emoticon Do fun things....

Well..May is my favorite month.. My birthday is on the 18th..usually lands on the long weekend here in Canada :) too's also my Sparkaversary!! Woohoo...2 years ago today!!!..other highlights are Mother's Day, oldest daughter's birthday and gardening...

...this year we have the bridal shower, hubby's Aunt and Uncle's 50th Anniversary, a wedding...

..other fun things in May are branding..pasture take ins, fencing, field work.

What fun things do you have planned for May? Hope your month is fun for you!!

Today was the semen testing and then hubby left for Saskatoon for his class... I'm in charge and holding down the far all has gone fine with night chores, I still have the midnight check to do...or maybe I'll check a bit early and get to bed early...

I did fit in some yard work and did a couple hours of lawn mowing..the grass is getting shaggy here...

I had another goal concerning The spring into shape boot camp that I joined but I've decided to drop out already and find something new..the challenge consists of doing the videos daily and the internet here doesn't do video downloads very good...the 10 minute video took over 45 minutes to download and then when I went to rewatch it it still had lots of pauses and seemed like it was going to take 45 minutes again...groan...

On a happier note, on another Spark team I have a new gardening buddy and am looking forward to her knowledge and encouragement....I think learning is FUN.

Well..time to get off the computer and do something or maybe just do the check and get to bed....Thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin and make sure to have FUN....

Love Donna emoticon emoticon

I really really liked Spark guy this morning...

...I also got a few of these funnies from my sister...they were called ..
Edumicationings...but I thought they were funny so I'll share some in May's blogs ....

...We are going on a class trip to the Coca-Cola factory. I hope there's no pop quiz.

Donna, I love your blog! It made me tired though just reading all that you do! WHEW!! You're awesome! emoticon
I'm going to drop by with an asparagus recipe. I am so happy you found you like it now.
Would love to hear about your gardening! Gardening is revving up here in S Texas. But I only grow flowers and foliage plants mostly. No veggies.
Great goals for May!

Twins last night..120 calves..

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

Hi..when I finally went out to check the cows I found twins..a nice now we have 120 calves :)

I was vegging on the couch and started to watch the movie Bridesmaids..which I've been wanting to watch for awhile..well..that turned into a movie marathon, I watched Friends with Benefits next and Life as we know it after that... had been a long time since I watched a movie so I guess I was making up for lost time..the last movie was over at 1:30 then I went out to check the cows. All the while hubby slept on the couch :)

So last night I was a little sleep deprived...oh well today was another day... I helped with chores and sorted the yearlings to take to market to day..I ended up going first plan was to stay home and work but I changed my mind... the road trip sounded way more fun!! After we watched them weigh we grabbed subs for lunch..mine was a small buffalo chicken on whole wheat with lots of lettuce and tomatoes..yum yum..and an xtra large coffee..for a treat I had a small tiger tiger ice cream cone..yum yum again :)

We stopped for mail on our way through town and when we got home we checked the pairs together in the truck and then turned them out into 2 bigger fields.... then did some fencing around those fields..just a few staples was all the fence wire breaks since we hardly had an snow... this may be a good year for fencing!! We also went over to a neighbours to check out some pasture they may want to rent to us but they haven't had cows in there for years and years and the fence needs way too much work!! We had thrown in the drinking water jugs and came home around by the community well to get drinking water!!

We had a quick meal of micro left over burgers and some peas..hubby had baked potatoes with his..I had a big spinach salad..

Then I headed out on foot to put the herd that's left to calve back into the corral for the night while hubby did the night chores...

Tonight has been checking out the internet and catching up on some e-mails, and tracking, etc...on one of my Teams we were assigned garden buddies today for the month of May so I dropped by her page to say hi :)

Speaking of teams I already missed day 2 of the Spring into shape challenge so I hope to do 2 videos tomorrow....

...when hubby is the morning we'll do up the chores (he'll feed for Wed. too ) then in the afternoon the vet is coming from Weyburn to semen test our 5 bulls..then hubby is off to Saskatoon..he's staying over night at our son's and then attending the University class on Wed and then coming home Wed night. So I get to hold down the fort...

When I have more free time tomorrow night I will do my April goal recap and then post May's goals..been working on them a bit today..

Well..I better get cracking here..I washed the bedding today and the sheets are in the dryer so I should go make the throw some clothes hubby needs for his trip into the dryer....then check cows a bit early and head off to bed...Thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

Love Donna emoticon emoticon

Ohhh, twins! Girls? Boys? or one of each? Sounds like another busy day for you. I'm really surprised that you have any internet time without falling asleep. I'm ready to pass out now & it's only 4:00 in the afternoon. I'd never be able to keep up with your busy schedule at all.
I just loved that movie Life as We Know It, don't think I've seen the others yet. But romantic comedys are my favorite kind.
Enjoy your sleep!

Hi..just a quick blog before I go out to check the cows to calve at midnight..I have 10 minutes....

