Another calf today..

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Hi..I think we have 123 calves now..and around 10 left to calve..we sorted out more open or late cows from the "to calve " pen...

I helped quad the cow/calf pairs this morning and check for sick ones..there were a couple looking sick yesterday..dropped ears and runny eyes..all this wet and cold weather is hard on the little babies...

I helped do some fencing in the community pasture with hubby, then along to town for mail and fuel..we got the cattle cheque so tomorrow we'll be going up to Weyburn with it...and get a few things we need from there...

After town we did some more fencing and had a late supper and then did some more chores..kind of a broken record around here..I watched some hockey and did some Sparkin' too..just going to finish up this blog, put the clean sheets on the bed, head out for the midnight check and then off to bed....

I got a funny e-mail a couple of days ago from one of my best friends..they have cattle in the federal government community pastures and what hubby works for parttime..also the government cuts all the pastures are closing with in 6 years.. the government is also cutting lots of other jobs and departments...

...anyway..this is the joke...

The government today announced that it is changing it's emblem from a beaver to a condom because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance
.....a condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation,
protects a bunch of dicks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being just doesn't get more accurate than that!

It probably describes most governments, not just Canada..haha! get to the sheets..thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

Congrats on the new calf! Sounds like you're having a banner year. Hope they all stay well and healthy for you.
I love the joke! It is tooo funny. I just need to change the beaver to an eagle and it works for our government. Works to well actually. I may even put it on my FB page. Hopefully friends don't get too offended.
Take care!

Had lots of FUN today...

Monday, May 07, 2012

Hi..the shower was lots of fun...I was helping a friend of mine put it on and we had a blast :)

The bride was very happy that we put on the shower for her..that's always nice to be appreciated :)

Her sister had a skit/fashion show arranged for us..we just had to find people to act in it..about 10 or 11..I was one of the participants..I got to dress up like the groom..the bull rider..wore his shirt/flack vest and chaps..also had on cowboy boots, a cowboy had and a bandana..too funny...

The decorations turned out great, the cake turned out great and there were lots of people at it and the gifts and lunch were great, too.

We've been getting more rain so haven't been able to do too much extra yard work. Hoping for a nice week to dry things out a bit and then we can schedule our branding..

It feels kind of nice to have hardly anything scheduled for the next week! We will probably go to Weyburn one day..when we get our check for the yearlings to put in the Weyburn acct and also get a Mother's day gift for the mother in law. On Saturday hubby's aunt and uncle are celebrating their 50th Anniversry with a pot luck supper at one of the kids farms.

Hope we are able to get lots of the work done..fencing, oil changes..whatever.. probably no gardening but maybe I'll mud in the new trees??

Well..I'm falling asleep on the couch typing so I should get to sleep...thanks for dropping by and keep on sparkin'

Where did Friday go?...

Sunday, May 06, 2012

Hi..sorry I missed blogging was a busy, busy day..started with hubby going to Weyburn for his CPR I did some morning chores, did some house stuff..worked on shower stuff....checked the cows to calve..another one had twins....122 calves..14 left although we may sell a few more late ones...I got the old corral board ready for the write their names on it and place a large barb wire wreath on it..finished the rest of the mini barb wire wreaths for the jar candle holders..wrapped the gift...baked the cake..then made cookies to take to our neighbor who lost her daughter...

When hubby came home from town we did the night chores..I quadded the pairs and forked bull hay while hubby shredded bales for the herds..then we had a late supper and went down to the neighbor's for a visit..we brought the son (hubby's best friend) a case of beer and I had a flowering plant, garden solar light, the cookies and a sympathy card for my dear friend...the guys watched the hockey game and had some beers..I did up the dishes for them and then neighbor wanted to talk about her daughter's last days so she mostly needed a friend to listen...then we had a coffee and headed home... was the funeral in Regina...hubby did up the morning chores and we got an early start as we had dense fog all the way....They had a beautiful service and her 2 children gave the eulogy..very touching and emotional....we stayed for a quick lunch and some visiting..then stopped at a few stores and hubby grab some more to rained off and on during the way home...then it's been raining lots tonight!!

I haven't been feeling very great today..fever and chills and I thought I was going to faint in the book store...I think just too much stress and worry...I've had a headache and back ache all day :(

After the shower tomorrow I will look forward to some down time...

I talked to my daughter today since I missed her yesterday..well we chatted on line but I didn't get to "say" Happy Birthday...she had her oldest daughter go home on the bus by herself and she was there for about an hour by herself and that turned out fine..I phoned to check on her and chat and she was so fine..she actually said..."Grandma..I'm watching a show.." haha :) Glad that will kind of work's just for a few days..until a friend of hers can help...

