Just saying how I feel

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

It was not my intention last weekend when I sent out a group email wishing everyone a happy and wonderful weekend and my feeling of being grateful for SP friends. All the help and support I have received throughout the week. I did not do it with the intent to upset so may with clogged mail boxes.
In my defense mine was clogged too.
My Dh always said I had a "Mary Poppins" outlook on life. I said it was ok. Then he warned me that "No good deed goes unpunished." I stood my ground and said Nope..
I guess I finally see it now.
So with that I say I am very sorry that, I don't even know who it was that started hit reply to all intentionally or by mistake. So I am taking responsibility and apologizing to one and all for the terrible saga of so much incoming mail.
Have a wonderful night all. I will say Thank you in advance for the continued support and wish everybody here and now an awesome week and Blessed weekend.
many hugs and apologies.
Donna

Dearest Donna, Do not fret the small stuff...there are bigger problems in life than email and anyone that doesn't know how to delete needs to let one of us know and we will advise them. I am not being smart, that's just the way it is in the computer world. Sometimes people just don't pay attention and things just spiral out of control. You are always so supportive and encouraging to everyone...I can't imagine anyone getting upset about it...Delete...it's gone!! I read all the responses that came into my box and got quite a chuckle out of a couple of them, wondering if the person knew who all they sent their responses to. lol Keep those emails coming...they always lift my spirits and I get them just when I really need them. I thought you had ESP!!!
Know that I am here for you as I know you are here for me. I love you and just want the best for you. In this case, just move on and don't sweat the small stuff.
Blessings, love and hugs dear friend,
Helen

I agree with all the other posts, this is a site of support and caring for one another. It was very humble of you to apologize and that only makes you the better person for stepping up and clearing the air.

Thank you for inspiring us to be better people when it comes to the treatment of others!! emoticon

I can understand that people are busy and don't want their boxes filled up, but it's just as easy to hit the delete key... Especially if they don't know the other people who are replying to all.

Please don't fret, friend. You didn't mean any harm. I thought the email was nice when I received it, and I didn't mind all the emails. I actually read all of them even though I didn't reply. ;-)

Well sometimes people don't like to be on group emails, but I am not one of them! I believe we are here to be supportive and if you want to send me an email or add me to reply all, then that is ok with me. If I feel I should not be apart of the email chain, then I will send you a quiet email telling you so. Don't feel bad, my friend. People have the right not to want to be on group emails. It happens but we move on!
Have a blessed and wonderful day!

Gratitude

Sunday, August 23, 2009

I was just thinking of the word Gratitude today and what a wonderful gift of life that I have been given as a survivor of Breast cancer. For several years I went about my days and did not give enough thought to the gift I was given and took for granted. Then It was like an epiphany... I was given a most precious gift from God, My Second chance at Life!!! So I decided to look up some quotes that expressed Gratitude. I thought long and hard and decided in my gratitude I wanted to share these quotes.

"Thank God--every morning when you get up--that you have something to do which must be done, whether you like it or not. Being forced to work, and forced to do your best, will breed in you a hundred virtues which the idle never know."
~ Charles Kingsley ~

"No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks."
~ Unknown ~

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."
~ Marcel Proust ~

"What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity.
These are but trifles, to be sure; but, scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable."
~ Joseph Addison ~

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."
~ Melody Beattie ~

"Blessed are those that can give without remembering and receive without forgetting."
~ Author Unknown ~

"If you concentrate on finding whatever is good in every situation, you will discover that your life will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul."
~ Rabbi Harold Kushner ~

"He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has."
~ Epictetus ~

"The sun was shining in my eyes, and I could barely see
To do the necessary task that was allotted me.
Resentment of the vivid glow, I started to complain--
When all at once upon the air I heard the blindman's cane."
~ Earl Musselman ~

"There is a calmness to a life lived in Gratitude, a quiet joy."
~ Ralph H. Blum ~ ( American Author )

