Saturday, June 26, 2010

This morning I woke up and dressed for sabbath services at our synagogue. This morning was our Cantor's last official Shabbat Service. We also had a baby naming. So on one spectrum was a new child starting out on her life career and on the other spectrum was a man finishing his career as a Cantor.

There was a luncheon hosted by the grandparents for all invited guests and congregational family. It was very lovely. I had a wonderful lunch of 1/2 plain bagel with lox cream cheese, fresh fruit, herring , salad and coffee.

I came home and was very tired, jet lag? so I did some e-mails and then laid down for a nap and boy did I sleep. All of a sudden we got a call that our friends were downstairs waiting in the car for us to come down to go to the Sunset theatre. Boy did we scramble.

We saw "Leading Lady", an English farce. It was very cute and entertaining.

We went out for dinner and B and the new baby met us at the restaurant so we got to see the baby. B did not go to the theatre but her husband did join us. She is breast feeding and needed to be home in case the baby woke up hungry. They only have one bottle feeding a day and that is at night before calling it an evening and retiring for the night. The baby was so cute. He is up to 13 pounds already so they must be doing everything right.

We came home and I am answering e-mails. My back is killing me since I got home. I think it is because I walked alot in the airport, sat alot in airplanes and carried my large package which I didn't expect to do. I took two ib-prufin, but that isn't doing it for me. I think I will go to bed shortly.

I came home from visiting my sister yesterday afternoon after being stuck in Detroit because of severe weather conditions. In fact a tornado did touch down in Selina Michigan which is a rural town near Detroit. Fortunately there weren't any injuries because it was a rural community.

Anyway I did get a hotel room because I wasn't going to spend 24 hours in the airport. At least I got a good nights sleep. I didn't have any luggage so Delta gave me an emergency kit. It contained a tee shirt to sleep in, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb and an apology for the inconvenience.

On a bright note, my visit with my sister was fantastic. We really had a great time just sistering. We stayed in a bed and breakfast in Asheville N.C. and then toured Asheville the next day. We listed some places we want to visit next year when I come down.

We mined for gems, traveled though the smoky mountains, played bingo with the people who live in her North Carolina Village. I bingo'ed twice and took home 6 dollars. Big money................ We played Mahj Jong with her friends at the public library. I mahj'ed about 6 times but no money was exchanged. We traveled to Crodelia Georgia to visit my sister's friend and drove to Helen and
Silva Georgia. We had a block party with my sister's neighbors and had a pancake breakfast with the church where she is a member. I attended a tai chee
class which my sister teaches to about 15 women in the community.

All in all it was a wonderful visit and if the trip back was the only frustrating part of the whole 9 days, so be it. I handled it without stress and eating my way through the airport.

My food intake was wonderful. I did not gain any weight and pretty much stayed on program. I wasn't able to track and exercise as I do at home, but with all the walking and climbing we did I was not surprised that I didn't gain weight.

We went grocery shopping and I bought things I normally have in the house to eat and taught my sister some recipes that I make that are low cal.

It definitely was a good week and look forward to having another week with her next year.

I love Asheville! It sounds like you had a wonderful time. Kudos to you for managing to stay on track even on vacation! I've always wanted to take a Tai Chi class! I recently got a video to do it at home.

Sorry to hear about your airport troubles. But at least you got a free t-shirt? They always think that fixes everything!

Today was a great day for our synagogue. We had our annual meeting and I came away from that meeting knowing that we stopped the hemoragging and now our synagogue is on its way to recovery. The atmosphere of the membership was a positive one, our new female Rabbi gave us direction and the new VP BP who will be the next President in 2012 is a wonderful leader. He has all the qualities I look for in being our next President.

After the meeting two other women from the synagogue Sisterhood went shopping at Sam's Club for food for the installation on Tuesday night. We were fantastic. I had a list and we made decisions all could live with and we were out of there within an hour.

This afternoon after I got home we just relaxed and I will finish my book "Rules of Vengeance". Its a great espionage mystery and I am anxious to get back to it.

I watched the Tonys tonite and was very disappointed in the show. To tell you the truth it was quite boring. The productions on broadway did not grab me and I would not make a trip to NYC to see anything or put it on my notes to see it when it comes to Chicago. BORING.....................

thank you for sending me a "hug" goodie this afternoon. We can all always use a hug!

I did not watch the Tony's myself, I actually began to find all of the awards shows very boring hears ago.

I love theater, but don't get to New York to see the shows, so I have no emotional investment to begin with.

Thanks again, have a great day tomorrow!

This morning I went to services at our synagogue and it was very special because B & I V celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They are such a cute couple and it was such a joy to help them celebrate this special day.

B met I when he was 16 years old in Madison Wisconsin at a dance that his cousin's friends took him to. He was living with his uncle during his High School days as he was originally from New York City. He went to the University of Wisconsin Madison until the war broke out and he flew with the Air Force during the height of the war. He told me out of the 18 sets of air craft only 6 remained. He fought against the Abbey guys which he said were the Luftwasser force which was trained in Abbeyville which is north of Paris France. in order for them to be in this elite fight group they had to have 5 kills, so BV was really in the most dangerous battles of his life. Jimmy Stewart, the movie star was part of his flight team. As was Walter Matthau who was a photographer.

Anyway after the war 1945 he came back and married Izzy and he and she celebrated this special union today at synagogue. The luncheon was beautiful and we were all happy to be there.

This afternoon I started a new book. Rules of Vengeance which is a great espionage plot. I am almost 1/2 way though.

I came back to my e-mails and much to my surprise I was selected by another team Rooting for Ruby, to be their Ruby Lite of the week. I was so humbled by this honor and still can't believe it. I have received so much warm words of congratulations as well as many many spark goodies. I am still amazed at the warm reception from all my team-mates on Rooting for Ruby. It sure is giving me warm wonderful fuzzies.

Friday, June 11, 2010

Today, Friday, was a very quiet day.

I did the laundry because Tuesday I am leaving for North Carolina to visit my sister. I will bring out the suitcase tomorrow and start putting in clothes for my vacation with my dear sweet sister.

The afternoon I spent reading a new book. "The Silent Sea" by Clive Cussler. On 12/7/41, 5 brothers exploring a shaft on an island off the coast of Washington State make an extraordinary discovery, but a tragic accident suspends further investigation. In the present, Juan Cabrillo and his Oregon team, chasing the remnants of a crashed satellite in the Argentine jungle, stumble upon a shocking revelation. His search to untangle the mystery leads them, first, to that island and its secret, and then much farther back, to an ancient Chinese expedition and a curse that seems to have survived for more than 500 years. This is a great read and I am half way through the book. I will read it til I am done hopefully tonite.

We went out for dinner. I had a Greek Salad with lots of anchovies and now I will return to my book and let my dh watch the Brewers game.

I, too, love to read and it sounds like you're doing what I do; if I find a book that is that hard to put down, I find myself just reading till I finish it, however long that takes! Your book sounds really interesting and I've written the name down to look it up later on Amazon. I have a Kindle and just can't seem to get enough books to read anymore! Have a great Saturday!!
