Friday 12/3 Weigh In

Friday, December 03, 2010

Hello there. So here we are again; weigh in day. It is not a good one. I gained half a pound so I am now 177 lbs. I am doing plenty of exercises (videos, walks and occasional jogs) so I think my food intake is causing the stall.

I am not a huge fan of adding salt to food, but I do like sugar. I don't keep soda in the house for myself or the kids. Water and milk are our drinks of choice. Switched from white to wheat products years ago, but I can't let of of the occasional ice cream or cookies in the house for the kids.

Using the nutritional tracker has helped me to gain insight as to where I am going astray with my food intake. I am usually below on either the protein or fat intake. Carbohydrates is the area I go over in a day or two for the week. Well I guess I am going to have to try new foods to meet my nutritional needs.

That's it for now. I'm staying positive and let's see what the scales reads next week. Oh, before I forget. I am happy and sad at the same time; I am going to participate in another 5k on the 11th. Yay!!!! The sad part of it is my husband may need to work that day so I will have to walk and push the kids in the double stroller. Oh well, the next one I should be able to run is in January, the day before the ING marathon and half marathon here in Miami.

Bye for now.

That's it, stay positive! Good job on analyzing what you're doing and figuring out what's causing the stall. Keep staying positive and have a wonderful weekend!

I have had setbacks before and it discourages me. I feel like I have done something wrong and I did, but I never find out what I did wrong. I just go on the next day and watch more carefully what I eat. I am on a losing streak now and I'm lovin' it. I hope it doesn't stop.
Keep using the food tracker, it will help you. It always helps me. Also, don't forget your water intake.

My first race in 18 years (5k Turkey Trot in Miami)

Friday, November 26, 2010

I started my Thanksgiving day by waking up at 5:30 am. This was my first race in about 18years. I made my way down to Tropical Park in Miami for the Turkey Trot. I decided to sign up for the 5k instead of my usual 10k event. A good friend of mine along with her husband and mom were also participating in the race.

I get there early to register and walk around to warm up. My original intention was to walk the 5k, but something about seeing the starting line and seeing the folks ahead of me start to run brought back memories from 18 years ago and I just put one foot in front of the other and I started to jog.

I felt good the first 2 miles and then after seeing the 2 mile marker sign, I slowed down to a walk for about a minute. I walked and jogged the last mile 3 times. I am so thankful that I walk everyday for at least one hour to three hours a day. Getting up early to alternate strength training and cardio 6 days a week was also a plus. It helped me to finish my first race after an 18 year absence in 37 minutes and 23 seconds. A 12 minute mile might not be anything to brag about, but it is for me because I was just going to do a 3.1 mile walk and I challenged myself to run for as far as my body would carry me. I could have pushed myself harder; I did not pull any muscles and I am not sore today. Woo ha!!!!!

I am going to step up some of my walks to jogs, or jog a lap and walk a lap. I am going to run two more 5ks and then move up to 10ks. Maybe January 2012 I will be ready for the ING half marathon in Miami.

The purpose of signing up for the Turkey Trot was to burn a few calories before overeating a few hours later. Holiday meals are so rich in everything but I so look forward to enjoying every bite. I cooked the turkey in a roasting bag and it was the juiciest, tastiest turkey that I have made so far. My high from the race is still going and I can't wait for the next 5k race in January to have this feeling again. I hope to be lighter and more fit by then.

Bye for now.

Friday 11/26 Weigh In

Friday, November 26, 2010

Hello Everyone so today is the weigh in day. Let's get right down to business; the scale read 176.50. I gained half a pound. Let's just say that I am not disappointed with the scale this week because I slacked a little on the goals this week.

It started on Monday when I had to go to my son's Thanksgiving Day Lunch. This is not my usual lunch (turkey, mash potatoes, dressing, cranberry sauce, one roll and a half, and at least 3 chocolate chip cookies, and wash it down with two cups of Coke). Add in a little stress from my son acting out because he did not win his race and then he started to act out by hitting his friends. I did not reach for food, but it just played over and over in my head (internal stress). He is only 5, and I know some of this is normal 5 year old frustration, but he is also autistic. My son is very smart and funny, but he is lacking in the social skills which is a common trait of autistic children. His teacher is very understanding and helpful so that is comforting to know his disability is understood. To wrap this day up, I overate and was emotionally stressed.

Tuesday I did not sleep well the night before so I did not have the energy to do my 30 minutes of strength training. I could not do my one hour + walk because I am trying to reactivate my Mary Kay business and I met with 2 wonderful ladies that spent over 2 hours updating me on things and when they get together for meetings. Just like Spark, I need the social contact to stay motivated in my Mary Kay business. The meeting was within walking distance to my house so I chose to walk there and push my 2 year old in the stroller. After the meeting I got in a 30 minute walk by walking home the long way (walking to the front gate, through my gated community back to the back gate where I live).

Wednesday was a normal day for me. I did my 30 minutes of cardio and I walked for an hour +, ate healthy, and got the proper sleep the night before. Turkey day was good and bad. I will blog later about my first Turkey Trot. I cooked Thanksgiving Dinner at my house for my family of 4. We had a 7.25 lbs. young turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes (one large potato), yams (one large yam), mac and cheese (for the kids), cranberry sauce, fresh steamed green beans, and gravy. Let's just say I overindulged. So I am not surprised the scale did not bulge and instead showed a gain.

Next week I will back to my regular routine. So let's see what the scale reads. I am stepping up my exercise from walking to jogging.

Thank you Hippie44 and PilotsGirl. I want to try to stay consistent with my weigh ins in order to meet my goals. To be honest (and I laugh as I write this) I dreaded this weigh in one week ago. Oh well, one holiday down and two more to go. Good or bad I will keep you posted.

Enjoy the weekend

Friday 11/19 Weigh In

Friday, November 19, 2010

Hello everyone this is my first blog about my weight journey to reach my goal of getting back to 145 lbs. I signed up for Spark in August 2010 but I did not start logging on regularly until my weight went from 176 to 184 in about a month span. I was adding too much fiber to my diet and I have a slow digestive system.

I am glad that I took the time to log on and see what "Sparkies" were talking about. So far I am tracking my food intake. I just took my measurements on Monday and i can't wait to remeasure in a month. I also alternate cardio and strength training every other day Monday - Saturday for half an hour. And if it is sunny out, I walk between 1 to 3 hours a day; loving the Florida weather.

So I hopped on the scale this morning and I am at my comfortable weight (176 lbs.). Now I need to step it up a bit because my body appears to be happy at this weight while I am not. I am frustrated, but not throw my hands in the air and give up frustrated. I just need to keep doing this and be patient because the extra 30 lbs. did not appear overnight. Let's see what the scale reads next week.

Bye for now,
It's a beautiful day in Doral (Miami)

    Welcome to sparks

Usually fiber does the opposite and makes you go a lot more. Protein backs you up.