"You simply will not be the same person two months from now after consciously giving thanks each day for the abundance that exists in your life. And you will have set in motion an ancient spiritual law: the more you have and are grateful for, the more will be given you."
~ Sarah Ban Breathnach ~
Simple Abundance

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."
~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy ~

"A contented mind is the greatest blessing a man can enjoy in this world."
~ Joseph Addison ~

"To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven."
~ Johannes A. Gaertner ~

"To educate yourself for the feeling of gratitude means to take nothing for granted, but to always seek out and value the kind that will stand behind the action. Nothing that is done for you is a matter of course. Everything originates in a will for the good, which is directed at you. Train yourself never to put off the word or action for the expression of gratitude."
~ Albert Schweitzer ~

"Most of us, swimming against the tides of trouble the world knows nothing about, need only a bit of praise or encouragement - and we will make the goal."
~ Jerome P. Fleishman ~

"Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others."
~ Cicero ~

"Every time we remember to say "thank you", we experience nothing less than heaven on earth."
~ Sarah Ban Breathnach ~

"Gratitude is something of which none of us can give too much. For on the smiles, the thanks we give, our little gestures of appreciation, our neighbors build their philosophy of life."
~ A. J. Cronin ~

"Nothing is more honorable than a grateful heart."
~ Seneca ~

"True thanksgiving means that we need to thank God for what He has done for us, and not to tell Him what we have done for Him."
~ George R. Hendrick ~

"Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul."
~ Henry Ward Beecher ~

"Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude.
Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness.
Thankfulness may consist merely of words.
Gratitude is shown in acts."
~ David O. McKay ~

"If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough."
~ Meister Eckhardt ~

Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary
Because it means you've made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.
~ Author Unknown ~

To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee,
and not be silent. O Lord my God,
I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
Psalms 30.12

It keeps me on an even keel and throws the negatives away every day. With God in our corner, we can never go wrong. May He continue to bless you in all that you do. Terrific blog!! And more than that even....THANK YOU FOR BEING MY FRIEND!!!

It's those little things that we could fill up a notebook with right!

On My Soap Box..Just My Opinion...

Thursday, August 20, 2009

On one of my SP teams the question was Do you hate being called obese or morbidly obese?
Yes I sure do. I look in the mirror every day and see what I look like. Do I like it?/ No.. That is why I am on SP and doing the very best I can.
Someone said they had a scale that said you are obese and when they lost weight it said overweight. That criticism I can take. That I can deal with, slow progression and having it reported back to me by an inanimate object giving me support. LOL

What I hate the most is when my doctor always tried to push Gastric Bypass surgery. Every time I was there, He would bring it up. I know what I weigh and I know what I have to do.. So flat out I told him NO and being the lady that i am, said " I am refraining from going into a foul mood and telling you in no uncertain terms what I think of the idea. Please Stop Bringing it up and over and over and over.
Can't you see by the scale I am losing????? What i really wanted to say was a 2 word expletive... I will leave that to your imagination. I continued to explain to him, I am not the patient who is going to pay for unnecessary surgery. I am Not going to subject my own body to more surgery. I already feel like I have had enough. Needless to say he is no longer my doctor.
My Point to all this is.... Just
We all need to stand up for our selves and tell these people to treat us with respect. Because we are fat, chubby, obese whatever we want to call it is no reason to be disrespected.
We have feeling, cut us we bleed, we cry , we hurt, we are Human Beings . Not just a number in a file.
Many years ago they talked about the doctor's bedside manner. (I am OLD) I really believe it went out the window. I feel terrible that some doctors.. Not all have lost a lot of compassion when an overweight person walks in their office. Again this is my opinions.
When the media takes so much liberties pointing fingers and doing the blame game, that large people did this all to themselves I want to scream at them.... Yeah sometimes that is the truth, why would we be here if we are not taking responsibility for our own actions. They never really try to understand that sometimes there is underlined medical issues and physiological issues. Think before pointing fingers.
I also believe that overweight people ( no matter how much they weigh) are discriminated against and it is the last act of discrimination that has no moral or legal ramifications.