It rained off and on today....but is cleared off tonight....I helped with the usual chores today and then we picked up twine in 2 fields that we want to put the main herd in tomorrow...while hubby takes cattle to Assiniboia tomorrow.. I'm quite stiff and sore from all that walking and the mud really balled up on the boots..for some added weights..haha..just what I need to tone my legs!!

I've been working on a note book to keep trakck of the May stuff...I named it fittingly....a million things to do in May..haha :)

I joined the Spring boot camp and did the first workout today...I hope I can stick to it and do all the videos.....maybe it'll help jump start some more weight loss!

Well..better go check the cows..night all..thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

To paraphrase Dr. Seuss's quote: Every day is a new day -- and I take a lot of comfort and encouragement from that thought. No matter how badly we've done the day before, it's in the past, and we have a new chance to start again. One day at a time ...

Enjoy your week:)

One more calf today...

Sunday, April 29, 2012

Hi..we had another calf today so we have 118 now and 16 left to calve...

We have had more rain today but the snow has held off...and the wind has gone down too..thank goodness...

Today I didn't do too much...good to have a bit of a down day....I did carry wood to the house, quadded the main herd of pairs, and put the herd to calve away tonight...

There were more playoff hockey games to watch and some house work...

Well..good to have a bit of a relaxing weekend before our busy week starts on Monday...I need to do some book work that needs to be done by monday so that's on the plans for tomorrow..also getting to be time to do April's recap and on to May's goals..where did April go to??

Thanks for dropping by..keep on Sparkin'

118! That's alot of house pets, how are you going to every tell them apart? I guess their Mommas can do that.
So nice that your having some time to take a breather. Keep pictureing that Vegas trip on the horizon. Woo Hoo!

I agree. This seems like a lot of calves. I can't believe 750!! How big is your ranch, Donna ?

COOKINGGRANNY 4/29/2012 1:20AM

Calving time is such a busy time. My son's herd is just starting to calf and they have about 750 to deliver so that will keep them on their toes. A lot of ranchers are saying that they have a lot of cows out of calf, probably due to the flood last year. The land is still horribly wet. Hope you had good luck with your calving season.

One more calf today...

Friday, April 27, 2012

HI..I missed blogging yesterday...busy as usual!!

We did the morning chores and then hubby had a mandatory conference call to attend in Weyburn so we got the pasture truck cleaned out and ready to switch. I went along and did a bit of shopping...the pastures still don't know which ones are closing when..just that none will close this year and all will be closed in 6's bad to be in limbo..especially the managers that live in the provided yard and don't even have their own home!! At least we have our own ranch and this is just an extra job for hubby..not his main job!!

We had a quick supper in town so that is the second meal out this week so I'm thinking weigh in tomorrow won't be pretty!!

While in town I continued checking into the Las Vegas trip for June and our 35th Anniversary..and today I finished booking it so we're all set and I'm really excited!! can't wait..43 more days :) I guess it's too early to pack..haha :) Now I'm checking the internet for what"s cool to do there and where the bargain meals are...any suggestions? We also booked a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon.. WooHoo!! I found out that if we go during the week instead of the weekend we can stay one day longer for $500 less!! We've only been to Vegas once before 10 years ago for our 25th Anniversary!!

Today we have had brief rain and high, high the process of ripping the roof off one of our cattle sheds..the wind can quit anytime!! After supper I checked the pairs with the quad and going into the wind and driving rain felt like hundreds of needles poking me in the face..ouch!! Plus it was hard to see where I was going...

Well we had one more calf this morning so we have 117 calves and 17 lift to calve..unless hubby gets tired of them and sells more late ones...

We have a really busy week coming looks something like this..subject to additions or deletions...Monday..cattle to Assiniboia to market/Tuesday...semen test our bulls then hubby leaves for Saskatoon and his university class/ Wed.... me hold down the fort..him at class and then home from Saskatoon/ to Weyburn for more shelter belt trees/ Friday..hubby to Weyburn for CPR class! Yikes..then Sat is set up for bridal shower and Sunday is the shower... I think I should clone me..haha.

We..round 2 of the hockey playoffs has started tonight so I'm holding down my couch with laptop and tv....hubby..asleep on the other in the wood stove due to big time cold snap..rain may turn to snow tonight..groan.... go for now and top off my water...thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

Ha Ha Ha. . . I love that, holding down the couch! Right now I'm holding down my bed. Not in it but sitting on top. I've been out most of the day doing yard work so I'm resting. My room actually has the best view so I like to relax here while catching up on my favorite people's blogs!

Donna, just caught up on three days of your blogs. Don't where the time goes. Sure don't have much of anything completed to show how I spent it. Did you get the snow? Are the calves all still doing okay? There isn't too much new around here going on except that it is raining again. We need it so I am not bemoaning the fact. Pulled weeds this morning and I am tired from it. Also planted a couple of roots for peony bushes. emoticon
