Juice Fast: It's "NO MORE"

I had to give up on my juice fast with 3 and 1/2 days left. Okay, maybe not "had". I am still beating myself up over it and feel like a failure and not to mention really emotional. It wasn't an easy decision by any means but I still did it.

My husband is being VERY supportive and he knows this fast meant the world to me. He is making some good points: "My body benefited from the fast, even for the 10+ days that I did, I was able to "jump start" my body, give it a cleanse and also give it the nutrients it deserved. That break is something that my body needed and it was necessary." I just hope some day soon, I can take them and really embrace them.

It was 6 o'clock on Day 11 (went all day, basically) that my body and mind, just had enough. I wasn't properly doing the juice fast anymore, as it came down to a mere 22oz of juice and 100's of ounces of water, which was starving my body. As much as I knew that, I still continued to do nothing about it. My body was starting to get weak and ill, so I was doing more harm then good, at this point. I am happy that I was able to do the fast for as long as I did and the pre-juice too, but I just wish I had the strength and mindset to finish it out. Oh well, I can't go back now.

It wasn't the "holiday" cookouts or parties or "doings" going on that triggered it, as we didn't do anything special but spend time as a family. I went through a cook-out party the week I was on my pre-fast diet and didn't even stumbled during that. I wished I could eat those foods at that time (not anymore), but I brought my own food, so that wouldn't be a problem. It just happened to be on a holiday that the time came.

I know its a process and will take time (ups and downs), but I am confident that I will make the right choices and move along on my journey to a "healthier" me.

My first post-fast food consisted of boiled potatoes and some grapes. My body certainly was "shocked" as I was shaking from the first few bites. My body also had some weird adjustment "pangs" later that evening. I had my first bad sleep (ugh, not again) since the fast started. I was tossing and turning all night. I hope I don't go back to those sleepless nights.

I will continue the next week with the fruits and veggies (raw and cooked) only and transition into other foods after that, NOT THE UNHEALTHY ones.

Thank you to everyone for sticking by me and giving your support along the way. I feel bad that I just couldn't muster out those last few days, but I need to "TRY" and concentrate on my next process (post-fast).

I was +.4 pounds this morning, but I am not giving up hope, as my body is adjusting and my TOM.

10 days is more than many people accomplish, or even try. I noticed you struggled more than most. Maybe it wasn't the right time for you to fast. There are people here on sparks, who did a long fast, and the next time around they only kept it up a few days (3 or 4). Clearly, they have the willpower to do 30+ days, but the second time just wasn't a good time for them to juice fast.
And 10 days is exactly what they recommend for rebooting your system, so you're definitely going to enjoy many benefits.
From what I read, stay raw as long as you can (at least a few days), so your system doesn't give you much trouble.
And if you come across some great raw recipe, please do share.

Ugh, I am wanting this fast to be done, like NOW! I know I could stop anytime but I really want to hold out for the 14 days, so I know that I can do it. But, I don't know that I am doing it for all the right reasons. I am still in a battle with my mind right now.

I know I am not going back to junk and unhealthy items, but I am really needing the taste of food. My juice fast is turning more and more into a liquid fast, as opposed to juice, as I am getting fed up with the taste and process of making juice every day, three times a day. I am primarily drinking water only.

I am hoping things go a bit better for the remainder of the week. I am getting REALLY tired and irritable, which is probably in part from my TOM (what a bad time to come) and from not getting enough nutrients.

I just don't know what to say. It's an emotional battle with my heart and mind right now.

    Good for you - already done with day 10. Only 4 more to go.
I have to tell you - the hardest time of juice fast was by far during my TOM! It was awful, I wanted to quit. Quit the juice fast, quit the weight loss, just quit!! But I got through it, and so will YOU! emoticon
Let's be honest, this is NOT a quick fix. This is a jump start at the most. This is resetting your taste buds, rebooting your system, allowing your system to take a break, giving your system a whole lot of nutrients from veggies, opportunity to realize the difference between hunger and desire, etc.
Oh,and you were so right - it's the cucumber in the juices that I hate. So now I no longer use it, but have a bunch of it in the fridge. emoticon
Hang in there, only 4 more day!! emoticon emoticon
BTW - I make one juice per day and then drink it. I would not want to juice 3x per day, no way.

    Even though it seems like a hassle right now, and probably unappealing, try to drink more than just water. Your body will try to hoard what nutrients it has left if it thinks you're starving yourself. Most likely why you're very tired and irritable -- you're not getting the nutrients you need to function properly.

Not having a juicer or anything, I don't know, but is there a way for you to do more than one meal's juice at a time? It seems the hassle of juicing itself is a problem for you, too, not simply the taste. If you do two meals' worth and refrigerate one to shake up for later, does that compromise the nutritional value in some way?

Just a few more days, if you're determined to stick it out and do all 14, so juice it up and plug your nose if you have to! lol

Juice Fast: Day 9

Today was a day that just didn't seem right. I only got in 23oz of juice and 88oz of water. I just didn't "feel" myself today. A bit under the weather. It could be that my TOM is coming tomorrow and my body is warning me. LOL!

So, overall, I was tired and just "blah".

I also noticed that my vision is becoming more impaired. I have been noticing my vision starting to go, even before the fast, however, the last couple days, its seems to be getting worse. I am not sure if its the fast or what. Has anyone else experienced this on a juice fast? I am going to be scheduling my eye appt. soon, with a new eye doctor, since we moved and also I want a 2nd option, since the other doctor couldn't find anything, but something is not right. I was telling my husband that maybe I need bi-focials now. YIKES!! But, anything to help my vision, I would be happy.

