Almost six years on SP!

I was just thinking how fast time passes. Since I joined SparkPeople I've lost over 35 pounds, and maintained it for over five years. The most helpful aspect of this website was and is the food tracker, which I have used almost every day. The timely articles and reading about other people's experiences are also very motivating. February Resolutions

I make general resolutions in January, but I like waiting until February to define & refine my goals for the year. In 2012, I want to reduce the amount of "stuff" in my home and increase the amount of exercise I do weekly. I will continue to track my food on SparkPeople, as that has worked well in helping me lose weight and maintain the loss for over three years.

Fall Housecleaning

Every year about this time, when the weather becomes cooler, I vow to make this the season I get rid of the clutter in my house. This clutter includes clothes, books, mementos, and household appliances. However, I never fully realize the accomplishment of this goal, because I'm a saver. The things I find hard to discard are the "it could be useful," "someone gave it to me," and especially "I may read this book again one day." While I have no problem getting rid of obvious trash, like outdated magazines or newspapers or broken items--I seem to get stuck at the same place every year. Maybe this year will be different???

    my rule of thumb is--if u haven't used it in a year--out it goes...it's nice to donate coats & sweaters this time of year--so many are cold & without

    I find that asking someone to come help you out who you know is the type to not hold on to clutter is a huge help!! I did this with a friend and helped her get rid of entire BAGS of clothes one time! Good luck though, I've been wanting to do the same fall cleaning myself!

Memorial Day is almost here!

If I plan to go to a barbeque or other "food-based" event, I want to be sure I eat something first so that I don't go overboard on high calorie food. Since the beginning of this year I've been eating on the high side of my maintenance calories, as I saw this morning looking at my reports for 2011. My weight has gone up about 4 pounds, so I will be back to 1200-1300 calories for the next month.

Thoughts on the Holidays

I love Christmas! Also New Year's Day, Easter, just about any chance to celebrate and get together with family and friends. There are so many people that come to dread holidays, especially Christmas, because of the stress of cooking, gift-buying, decorating--all the myriad of things we think we MUST do to make it a joyous occasion. I hope everyone focuses on the most important part of these holidays...the people we love. Also, we should not confine our acts of kindness and expressions of caring to a few days of the year. May the Spirit of Christmas pervade your entire New Year!

    Well said. Also, it's always nice to include someone who does not have a social group into yours. There are lots of reasons people stress at the holidays.
