Angry Birds

Monday, August 13, 2012

I don't know what that game's about, but that's our family. I'm still an emotional hot mess. I'm tired of hearing DH's voice wane on about himself and his problems. I'm tired of Dd's anger at me!

I have fought and worked my way into this and I just don't throw in the towel that easily. I have fought for everything in my life, why shouldn't I? Perseverance usually pays off. Why is this so hard?

I'm tired.
(Lots edited out, sorry).

I've lost 100 lbs

July 15, 2012

Random before pics. I don't know how much I weighed because I didn't monitor at the time. I know I weighed around 230s-260s when pregnant. I weighed around 250s when dx w/celiac in 2006, then I gained 23 lbs and it has been a SP journey since (up and down, up up down down). But ultimately, 100 lbs is down and I've got pictures. :)

170-ville! Yippee!!!!

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

I'm flirting with 170-ville. I'm joining the group asap! Today's weight: 179.2. I thought for sure I'd gain cause last night was a restless one.

Went to the doctor for labs yesterday. I'll be going out of town for about two weeks, then the doc is going out of town for two weeks, so I won't get results til July 25! Argh! I think the gods are testing my patience (the gods know I want results that minute). Anyhew - tested:

-thyroid panel to check new Synthroid dose down from 150mcg to 125mcg.
-VAP cholesterol (they said my insurance doesn't pay that anymore - need to check as they did last time).
-hsCRP (to see if inflammation is less now that I'm lower histamine)
-homocysteine
-LEPTIN!

I ran 3.5 miles at 14' miles in 80*+ temps + humidity and jumped in the pool and did many hundreds of leg exercises. Me and the algae. :P The water was cool and soothing. I'd been fasting for the labs so had three egg yolks (the personal trainer is concerned about my cholesterol as he tells me how he has their kid drink 1% milk, sometimes 2% .... oy). But by the time I got to shopping for groceries I bought another Kozy Shack tapioca and rice pudding AND a med. size bag o'chips and about ate them all for dinner (OY on ME!). I'd also purchased some meat, but was too tired/hot to grill. I still lost. I don't get my body. I listened to a podcast on Underground Wellness with the author of Neanderthin, who talked about acrylamides in heated things above 140* (chips, meat) and cancer. It was a good reminder, believe it or not. Earlier in the day when I got gas I ran into the station and picked up some Lays and put them back down. Progress, not perfection people. ha!

Gotta go work my core again. :)

Look at you! Shrinking by the minute!! You are doing great!

I was tired just reading about your exercise plan. The pool sounded great though.

Your personal trainer needs more oxygen to his brain. LOL. I don't personally know any children who will gag down 1% milk. Blech! His kids must be starving. I picture his tykes with kwashiorkor or marasmus - distended bellies and hollowed out cheeks, holding a glass of watered-down milk, not knowing whether to drink it or pee in it. I suggest the latter.

I ate the Lays you put back. I bought a bag of Lays Carolina BBQ chips and sucked them all down in 2 days. This does bad things to my G.I system. Don't ask. I have to quit!!

Rockstar!! You are doing so well!! I hope to see you soon, it sounds like I may not recognize you!

We were talking about you and how well informed you are on health issues. One of the ladies there has been having some health issues, severe psoriasis, that seems to be lessening since she's cut out gluten. ETU7DIANTE is her screen name. We recommended that she get in touch with you and tap into your wisdom emoticon

So glad your're doing well and making such great progress!! Safe travels emoticon

Body Composition Analysis May 2011 vs June 2012

Monday, June 25, 2012

Update on body comp. Spoiler alert: not much has happened to my body the past year. This is boring, but I'm putting it here for my reference. I lost 11 lbs, most of it fat, but not all. I lowered my BMR (not great). But at least I didn't gain. It's called changing your expections to meet your new personal happy place. :P

emoticonJune 20, 2012
Height: 5' 2.5" (measured)
Weight: 183.7 (after workout. I weighed 181 at home in the a.m. when I weigh)
Body Fat: 80 lbs
Lean Body Mass: 103.7 lbs (dry lean mass: 27.5 lbs, total body water: 76.2 lbs)
Total Body Water: Intracellular: 46.5 lbs, Extracellular: 29.7 lbs (should keep them balanced)

emoticonMuscle-Fat Control -
Need to lose 49.2 lbs of body fat and increase muscle mass by 0. Basal metabolic rate is 1385 kcal. BMR is # of cals I burn at rest. As this increases, it'll be easier to manage my weight. It can be increased by regularly exercising. This is base test as I just started strength training twice a week on top of my usual walking which has recently changed to more joggling. Walking wasn't enough. I tend to want to eat more when I exercise though - this will be interesting.

