Sorry..been time to get my Spark back!!

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Hi..where has the time gone?? This has been such a ..and stressful few weeks!! I think I'll start with the stressors...

-2 weeks of granddaughters swim lessons
-littlest granddaughter had just spent 3 weeks with the other discipline and negative about everything
-she also had a really bad heat rash on her butt with oozing open sores..which added to her crankiness :(
-extreme heat for almost everyday they were here...
-then there was the wedding cake to ice while they were here
-oldest granddaughter had to go camping with her Dad for one night and he's usually very unreliable ..the night before we had to take the girls to their great grandparent's for the weekend after lessons and travel on to Saskatoon for the wedding and bring the cake..they had never stayed with the greatgrandparents before....
-wedding was really fun but we shared a hotel room with my sister and brother-in-law..who was sooo negative, too
-the wedding was fabulous and the cake was great but I had to much to eat and way too much to drink...then son and latest girlfriend came to the hotel after and we went to a bar for more drinks and stayed up waay too late..great to see him tho!
-back home for the last week of lessons and one of the junior teachers threw my 10 year old granddaughter off the high diving board because she was scared!! I am soo mad and the worst part is she is a friend's daughter but a bully
..granddaughter is fine but when her mother got back from holidays she got really mad at the girl..yes..kinda stressful.....
-well add in a few more stressors like hubby doesn't like it when I'm not available to help him all the time..
-now there's lots of jobs to catch up on and I feel sick and run down...

...and I have some Sparkin' to catch up with...I have been trying to log on daily and keep up with the starfish challenge..but I haven't been doing much in the way of weight loss :( Time to get back on track with my eating....the exercise has been the usual..especially during the lessons with 2 hours or more of public swimming....

Now to add even more stress as I've been feeling sad about my youngest daughter it's her birthday soon and she is estranged from us ..which really hurts...I still can't do anything to help if she's not willing to let us even talk to her...

Well enough about the on to getting back to work...

..I've missed you all and need some inspiration to get back on a positive keel!! I know this is the best place to be....

..I'm so behind I haven't even listed my August goals..tho they are in my head and need to be typed in a blog and that will make me feel more on top of stuff...

Well, that's enough for now and I'll do a separate blog...
Thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin' and enjoy the rest of your summer!

My goodness - what a month you've had. Don't apologize for not blogging. Thinking about your younger daughter's birthday, my son's birthday was August 16th. I hope that she decides to contact you sometime soon. It must be horrible not to be in touch.

Take care of yourself; remember, together emoticon

Summers are always full of unknown timetables, OTHER people's time tables ... too much on every time table ...

You've had a lot of drama this summer:) Bet you're looking forward to the Fall, when things usually return to more routine patterns.

I'm sorry to hear about your estrangement from your youngest daughter. Hugs, and a hope she grows past it.

Grrrr re the diving board thing: that would make me ballistic!! Is there a person in authority to whom a complaint can be lodged? Absolutely unacceptable (I taught swimming for years myself).

Sorry about the estranged daughter: can't be helped, but saddening for sure.

All best to you and welcome back.

Hey Donna - Glad that you are back, figured you were just caught up with so much work on the ranch but YIKES you really did have a heavy stress load. Always great to have the grandkids but sometimes a relief when they go home emoticon

I know what you mean about your estranged daughter because that is my case too. Hasn't spoken to me in over 2 years now. I have just tried to move on and deal with it in my own way.

Take care and hope all is going well on the ranch.

Hugs to you emoticon

Good to hear from you! I know how busy you must be. I'm overwhelmed here with 4 staying, & the weather has been hot. To top it off I've been battling ants in the house also. Everything is a challenge for sure. I do enjoy the kids though, just not used to the no privacy.
How are the cow's doing??

What a busy summer...

Thursday, July 26, 2012

Just a quick blog ..I'm so busy this week haven't had much free time..almost time for the granddaughters to come for swim lessons..they are coming Sunday and lessons start monday..

We were gone to Moose Jaw for the weekend and had a relaxing get away..stayed at a nice hotel with a pool and hot tub and enjoyed some down time..

Now it's been busy..busy..busy...

Hope to have a bit of free time this weekend..then I can catch up on the blogs..

Still so hot and dry here..we need rain to save our crops and pastures..been watering the garden almost daily and I sure wish I didn't plant so many flowers in pots this and learn..

We've been busy with the cattle in the home and community pastures..we had a round up last Thursday..a real scorcher of a day..the pasture truck has one of those thermometers in the mirror and it was 119 F..yikes..too hot to spend hours out on the quad..I'm tough was an unoffical temp as the local news had a lower temp for that day... get to bed as we are having another round up tomorrow...

Take care and keep on Sparkin' and thanks for dropping by..

