Today I was a docent at the Jewish Museum of Milwaukee. A large bus group came and there were 6 docents who where posted at various locations in the museum to explain that artifact. I was stationed at the lobby and explain the Chagall tapestry "The Prophet Jeremiah".
There were some women who were weavers that by chance came by and imparted some weaving knowledge to me. The way the warp of the piece lies and the way it was probably constructed. There is so much to learn if you are open to it.

The rest of the day was spent doing errands, appointments and finally home to catch up on e-mails and make dinner. I am making a salad, broiled salmon, sweet potato and pumpkin mousse.

Tomorrow is weigh in at WW and I know I will be below goal so I should be safe.

I know so little about that faith that it is embarrassing since I took Theology in college. All I remember is the Jewish boy that lived right across the street from our high school.
Every day his mother would bring him a nice hot lunch and he was humiliated. But we all loved it! We trades baloney sandwiches for hot chicken soup or a potato knish
(spelling?) and Lord have mercy - her egg . creams make my mouth water just thinking about them. I also love Challah (spelling) and stilll use that woman's recipe for chicken soup.

I can't believe that I slept til 10:45 a.m. this morning. I did go to bed at 12:30 a.m. but to sleep that late, I haven't done that since I was a kid. Well I can't say I didn't catch up on my beauty sleep. lol lol

This afternoon my dh and I decided to go to a movie since as an anniversary gift we got a gift certificate to the Marcus theatre. We saw "Up in the Air" with George Clooney. It was adorable. I can't believe how few people there were in the theatre. I took my bottle of flavored water and the ushers didn't ask me or confront me about it. I am drinking 3 large containers a day now and that seems to help me lose some more weight.

I got on the scale today and I am under my goal weight for Weight Watchers. My friend told me that I look slimmer. I thought she was just being nice, but my dh told me yes, I am losing inches and now I see weight. That's okay since my BMI is still in the fat range.

Tonite I took my fast paced walk through the hallway of our condo listening to Musical broadway show tunes. You can't walk slow with any of those melodies.

So now I am finished with the computer tonite, got all my SP points and now will read "Spark" Chapter 7 and watch a little TV. I taped The Biggest Loser so I'll watch that.

My Success Story

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

I joined SparkPeople Dec, 2008 and reached my goal, losing a total of 72 pound on Dec 10, 2009.

I recently went vacationing to Costa Rica with my darling husband and 22 other family members from all over the US to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. My peer group (seniors) participated in the River Cruise and other non exerting excursions. Although I did participate in those excursions I also signed up for a 14 tree platform to tree platform trip, a mountain waterslide, trip to the wellness spa by horseback. Our horses climbed up, down, through mountain passes and through rivers which took about one hour.

At the Wellness spa we relaxed by covering ourselves in warm, volcanic mud and then dipped in one of the natural, volcanic warmed, mineral pools.

The point is: I was the matriarch of the group. I am 71 years old the other family members were 45, 23, 10 and 8. I kept pace with the young ones and on the way home they slept in the van for our 1-1/2 hour trip home. I was wide awake in conversation with Gustavo, our guide. . What is wrong with that picture?

I believe I owe my energy to my 72 pound weight loss and exercise program which I had implemented when I joined SP.

In addition, and to my benefit is that my pre-diabetes is no longer an issue because I keep it under control, without medication, with diet and exercise.

I want to say thank you SP friends for all your unending support and encouragement during my lifestyle change. My plan is to give back to everyone on Sparkpeople who seek the same results I have been able to experience.

Monday, January 11, 2010

This morning I made phone calls that needed to be made.

I left the house at about 11:45 a.m and I went to a local synagogue's gift shop to give them some jewelry, on consignment that my sister in NC had created. My cousin E, who is a member of that synagogue suggested that they get in touch with my sister and see if they wanted to sell her creations and asked for some to see how her jewelry sold in their shop. It was a Mahj Jong 8 dot tile pendant with Swaroski crystal's and matching earrings. I think it will be a good seller, since many women in our area play Mahj Jong.

I had time to go to Penzy's spices and pick up some fennel and my free sample of cajun spice and since I was so close to Bayshore Shopping Center I stopped in at Chico's after getting their catalogue this morning. I loved a steel blue jacket with a ruffled edge. I tried it on and it was made for me. Size 2, and naturally it needed a drop dead "make a statement" necklace. So of course I bought that too. It really is a stunning outfit.

I then went to play Mahj Jong at EG home which was just a few blocks from Bayshore. I was the first one there. We had a great game. I won $4.00. I was hot. I could have started needing 6-8 tiles and pulled in jokers one after another. I should have bought a lottery ticket...........hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I made Grape Lovers Chicken tonite for dinner and it wasn't as good as I remembered it to be when I made it the last time. I think the chicken was a little tough and so I'll continue to cook it tomorrow. If it hasn't improved I'll toss that recipe. Its not like I have 100 recipes or more for chicken.

Tonite, after dinner I went to sit in on the rehearsal for the Milwaukee Jewish Community Chorale of which I am one of the Presidents. JW couldn't attend because she has the flu. Its really going around. So I went to wish everyone a Happy New Year on behalf of the Board of Directors. They really sound great and are practicing very hard for a performance for the McDowell club, which is a club composed of musicans of all statas. So they better be good, because the audience will know if they aren't..

I have been doing e-mails and Spark Points most the the evening while my dh dozed and then awoke to watch the Bucks basketball game. Now I will settle in and read "Spark" Chapter 6 to finish off the evening.

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Today felt wonderful, I woke up feeling stronger and feeling great.

I knew I had to get all the laundry done because it was overwhelming the laundry hamper in our bedroom. When there isn't any more room for dirty clothes, its time.

Most of the day I spent on the computer answering e-mail and being on sparkpeople.

This afternoon I decided, enough of this, get out and walk. So I tuned into my I-pod and walked for 30 minutes in the hallway of our condo, listening to the soundtrack of the broadway show, "Beauty and the Beast".

My plan of action for dinner tonite was to make Grape Lovers chicken, but since my dh has to pick up a couple and their children at the airport at 7:00 p.m. when they return to Milwaukee from San Francisco, that meant that we would eat at 8:00 p.m. So I decided to postpone that meal to tomorrow and took out some frozen chili and beans that I had frozen previously. I ate because I was hungry and I will warm it up for him when he gets home. He has been eating all afternoon watching the Packers play Arizona.

Doesn't look good for the Pack. Sorry .........................for..............
........that.................

I plan to read "Spark" during the evening. Love that book. Chris and I are seeing eye to eye on every page. What he describes and tells us to do are just what has made my 72 pound weight-loss a reality.

In fact I got so inspired that I wrote on several teams "My Success Story" and have received so many messages of how I have inspired them. I only wanted to share my joy in being able to do the things my "young" mind wants to do and having my "old" body cooperate. I now understand that I just passed the "spark" as Chris says he did when he developed the website.

So now I'll get back to the book......................................