Only a few short days and I can "dive" into some fruits and veggies in its real form. YAY!! I am also planning on doing a 5K on Saturday morning. I hope I feel better by then, rid my stomach of this nauseous feeling and have the energy to complete it. I already bought some juice to bring with, so I can power up after the race, since I won't be able to join in the finish line festivities, besides the water, of course.

Well....onto Day 10!!

Day 8 was much better than Day 7. I am getting a day closer at a time and learning things along the way. :) If the only thing I were to gain from this was knowledge, that would make me happy too, but I am reaping more benefits than that, which is a PLUS!!

I don't know if I mentioned this before, but my husband and I are participating in a weight loss challenge through his work, which is an 8 week challenge and pays monetary rewards for the top 3 biggest loser teams (out of 1700+ teams, ranging from 1-5ppl per team). This challenge started 6/18 and runs through 8/17.

My husband has participated in the last 3 challenges they have had and has come in the "money" twice. This challenge, they allowed the spouses to be included as well and be able to earn the $$ also. It's a way to promote better health and I am sure to decrease the amount of doctor visits. The only disadvantage of this challenge, this time, is that it is based on the "honesty-code" (normally you had "weigh-ins on location, but this time its all recorded online), so I am not sure how fair it will be. For me it's not about the money (although that would help for a much needed bed...LOL) but I want to be healthier and be able to have another child.

We are on separate teams, so more of a challenge/competition (and hey, we may both win money...LOL). I am currently beating him, but I know he can drop the pounds, if and when he wants (or I hope not, in a way...LOL). Anyways, since I started the challenge (which happens to coincide with my pre-juice fast venture), I have lost 16 pounds, which is 6.78% weight loss. I am currently in 7th place, but I know individuals still have to weigh-in and there is NO set weigh-ins either (they don't have to weigh-in weekly or daily, but merely at the end to qualify), so I won't be jumping for joy until the final weigh-ins are posted in August. But, for now, I can celebrate that I am doing GREAT in the bunch of 1700+ teams, so far. Show me SUCCESS, MONEY and ultimate VICTORY over my husband. :D

    It's a great idea that the employer is offering such a program, however, there should be more accountability for people. Doing the "honor-code" isn't the right thing to do. Money is the root of all evil, in a sense and in this economy, anyone would do anything for it, including lie. There is already a team that has lost 88 pounds in 2 weeks. I am not sure how that happened, but I am hoping it was an error. They first had posted 118 pound lost and since then has corrected it by 30 pounds, so who knows. I am sure the company is MORE for publicity and keeping insurance premiums down, then actually monitoring the actual challenge. I am sure they are going to get LOTS of feedback at the end of this challenge.

However, I am doing what I have to do and not what others are doing, but its still on the back of my mind. LOL! Oh yes, beating my husband will be WONDERFUL!! Especially, since he hates when a woman says they can't lose more weight than a man (I do that often and so do people on Biggest Loser) but yet there have been woman on the show that "wax" the men.

I am looking forward to the end of the 14 days. I am counting the days. I know it doesn't sound right, but unfortunately, I just can't say I love juicing. I do love to juice, every now and then, but everyday for every meal, its just not me. I won't juice longer, but I will incorporate juice into my daily meals, just not all the time.
I am NOT getting used to juicing, however, my body is getting used to not eating so much and liking fresh foods, so that is great. I know after that my body will tell me and probably reject any food that is not intended for it.

    I think it's a great idea what your dh's employer is doing. Way to get everybody motivated and moving - everybody wins.
The fact that you're going to beat your husband is just icing on the cake. Or cinnamon on the juice, or something emoticon
Are you still looking forward to day 14 to end the fast, or are you considering keeping it up a little longer possibly? Are you getting used to it?

    Because of where I work and the weather conditions I work in a juice fast cannot be part of my weightloss.....I admire those that can do it and stick to it, though.

    Wow! I'm glad you've gotten past the halfway point!

I like the idea of the weight loss challenge set up by your husband's employer. Wouldn't it be nice if more employers would offer that? Just think of how much healthier so many more people would be.

It sounds like -- other than boredom of "only" juice itself -- your body is adjusting and doing well. I'm happy to hear it.

Juice Fast: Day 7 - HALF WAY

WOOHOO!!! I made it to the HALF WAY POINT!!

For a girl that was scared to tell people about my venture to a juice fast and healthier me, has passed the half way point. There have been more up days than down, but those down days (times) really play with my mind. I continue to push through it and NO CHEATING for this girl, but I just wish I could feel positive about this juice fast ALL THE TIME.

As I have revealed to another Sparkie "I know I shouldn't be thinking of this as a "chore" or "job" but to be honest it feels like it, sometimes". I am taking benefits away from it, which is a PLUS, but I want to see it more positively, but I am not sure that will happen before I finish in 7 more days.

It's more than the weight loss (although, that certainly is a good feeling and to help me into my healthier lifestyle after the fast). I know now when my body is "hungry" as opposed to "craving", which is GREAT! I will be able to know when to pass up on food and when to actually eat. I also know to incorporate water and juice, which will help limit the need and desire for other foods.

    Good for you. I always figured the weight loss was a side effect of cleaning out your body. A positive side effect, but still a side effect.

Detoxing is tough sometimes, but just imagine the toxins you are removing. And like you said, you're learning when you're really hungry.

    eight pounds in a week is amazing
what create a great interest in juicing too. I'd love to lose that fast/easily.
I've been juicing twice a day for about two weeks but always wind up eating solid food in the late afternoon. Raw...but not juicing.