Many years ago,(late '80's early 90's) I belonged to an organization called NAAFA (National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance) and we took a bus up to Albany NY to petition hoping it would be put into the law. As you can see today we failed.
We were joined by the Flight attendants union who also felt the discrimination. You think?? Yes, they explained that they get weighed in before their flights and if they go over the weight limit they get sent home, lose pay etc.
Get this.. the best part is, we were waiting for an elevator to leave. the elevator stopped and the doors opened. We saw a bunch of people looking at us in shock horror when the doors opened. They were backing up and afraid we were going to try and get on the elevator. Some were even smirking.
Can you imagine we were in the capital and they reacted that way.
I bring this up because we all should be treated with respect now matter what size we are.
Sorry I went on a tirade but i felt it necessary today.
We are human beings and we should not be disrespected no matter what stage of health we are in, what size we are and should Not allow ourselves to be disrespected.
I guess the old fighter just came out by the original question...
We are who we are and We Must stand Proud.. We are achievers and champions.
Have an awesome day.. You are all Beautiful.

Believe in yourself.. I believe in you

Donna, you have hit the nail on the head! I so TOTALLY agree with you. Years ago I was given diet pills by my doctor and when I told her I didn't like how they made me feel, she told me to take them anyway. Thank goodness I didn't listen to her - these were ones that were taken off the market for causing heart problems. I HATE the term OBESE. It has been turned into a very ugly word. And one of the reasons I am here on SP is my wonderful doctor who told me about it.

I understand. I have had a hard time since my last doctor's visit. Not what he said but his scales. I was flustrated because they were beautiful and fancy. His nurse said "Oh I know they are off quite a bit but it is just a general measure. " If 7 pounds is a general measure we need to take a second look. The fitness scales aren't off that much, my moms aren't off that much and my new scales at home aren't either. It really let me feel let down....and with all the fluid build up it was an added blow. I am now on a fluid pill daily so at least it isnt a 9 pound gain every three days. I will not be getting on the scales today. However the food I take inside will be being measured. emoticon

I agree with you 100%, Donna... I think it is very important that our doctor's put our needs first. It may not be what is necessary or convenient for them, but the fact of the matter is that we are only given one body to make it through this life with. We have to make the most of it. If everyone stood up for themselves the way you did, the world would be a much different and healthier place!!! JMO...

Donna I have one very vivid memory that sticks in my head. When I was in elementary school all the little girls blond hair and blue eyed were making fun of my skin color. I was so upset that I got permission to go home early that day and when I got home I ran to the bathroom and got a bar of soap and Moms scrub brush and started to scrub my arms and legs to try and wash to color off. You see I am Native American Indian I am one quarter Cherokee. My Mom came into the bathroom and saw what I was doing and she sat me down and told me that "I was just as good as any body else that is in this world" I still think of that when I feel that I am being treated unfairly.
My Mom passed away when she was only forty eight years young. She was one special lady just like you.
Your special and you are just as good as any one else in this world remember that and do not let people treat you any other way.
Be proud of who you are because I sure am. Thank you for letting us share your day with you. Sandy

Thanks Donna, I have several Drs and although my thinnest doc is trying to help me lose weight, my surgeon (he's my hero) has told me not to try and lose too much weight. He thinks I'm fine the way I am. I do not have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol etc. I just am a BC Survivor and have a mechanical heart valve due to chemo and radiation and those drugs hinder our weight loss. Donna, don't get mad at them when they say it. Point out all the things that have contributed to your weight gain and let him know how he makes you feel by constantly pressuring you and that you're doing your best to drop the pounds.

Do we ever say job well done...

Do we ever say.. To Ourselves.... Job well done????