I also called one of my sisters to wish her a Happy Anniversary!!

Now time for some Sparkin' ....the new and last thing to track on the last week of the 5% challenge is to track nutrition was quite crappy today so I had a glass of metimucial knock-off to up my fiber and be in range..I tracked 32 :) So I'll try to keep up my fiber intake...

Tomorrow morning I have a few more things to finish up for the shower..then decorate the cake..and go in to town to set up..we're having lunch in town and the shower starts at 2pm....

Well, I'm ready to sign off..hope you are all having a great weekend...I'm looking forward to the should be FUN..I'm in need of some fun right about now.
Thanks to everyone for dropping by and for your comments..keep on Sparkin'

No chores today!!

Friday, May 04, 2012

Hi..I took a complete day off of doing any chores...hubby did the morning chores and checks..his turn to look things over to make sure I wasn't missing any sick ones.

My friend that I'm putting on the shower with phoned this morning and we talked for about 2 hours..most stuff is all planned now anyway..

Hubby needed fuel in his pasture truck and since it's not working right I stayed home while he went to town in case he needed me to get him...this crappy truck sucks!! He came home in time for lunch and then I was off to Weyburn for trees and errands...

We had ordered more trees for the shelter belt and today was the day to pick them up..I got 50 more trees..then stopped by hubby's office with paperwork.. went to his warehouse for supplies..paid groceries and a few more supplies for the bridal shower on the vaccines from the vet clinic to have when we brand next week and picked up the semen testing paperwork,,,, picked up a flowering plant and a solar light for my dear neighbor who just lost her daughter....

Back home in time to make a late supper..and watch a bit of hockey and talk to son on phone, the oldest daughter on line...she's still having a bad time with no luck finding a sitter..and has to coach soccer and it was really cold and miserable. I just wish we lived closer so I could help her out..but the 4 hour drive makes it impossible..and May is one of our busiest months!! Groan..this parenting adults can be so they have adult size problems..time to quit trying to be a fixer and pray for solutions for her...

Then my other friend called to do more shower planning..she's helping but can't be there the day of the shower..

This has continued to be a high stress day..and I feel mentally, physically and emotionally drained...

I did have fun on my errrands and spent some time visiting with break at the office and the warehouse..and ran into other friends in stores too..

Hubby went fencing in the community pasture while I was away and then did the evening he's sleeping on the couch..we haven't had a calf in a few days..we are still at 120 and 15 left to calve...

Hubby has a CPR class tomorrow in Weyburn so I'm holding down the fort for another day...hope to finish up all the shower things and bake the cake..a fancy shower cake...and get our clothes ready for the funeral on Saturday...

Thanks everyone for dropping by and for your comments..I hope to have some extra time tomorrow to hopefully thank each of you for dropping by and for your encouragement..Keep on Sparkin'

I really hope things calm down for you. Although I know in the end it will all be fun and worth the extra effort you've put into everything. I just hope everyone appreciates all that you do for them. Always sounds to me like you just have the most wonderful friends & neighbors. Must be nice to live in a community that is so close knit.

So right the adult size problems. We think life we settle down and it just becomes more hectic. My dd lives about 4 hours away with my three grandsons and has no support either.

Quick blog...

Wednesday, May 02, 2012

Hi..just a quick's been a long day..being in charge of the ranch all day has been the least of my worries.

The day started on a very sad note..a phone call to tell me our closest neighbor and friend...lost her daughter to cancer last night. The mom is in her 80's and farms with her son who is my age..the daughter was around 60 and lived in Regina...leaves to morn her husband and 2 children. Her funeral will be on Sat.

All the chores and checks went fine for me..hubby had lots of truck trouble on the way home from Saskatoon..on a brighter note..I did see him on the supper news at his class!! The truck did finally get him home....

Then oldest daughter phoned with a dilemma over her babysitter..they had a major falling out and she is without a sitter for tomorrow..and so on...she lives 4 hours away...I wish I was closer....

Sometimes it feels like everything falls apart at once...

I guess everyone has days like this..not my idea of fun...

Well I'm sure tomorrow will be way better (can't get much worse!)

I'm very tired..physically and emotionally so I'm off to bed early..not going to watch any more of the 3rd overtime period in the hockey game..I don't even care.....

Thanks for dropping by my blog and page and for all your kind comments..they helped make my day a bit more fun..keep on Sparkin'

Your right. Sometimes it does seem like everything happens at once. Good & bad. It's always hard to consol someone during a time of loss. I just hope your doing ok. Take care of yourself & your health and everything else will be fine.
