Finding FA-Food Addicts in Recovery-A 12 Step Eating Program

Saturday, March 09, 2013

I never thought it could happen-I have stayed on FA's food program by reporting to my sponsor daily what I will eat (it has to not have flour or sugar and must be weighed) and be on the FA food plan my sponsor tells me. It does take discipline. I have lost 12 pounds the first month and 8 pounds the second month so a total of 20 pounds so far! There are many thin people in recovery at the meetings at first i wasn't sure I belonged there. But they were just like me before and they help me as I hear their stories. The program is patterned after AA, we read from the Big Book and go through their 12 Step Recovery program. It works for me and I do identify myself has a food addict-now gratefully recovering. I don't think every one needs this program-only those who have tried and tried to eat right but just haven't been successful. Before FA I tried Weight Watchers (am a life time member and paid them a lot of money), Eat to Live, Jenny Craig, Slim Fast, Seattle Sutton, Pritikin, Fireman's Diet, Eat 4 your Type-and many more. This time with the support of my sponser, the tools of the program and the help of my Higher Power it's working one day at a time. If anyone is curious you can learn more at their website. Just google Food Addicts in Recovery (not OA, not FAA). They might have a meeting in your area you could visit. As I say it's not for everyone but it is working for me. And it's free!

My real reasons to get fit and healthy and lose weight

Monday, November 05, 2012

hmm should I confess here that one reason is to make my ex sorry he left :) Also to be attractive and feel good about myself, maybe start a relationship with a man. Then there is the reality that if I don't do something soon, I could have heart or other health problems. That should be enough reasons and motivations shouldn't it. Right now and for a year I have been yo yo dieting. So I am missing something. I do have an emotional eating problem and when things go wrong (my car got stolen last week !) I want to eat and I forget about wanting to look good, be healthy, and exercise. I am going to post my reasons on the door of my refrigerator at home and have a quick reference page on my iphone to use at times of temptation. I am open to other ideas any of you have. Many thanks. Toegether we can do this.

  Hi Dory,

I think that your ideas are great! I am happily married to my second husband. So, dieting and getting healthy are excellent choices. I am so sorry to hear about you car getting stolen! Geez, what a pain in the neck that must be for you. I am forging ahead after losing 6 pounds and gaining 1 back over the weekend. One pound at a time!

Away over weekend

Monday, October 01, 2012

So I visited my daughter and fiance and drove there and back from Chicago to Pittsburgh and back again. The interstate stops had poor choices for food but I was able to get a veggie burger on whole wheat at burger king and a salad at another restaurant. Packing ahead would have helped. Now I have to face going back to work and 12 hours days four days a week. Oh well. The wedding is three weeks away and I am getting anxious as I am also an officiant. Any suggestions on how to get exercise while driving long distnaces?

Exercise-Countering my excuses

Friday, September 21, 2012

OK so my biggest excuse is time. I want to commit to 10 minutes a day at the start of the day. If I have more time fine. I can also add 10 minute watch at lunch and another ten minutes walking when I get home. I always have an excuse-too tired, too little time, just ate. I need to schedule this and put it on my calendar. Hope I can turn this in to a habit because I always feel better if I do exercise.

I promised myself I would do 10 minutes of exercise a day

Tuesday, September 04, 2012

Well ok that's not enough but I committed to it. And funny thing is that when I did just 10 minutes in the morning I had more energy all day. And now I have established a little pattern, a habit of exercising in the morning --although in the past I hated morning exercise. Now some days I go 30 minutes and I hate to confess this but also when I get home at night I feel like it too. Hmm small steps get me moving in the right direction.
