SP Healthy Reflections, My Thoughts

SP article:
The dangers of people pleasing
No matter how hard you try, no matter how many hours you spend pondering and planning, and regardless of how hard you try, you absolutely cannot please everyone. It is impossible. So do yourself a favor and stop now, before you drive yourself farther toward insanity. There are many drawbacks to being a people-pleaser. A big one is that you often put yourself in a position of subservience. Sometimes you even put yourself last, which helps no one. Remember that helping yourself and doing what you feel is important should be valued. Find worth in your own opinions and viewpoint, and don't let your desire to please others compel you to keep yourself in the background. Falling short of perfection only proves that you are a normal human being.

My Response:
Amen That hit the nail on the head.
Boy SP really knows me.. That has been my trouble since I was a little girl. the peace maker people pleaser.
I remember when I was 5 my cousin hit me in the forehead with a toy iron. I went to the ER and got stitches, Back then my Mom took me to the drug store after so I could get a treat for being so good. I got a bottle of bath bubble salts(ok i am dating myself) When we got back home my cousin, who by the way is 6 months older than I am, was still there and crying.
A DUH, little me felt so bad that she was in trouble and crying.. I gave her my bath salts.
Now I think of it... I was a PP back then. very scary I might add.
Ok I have been trying to stop and I am slowly succeeding. No more giving away my bubble bath salts. I am taking a stand...
Bless you SP

Donna, I can really relate to this as I am definitely a people pleaser. I do not like discord of any type...totally opposite of my daughters. I do get caught up in doing for others that I sometimes forget me. I will have to try to put "me" first. It will be a step in the right direction.
Hugs,
Helen

I relate to what you're saying. This has been my pro. 2. But we shall overcome. We are worth taking care of ourselves. You are my hero, Sur. Sis.

Amen to that!! Good for you honey. You need to take charge and continue learning to quit being a people pleaser. I completely understand. I tend to be that way myself but I am seriously working on that issue because I can get myself into a cycle and then I end up not taking care of myself and my needs and become frustrated, exhausted and quite irritable!! That does not make for all the things it takes to be successful in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Keep up the good work!!

Peace,
Lori

Be kind to yourself

Sunday, July 26, 2009

May the world be kind to you, and may your own thoughts be gentle upon yourself.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Affirmation: Today, I will be gentle with myself.

Let today be a day to cut yourself a little slack, a day not to be overly demanding.

These are such an amazing statements. How hard are we on ourselves on a daily basis? I know I am. One positive note is that by being on teams and SP we are, i know I am relearning not only healthy lifestyle but how to treat myself. Not like days of old rewarding with food. Rewarding with kindness to our selves and recognition of how many positive steps we take on a daily basis.
Sure we stumble and fall flat on our fannies, but we are human and there are bound to be slip ups.
One day at a time and sometimes one baby step or even one moment at a time is all we need to move on.
Never forget to reach out to those who have their hands outstretched. With friends the bumpy roads seem to get smoother.
Have a great evening.
Many Heart hugs to all.

One for the Books, had to share

Saturday, July 25, 2009

I just read an article that said a British woman had to lose weight to be considered eligible to adopt a child. If that is Not discrimination what is???
Here is the link to the story. What next, You cannot get into Medical school to be a doctor or Nursing school to be a nurse because of weight.
Bless that lady she lost over 100 pounds and was able to adopt. But where does it end. We are all human beings. We all cry tears, cut us and we bleed, hurt our feelings and we are sad.

That is something and it is like saying that all the parents who are overweight aren't good parents.

Obama's new health plan will tie into having people eat right and exercise. That is wonderful until they start somehow penalizing us for being out of shape.

Catholic Charities also discriminates in this manner. We read that line in their adoption packet, and we never went back. Even if they didn't implement it, it made me angry to see such blatant discrimination when there are thousands of children waiting to be placed into loving homes.

It is truly an injustice what that lady had to endure .You should be accepted exactly as you are ...

Its so frustrating, living in our society. Half of everyone says we have to learn to love our bodies and the other half says we have to look like super models. Its awful, fat people really are the last acceptable discrimination.

words I needed to be reminded of...

Monday, July 20, 2009

Sometimes when you least expect it, somebody sends you something to give you a lift. This happened to me tonight. I wanted to pass it on so if somebody else needs a lift it is here too.

Life may no be the party we hoped for.....
but while we're here we can still dance~unknown

Life is short
Break a few rules
Forgive quickly
Kiss slowly
Laugh uncontrollably
Regret nothing that made you smile

  Hi,

I really needed to hear ( or see!) words like those tonight. I am a new member and don't quite know my way around yet, but I saw your blog and just want to let you know that it touched me. It's been a long, difficult day and the sayings helped put a new perspective on the problems.

Don't know if I am making much sense or not....thanks for sharing.
