June goals

Wednesday, June 01, 2011

This month I am setting goals that are "easy" to hit, so I can add a string of "victories" to my list and stay motivated.
emoticon Exercise at least 21 days this month.
emoticon Weight train at least 10 days this month (twice a week).
emoticon Sleep at least 6 hours a day (aiming for earlier bedtimes)
emoticon Lose 5 pounds (of fat, no excuses)
emoticon Make more than 50% of meals at home.
emoticon Take a cooking class, try new healthy recipes.
emoticon Aim to hit my nutrition tracker goals at least 10 days & take the feedback on all other days seriously.
emoticon No dessert unless I have exercised that day.

Otherwise I will continue all the usual streaks: water, running training program, tai chi, decluttering, meditating, journaling, and Sparking!
emoticon Here's to a great month of June!

28 years later...

Saturday, May 28, 2011

Today would have been my 28th wedding anniversary. I was a tiny size when I got married, having lived several months in California and being super active, eating healthy vegetables and never going to fast food joints. I was running and lifting weights regularly. Fond memories...
Today I am heavier than I have ever been, but on the positive side have accomplished things this past year that I never even imagined (like half marathons). So I remind myself every day, start where you are and make the most of this moment.
Still aiming to lose the pounds, tone the muscles, and get back into single digit sized clothes this year.
Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!

Keep working at it, you'll be there before you know it! I am wanting to be in the single digits too, I am so close. Depending on the brand I can wear single digits. Keep visualizing it!

I'm so glad you have a good attitude and you aren't all negative because you weigh more now than you did then! I can't fathom doing a half marathon yet, so you've really got ME beat! Keep sparking, and you'll be in those single digits before you can say "Jack Robinson", as my momma used to say!

SparkStreaks help me stay on the right path

Watch your thoughts, for they lead to words.
Watch your words, for they lead to actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

First we make our habits, then our habits make us. Charles C. Noble

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going. Jim Rohn

Good habits, once established are just as hard to break as are bad habits. Robert Pulller

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. Aristotle

When the scale doesn't show my progress, I still follow the plan.
Stay active, eat wisely within my calorie range, gain inspiration from my SparkFriends, keep learning, keep going. If I DO the work, the results will follow and speak for themselves. I am so grateful to understand the power of SparkStreaks. It keeps me from giving up when the scale doesn't cooperate. And I feel better, too!

Hope you are off to a great week of SUCCESS!!! emoticon

Day of Mindfulness

Saturday, May 21, 2011

As part of my class at Duke Integrative Medicine, we spent the day in silence (9am-4pm), meditation, and yoga practice, with some time for mindful eating at lunch and mindful walking meditation during the afternoon. It was a beautiful day and the space we occupied had skylights that were pleasant. It was quite peaceful. Some people were alumni of the course who have been returning for years. I am not sure how it will end up affecting me, but I now realize I can live without the radio on during the day and how wonderful it can be to get outside and experience all the things that are happening under our noses.
Hope you had a beautiful, peaceful day as well!

That sounds so great :) It's amazing how many implications the word "mindful" has...as I was reading your blog it kept coming up and I kept thinking, how nice it would be to just be mindful of what I eat/do? Sounds like something I'd like to explore :) Glad you had a great day, and thanks for this blog!

Mindfulness is simple, but not necessarily easy, especially in our frenetic Western society! The day has already had an important impact on you if you've learned that you don't need the radio on all day! emoticon

I had a peaceful day. Did some yard work, went for a run, sat in the late afternoon sun. It was lovely.

I pretty much stopped watching tv a while back and hate when someone in the house turns it on.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your day.

Light bulb moment...

Friday, May 20, 2011

emoticon OK, OK, I have finally realized this truth:
The answers are not in my scale emoticon
They are in my running shoes emoticon
They are in my tai chi classes emoticon
They are in the foods I add to the grocery list and the ones I leave in the store emoticon
They are in getting adequate sleep at night (and no late night snacking) emoticon
They are in having a vision of myself - active, fit, healthy, and happy! emoticon
The answers to the life I want are in the doing, not the hoping...
A little progress every day... emoticon
A smaller waistline as a reward emoticon emoticon

Time to get a move on! emoticon emoticon emoticon