One never notices what has been done; one can only see what remains to be done.
- Marie Curie

How often we fail to appreciate what we have already accomplished. Do we ever take a few moment, to congratulate our selves on what we have accomplished today, this week, in our your lifetime? Sometimes I need to refocus on the positive things I have done. Not put them in the closet of my mind and occasionally take them out and dust them off.
Would a Baseball team hide the World Series Trophy, The Hockey Team hide The Stanley CuP??? I think Not., Ok maybe we never won anything that big. Then again there are no trophies given out for some of our own major accomplishments.
So we must give ourselves one.. Look back and say.. What did I do that I really and truly accomplished and proud of..

I know one, that everybody reading this Blog should put on top of the list..

1- I joined Sparkpeople and took control of my life!!!!
Yup that is right.. emoticon here you go.. this is for you.

There are many other things we have success in and survived. WE have at our finger tips teams that we never dreamed were out there that give us support and love that we need.

If some of you don't know it.. I am a Breast Cancer Survivor and I belong to a Team that I am
honored and Humbled to be in. There are people there who should be given the Stanley cup and World Series trophies for all they have gone through and accomplished. Some are still going through it.
You are my heroes and I love each and everyone of you. Even if you are not on my team, we all have a bond and need to applaud ourselves and all Cancer Survivors and Fight for those who have gone before us.
emoticon emoticon
Each of us have a daily struggle, financial, Health, Emotional Eating etc and feel like there is no end in sight. Remember that everyday we are getting through the day, is a day we need to pat our selves and say I made it another day.
You did it!!! Every day is a new chance to make a small dent or a Giant Hole in all the negativity that surrounds us and those we love.
WE can do it and we need to give ourselves the self support we need. Like the water we drink, food we eat the exercises we do.. for our renewed faith in a life style change. Above all, the helping hands we offer in support and the smile at a stranger, those are thing we do and should be proud of doing.
Have an awesome day. You are the Best and I applaud you!!!
This is for you...

I followed a healthy food program I developed for myself. In 1998 I lost 52lbs in 9 months and again in 2007 I ost 43lbs in 7 months. One of the main components I have in that program is to reward yourself. Give yourself something for a "job well done" It could be a treatof something that isn't on your food list or doing something you have been wanting to do. You will stick to a food plan longer if it isn't too controling (on treats for reward)

TWENTY EIGHT LINES TO MAKE YOU SMILE

1 My husband and I divorced over religious differences.. He thought he was God and I didn't..
2.. I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.
3.. Some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them.
4.. I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.
5.. Don't take life too seriously; No one gets out alive.
6. You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me
7... Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
8.. Earth is the insane asylum for the universe.
9.. I'm not a complete idiot -- Some parts are missing.
10. Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.
11. NyQuil, the stuffy, sneezy, why-the-heck-is-the-room-spinning medicine.
12.. God must love stupid people; He made so many..
13.. The gene pool could use a little chlorine..
14.. Consciousness: That annoying time between naps.
15.. Ever stop to think, and forget to start again?
16... Being 'over the hill' is much better than being under it!
17.. Wrinkled Was Not One of the Things I Wanted to Be When I Grew up.
18 . Procrastinate Now!
19.. I Have a Degree in Liberal Arts; Do You Want Fries With That?
20.. A hangover is the wrath of grapes.
21.. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a cash advance.
22. Stupidity is not a handicap. Park elsewhere!
23..They call it PMS because Mad Cow Disease was already taken.
24.. He who dies with the most toys is nonetheless DEAD.
25. A picture is worth a thousand words, but it uses up three
thousand times the memory. 26..Ham and eggs...A day's work for a chicken,a lifetime commitment for a pig.
27.. The trouble with life is there's no background music.
28.. I smile because I don't know what the heck is going on.

Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!
Life is too short and friends are too few!

I used to work for Hallmark and at the big shows, Maxine would be there with her incredible brand of humor. I love her.

You know what PMS really stands for......... Punishing Male Syndrome.....at least that's how my DH feels. He also disagree with #24 as he's working on getting the most toys and plans to take them with him. LOL

Great blog. Thanks for another great laugh.

Teresa
