medicine often bring lunch and visit. There are plans for a beach retreat in November (yea!) The dietician held a workshop later, and I promised to try cooking quinoa (normally I buy a combination with brown rice that can be quickly microwaved, so this will be a first).
By this time, I was ready to complete the task for the second leg of the Amazing Race challenge - 294 steps for the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I checked into the Pit Stop.
Then it was off to tai chi class. We tried the entire form today - I haven't learned the whole thing yet.
Finally, a visit to a friend in the hospital .
Last, dinner and some mindless TV - The Espy Awards.
I'm trying to earn the last couple of points for the next 100 level of my SparkPoints by writing this blog.

Sleep well and let's make Thursday one to remember! emoticon
I need to get back to the gym for strength training and make progress on my 5K rookie running program - I'm behind schedule.
