HI..so glad it's the weekend!

Today we did some much put off jobs...we tagged and treated the last few calves and turned them out with the other pairs..then we vaccinated the yearling replacement heifers..so they will be ready to put out to pasture tomorrow..and save a few chores.

The corrals are still very wet and I was walking through a deep spot and lost one of my rubber boots..I was barefoot in the boot so I stepped barefoot right into the slop!! too funny..then I had no choice but to put my boot back on, so now it's dirty on the inside and the .outside..haha

When we got the cattle work all finished we went to town for the mail and a few groceries...I bought a new magazine and also got 2 more in the mail..I really have fun reading magazines :) my escape..that and the internet :)

This evening I dug up some sunflowers that seeded themselves and were growing everywhere in the garden..so I can rototill up my patch and get the garden in the next week or so.. Then I'll just transplant them into a row..haha :)

After I did that I brought in the 9 cows left to calve and then mowed grass for about an hour..then tried to catch up on some house jobs..washed a bunch of dishes and dyed my hair.

Tomorrow I have the pot luck food to get ready for the 50th Anniversary. It's for supper and it's near Estevan so hubby will still have time to get some jobs done besides chores.

Well, I'm going to try to get to bed early tonight so I should go for now...thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

I thought this was a fun article in one of my magazines...

Color yourself happier and healthier!

Green protects your eyesight!
Purple boosts brainpower!
Yellow brightens your mood!
Red improves your love life!
Orange makes you younger!

(these colors are for to look at/wear/or eat..)

Another rainy day..

Friday, May 11, 2012

Hi..it was just overcast this morning but rained all afternoon :(

I quadded the cow/calf pairs morning and evening, we sorted some cattle, then I mowed grass for a couple of hours and did a bit of gardening...and a bit of house work..

The day went by fast..

Something I find really fun is riding the quad...the open prairie in spring is awesome....green grass, wild flowers...

..I read somewhere..anyone can love the mountains, but it takes heart to love the prairie :)

I visited with my neighbor a bit on the phone, and my oldest daughter on-line... and my mother-in-law phoned about her brother's 50th Anniversary on Saturday....

..like I said the day went by fast...

Time for the midnight check and off to bed..thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

We had a nice little rain today. I didnt get everything mowed that I wanted, but it was a nice little shower and will do the garden good.

Northern lights: fabulous!! can only remember seeing those a couple of times in my life.

That community pasture situation sounds so very upsetting for your husband and lots of other people too. Not fair: and the uncertainty just makes it more miserable.

Road trip...

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

Hi..after chores this morning we went up to Weyburn for a small road trip... we took the pasture truck as hubby needed some pasture supplies and the darn thing is still not working right!! But we did get there and home okay...

We got most of the errands done except hubby needed a gate for the corral and he phoned first for it too and when he got there they were all the wrong size :( Seems no one takes pride in their job anymore..very sad...

We picked up a flowering plant and a gift certificate for the mother-in-law and went over for coffee..she wasn't home so we had coffee with father-in-law and left the gifts for Mother's day :) We may see them at the 50th Anniversary on Sat but they are known for not showing up for stuff!!.....

While picking up the plant I picked out some orange roses for hubby to give me for Mother's day..haha :)

I ran into a close friend who had spent the last 5 or 6 months in California so it was great to catch up :) I always run into someone I know :)

We had a quick supper of stir fry and then watched the hockey game...now I'm catching up on some online stuff then I'm off to call my sister..
I have only 1 1/2 hours until the midnight cow check so it'll have to be a "short call" at least for us...

Thanks for dropping by...keep on Sparkin'

Hope you are all making May FUN!!! emoticon

Mmm, the orange roses sound very nice: hope that they have a nice scent too (I always choose my flowers by their smell!!)

My mother has been gone for 15 years -- but caught myself thinking today that I should be checking out the Mother's Day cards at the drugstore!!

Busy as a beaver building a new dam aren't you. I like the idea of orange roses for Mothers Day. I have a card to send to my daughter and we sent one to Jeff's mom yesterday. If I get out and around I may pick some flowers for the grandkids to give to Paulina. I never know if she is going to get something from them or not.
God bless you

Another calf today..

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Hi..I think we have 123 calves now..and around 10 left to calve..we sorted out more open or late cows from the "to calve " pen...

I helped quad the cow/calf pairs this morning and check for sick ones..there were a couple looking sick yesterday..dropped ears and runny eyes..all this wet and cold weather is hard on the little babies...

I helped do some fencing in the community pasture with hubby, then along to town for mail and fuel..we got the cattle cheque so tomorrow we'll be going up to Weyburn with it...and get a few things we need from there...

After town we did some more fencing and had a late supper and then did some more chores..kind of a broken record around here..I watched some hockey and did some Sparkin' too..just going to finish up this blog, put the clean sheets on the bed, head out for the midnight check and then off to bed....

I got a funny e-mail a couple of days ago from one of my best friends..they have cattle in the federal government community pastures and what hubby works for parttime..also the government cuts all the pastures are closing with in 6 years.. the government is also cutting lots of other jobs and departments...

...anyway..this is the joke...

The government today announced that it is changing it's emblem from a beaver to a condom because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance
.....a condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation,
protects a bunch of dicks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed...it just doesn't get more accurate than that!

It probably describes most governments, not just Canada..haha!

Well..best get to the sheets..thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

Congrats on the new calf! Sounds like you're having a banner year. Hope they all stay well and healthy for you.
I love the joke! It is tooo funny. I just need to change the beaver to an eagle and it works for our government. Works to well actually. I may even put it on my FB page. Hopefully friends don't get too offended.
Take care!