emoticonECW:TBW (Extracellular Water/Total Body Water) -
Healthy people maintain a balanced ratio between ECW:TBW of about .380. My ratio is .390. The normal range of ECW:TBW for healthy people ranges from .260-.390. In some cases malnutrition, aging, and obesity, may cause the ratio to exceed .390. Consult dr when ratio exceeds .40. Athletes or those with excess muscle tend to have a ratio of less than .360. Therefore the ratio could be a good indication of your health condition.

emoticonBMI & % Body Fat
BMI: 33 (normal 18.5-25.0)
PBF: 43.6 (normal 18.0-28.0)

emoticonSegmental Lean Development
(1st # represents Lean Body Mass. The 2nd # represents the ratio of actual lean mass to the amount you should have in terms of my body weight.) This is stating I have too much mass on my arms (which I complain about regularly, ie "thanks Mom") vs legs which need more mass. ("Normal" is 80-100%.)
Rt Arm: 5.71 lbs, 126%
Lft Arm: 5.79 lbs, 128.6%
Trunk 47.8 lbs, 98.3%
Rt Leg: 14.70 lbs, 87.9%
Lft Leg: 14.78, 88.4%

emoticonMay 25, 2011
Height: 5' 3" (not sure I actually measured or if I told them)
Weight: 194.7
Body Fat: 88.4 lbs
Lean Body Mass: 106.3 lbs (dry lean mass: 28.1 lbs, total body water: 78.2 lbs)
Total Body Water: Intracellular: 47.2 lbs, Extracellular: 31 lbs (should keep them balanced)

emoticonMuscle-Fat Control -
Need to lose 56.7 lbs of body fat and increase muscle mass by 0. Basal metabolic rate is 1411 kcal. BMR is # of cals I burn at rest. As this increases, it'll be easier to manage my weight. It can be increased by regularly exercising. (I regularly walked the past year, but that's about it.)

emoticonECW:TBW (Extracellular Water/Total Body Water) -

**********
Have been jogging almost daily WITHOUT PAIN except when I had too much histamine; yesterday it was either boiled baby yellow potatoes or the non-dairy Earth Balance original spread. I had protein for lunch and it was very satisfying. I have trouble with getting enough protein. If I'd had some prepared for dinner I probably would have not eaten watermelon at 8pm (I try to cut off eating by 7 to let my liver work it). Sugar at night I usually gain, but I lost .2 lbs. Good thing I ran 5 miles? Coulda lost and made it into 170-ville. I'm going to party when that happens! Anyway, the pain was transient, though I did wake up stiffer in the hams than usual. Most times it's soo hot by the time I get out there. Times have been 16" miles usually 3 or so miles. Yesterday I did 3 on the road, then 2 on the tread. Today I started out the gate joggling and ran a 13" mile for 48 mins. It got hot and I stopped the watch and walk/joggled the rest of the .71 miles home. I got out earlier, but not early enough. I signed up for a SP virtual run and hope to do a 10K! We'll see.

Tomorrow is strength training and I've asked the trainer to get my heart rate up. I'm skeered. :) He had me do lunges and Romanion somethings the week before last, and it took me a good three or four days before I didn't feel my legs. If you're new to my experience, this is great news, as most people may recover in two days it used to take me 5-7-10. I need to do them often. I had some serious flat-butt disease going on. In fact, if you could just switch my front with my back, I'd be happy. ROFL. Measurement-wise I have lost about 8" off my stomach and not much else.

DH's hormone cocktail is wearing off. The hormone honeymoon is over and I missed it :P. I fear we're going back to the dark side. He's getting negative again. He needs some cognitive therapy to maybe change his expectations about retirement. I go see him soon. I wish I were there for him. I miss him so.

We've had algae in the pool and I've not been in it once. Today's to hit 100 and I'm planning on swimming in a sea of chemicals to cool off. Can't wait.

Well I think that's overall great news (OK, except for lowered BMR & DH's issues - hey, it's been a long day, m'kay??)

But I was wondering where you have your body composition analyses "DONE"?

11 pounds is great, GF. You did it the hard way - not by donating an organ or having it lipoed out.

I am having to change my expectations too and make arrangements to have my jaws wired shut. LOL.

I'm trying to stop eating after eight but my stomach didn't get the memo.

You make me feel lazy. I need to conjure up some of my good excuses why I am not doing as well as you, besides the real reason........ the laziness.

Time to get the hubby back to the vet/doctor/whatever. He can have a picc line put in and a hormone drip if need be.

I would be in that pool constantly if it were me. Algae and all.
