Working those abs!

Tuesday, June 03, 2014

I got an app for those 30 day challenges - working on the abs - boy do they need working!! I just completed day three and I can really feel the muscles getting a work out. Looking forward to tomorrow's rest day, that's for sure.

Yes, the planks have really helped my back. I was worried that I was going to have problems, but now I know that I just haven't been working the stomach and back muscles like I should. Walking is wonderful, but strength stuff is necessary.

Good to hear from you, Treyone - I've missed talking to everyone, too.

I've been waking up in the morning with a stiff back - it's not because the bed is bad - just thought it was a function of age. Last Monday when I got up, I thought, well why don't you do a plank and see if that helps. Well, lo and behold, it does - I do one every morning when I get out of bed. My back hasn't been hurting at all. What a difference!

Hi, good to see you on Spark Maine again and with a helpful tip too. My back hurts too. Need to try the plank. I do that exercise sometimes but never as soon as I get out of bed.

Just Googled it and wouldn't you know, a spark exercise page popped up. Here you go:

You can do them on your forearms.

Pat, I think I've seen modified planks before but not sure where.... if I remember, I'll let you know.

Thanks for the reminder about Merilee - I just messaged a friend of mine that works at the Y to see if she knows where she might have ended up. Will let you know what I find out.

Did not do myself any favors this past week....

Sunday, February 17, 2013

I guess I was getting very discouraged that despite the added exercise, there has been no change in my weight. I didn't get on the elliptical once all week and bought a full sized bag of corn chips and finished them off in two days.

I had an appointment with my nurse practitioner on Tuesday. I had had my blood drawn on Friday. My overall cholesterol was 229 -- and this is being on meds. My LDL was 110 and my HDL was 108. Now.... anything over 60 on the HDL is great.... she said I was an overachiever on the HDL! So, my prescription for my cholesterol medicine is going from 10 mg to 5 mg. She also has put me on high blood pressure meds. The last two appointments my readings were in the range of 140/80. So, I started that med this morning. It's supposed to make me pee more often -- maybe there'll be some water weight loss as a result.

So, I am finished with my two weeks of medical appointments--- other than having a mammogram next week, I should be free and clear until May.

I've got to get back on track with the exercising and being more diligent about watching what I eat. I know I do!

Good news on the cholesterol levels and the reduction in your cholesterol medication!!! You will get back on track with the exercise - it can be hard when you are running from appt to appt to feel motivated to exercise. Keep it up-I know you can do it!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

You have a really good HDL at 108, that Elliptical is doing you a lot of good.
Do you use a BP monitor at home. I bought one and I discovered my BP was better at home than in the Drs office. Now I am watching it on my own.
I am sparking to Downton Abbey and of course it is hard to concentrate. i will catch up later it is the last episode HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm with you, it's time to get back on track....and stay there. I am starting NOW. How about you? emoticon emoticon

Good news on that cholesterol med reduction! The blood pressure med I'm on makes me pee too. I take it in the morning so I won't have to get up more than usual during the night. I had to watch how fast I get up from a chair now or how quickly I turn around because there's a tendency to get dizzy/lightheaded more easily. Hope your BP med does the trick for you!

Driveway and front walk all cleared out!

Sunday, February 10, 2013

That's a view of my house and the truck --- the walk was shoveled out by a friend of mine (woke up at 5:30 this morning to the sound of a shovel scraping the snow off my porch!) and my snow plow guy hadn't show up yet. Got everything all cleared out by early afternoon. Snow is so pretty - just wish it didn't cause so much work!

Ended up doing elliptical work as I didn't have all that much time invested in shoveling.

emoticon emoticon Thanks for the beautiful picture!! It is still snowing here - we are supposed to get round 2 around midnight - along with blowing winds. Good new, probably won't have to go to my volunteer job. Bad new, physical therapist lives ridiculously close to the hospital, so will probably be driving down there tomorrow afternoon. And, schools probably will be closed, so 3 days in a row with no walking!! emoticon

Your house is so beautiful with all the snow. You are lucky to have such nice neighbors to clear your snow.

We are having very mild weather here no rain. We don't get much snow here on the West Coast.

Glad to hear things worked out and that you didn't have to use the entire day on snow removal. And bless thoughtful neighbors! We finally have things under control here and the driveway is passable and the roof is cleared. Unfortunately the snow blower and roof rake didn't survive the demands placed on them. We'll see if the snow blower is fixable (it's really old) and will pick up a new roof rake tomorrow, just in case we need it again this winter. My shoulders are starting to stiffen up but other than that I'm not feeling much effects from today's exertions. I might feel differently about that in the morning though, lol! emoticon

Survived the storm! Just need to shovel out now...

Saturday, February 09, 2013

I thought sure I'd have racked up a slew of fitness minutes shoveling today, but the wind and snow never settled down, so I'm waiting until tomorrow to clean the walk out. So, I just finished 25 minutes on the elliptical.

We had a lot of snow and wind.... the drifts are high and the bare spots are many. So, I'll have to shovel out the two foot drift in front of the door and then the four or more foot drift at the end of the front walk. Everything else in between is bare. Strange wind patterns cause strange drifting! I'm not sure how my plow guy is ever going to reach my truck! There's a solid mass of snow there, but to the left of the truck, it's bare ground. Who knows when I'll get to drive!