Hope you're all having the best summer ever!!

emoticonLove Donna!

woohoo..just 5 months til Christmas...(a cooling thought..haha)

Hot and dry here too - but it's not as serious for us as it is for you. I've noticed the quantity and quality of produce at farmers' markets is down and prices are up... doesn't sound good for prices this fall.

I hope you get some rain, and it's good that you were able to get away for a week-end. I often think of people on farms, and how much harder they work than a lot of the rest of us, so please know that I appreciate all the work you do.

Enjoy your grand-daughters,

I can symapathize with you when it comes to trying to keep the garden alive and the heat and no rain. Yesterday and today have back to what is normal temp wise \. I did some weeding and getting some other little outside jobs done. The grapes are coming along fine. When I built the grape arbor, I did not put any kind of support across the top so the vines could form a roof. I have been thinking about it for about a week or so now. Today we took a piece of plastic fencing and placed it across the top. Now it almost too late for the year, but I have it in place and next year we will see the results.
Have bit been doing much as the heat saps me and I get worn out pretty easily.
Enjoy the swimming lessons
God bless

I've lived in drought conditions too - if you hand wash your dishes, try using a dishpan - save the rinse water (let sit overnight to cool) and use that to water your flowers and veg garden. I did that for years.

Really doing bad at blogging....need to catch up..

Sunday, July 15, 2012

Hi..I can't believe I've missed so many days of blogging...tomorrow is the last day of the Calgary Stampede...then maybe things will get back to normal around here.

We've been having an awful heat wave and things are very crispy here :) been trying to water my garden and keep it alive..hubby is struggling with the hay as the cutting is going fine but the window to bale is very small..a couple hours in the morning..after the dew and before the scorching heat..the crops and pastures are also suffering and all my lawn grass is dead...

I have been spending hours and hours on the quads in the pastures checking the herds while hubby has been haying..we went up to Weyburn to get our truck from the repair shop..been too hot to do my 5k was really helping move the scale...

Tonight is a little cooler and we've had a couple of showers of rain today..nothing to measure yet but we are hopeful more will come...

Things are mostly ready for the granddaughters to come for swim lessons..I've planned lots of craft and cooking camp ideas..thanks Pinterest..and made up treat bags and wrote out 20 joke of the day jokes...their room is already, too.

I'm helping put on another bridal shower the day before the girls get need to make a cake for that...the first practise wedding cake for my niece has been made and I think I'll try a couple more recipes before I decide on which one I'll make...

This week is tracking fiber on the 5% starfish summer challenge..I did really great with fiber today..had all bran for breakfast and that helps..didn't lose any weight this past here's to a better week...

The heat and being so busy has left me with less energy than hopefully I'll soon get my energy back..

Thanks for dropping by and keep on sparkin'

Love Donna emoticon

Hope you are all enjoying your summer..summertime and the living is easy....

Bad at blogging? I'm really bad at blogging, & it's going to get even harder for me to get free time. But it's worth it to help family @ spend time with the grand kids .
Hope your having a great summer! emoticon

You are always so busy... I'm amazed that you find time to Spark at all! Farmers around here are suffering because we've had so little rain. Strawberry season was very short and prices were high, so I didn't do any jam this year, and I think it's going to be a very bad year for corn and vegetables.

I talked to my daughter in Amsterdam today, and they have had lots of rain. She had a Canada Day party for about 20 people and was able to use her roof terrace for the first couple of hours, then had to go inside.

Living in a town or city and not knowing anyone who farms, we don't think that much about the weather, but your blogs really help me understand a little bit more about the challenges you face.

Thanks for your blogs; I always find them interesting.

Calgary Stampede...

Saturday, July 07, 2012

Hi..hubby wanted to go to the Calgary Stampede this's the 100th Anniversry..then after we got back from Vegas he didn't want to be in all the crowds after all...then he changed his mind again and wanted to I looked for tickets and it's all sold out so we are just watching it on's on for 10 days. Today was the parade and day one of the rodeo and the chuckwagon races.

So between work today we watched all of it on TV...we started the day by checking the community pasture west herd and found a neighbor's bull had jumped in and broke some fence :(....we also went to town for mail and fuel, I went to the well for drinking water and hubby baled some hay.....

So we really got lots done today..I also weeded and watered in the garden and mowed some grass, too...

While the stampede was on I did some preps for when the granddaughters come fore the swim lessons...just a few more weeks...the lessons start on July will be here before I know it!!

This week hasn't been very good for my tracking on the 5% challenge and tomorrow is weigh-in....I missed a few days of tracking my food and the days I did track most of them I was over..not by much but just week should be better since it's tracking sleep and I can do that..well my sleep..haha..

Being gone for a couple meals, especially the inlaws Anniversary buffet :( hasn't helped.... get to bed..thanks for dropping by ..keep on Sparkin'

emoticon Love Donna

Have a great weekend..maybe I'll get a little hammock time.....
