Finally another calf today!!

Thursday, April 26, 2012

Hi..we went for several days without a calf but had a baby this we have 116...

We had a wild, hectic day...started out with helping with chores and checking herds.then during coffee break we worked on getting hubby's work computer up and running...then after lunch we went back to the farm that had the auction sale a couple days ago. We loaded a tractor onto the trailer behind the truck and hauled it over..then we loaded the drills up on the carrier we rented from the owner and I dove the truck and empty trailer home and hubby drove the tractor and the drills home...I got home first and checked the cows to calve and found the newest baby :) Then hubby phoned to say he needed hydraulic oil for his tractor so I loaded that up into a different truck and meet him part way home..then after supper we took the drill transport back to the sale site behind the truck and stopped in town for mail..then back home and night chores...

..No wonder I feel extra tired tonight..dishes are still on the cupboard..and will have to wait until tomorrow...hubby said he'd take the checks so I'm heading to bed early for the first time in 1 1/2 months to go to bed before midnight..woohoo.. it's 10:30 pm ...

..So I'll cut this short..night all..thanks for dropping by..Keep on Sparkin'

You deserve an early bedtime every month or so. Some people actually do it every night but what fun is that right?
You take care of all those little babies & especially yourself.

I cannot believe how hard you work . . . long long long days . . . and stay so upbeat and cheerful with it!

Have to say I really love the bird's eye view you give us of what it really takes to provide one element of the food chain: yikes! Doesn't just magically appear at the supermarket in 1 pound packages, ground and wrapped in cellophane??

Ahhh, and the work on a farm is never done! You should be tired; I'm glad you got to bed early. Do you name your cows, calves?

Another beautiful day...

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Hi..still no more calves yet but hubby was taking the midnight check last night and he came back in to tell me the northern lights were out so I went out to check them out..gorgeous!!

helped with the morning chores and then quadded the pairs...puttered in the house til lunch and then we went to town and checked out the seeding drills we bought at the auction...we finally got hold of the guy who bought the drill transport and he said we could rent it..that will help but still have to bring a tractor over and figure out how to load

After supper I quadded the main herd pairs and brought in the cows to calve.. hubby was changing oil in a couple tractors...then watched a bit of hockey and now I'm catching up with the computer...

I made a long phone list today for hubby and I to catch up on business calls..I made our accountant about income tax, to 2 different computer techs for hubby's new computer that's not working right...he booked in the vaccines needed for branding and some semen testing with the vet clinic...booked in some cattle at the last yearling sale of the year next Tuesday...registered for some classes in Saskatoon at the University for May 2...tried to find out if the newer pasture truck is ready for him so he can trade trucks before he goes to Saskatoon...on and on it goes....

Speaking of phone calls I should sign off here and make a couple more calls, then take the midnight check and call it a night...

Thanks for dropping by..keep on Sparking'

That is so wonderful that your able to see the northern lights. I've only seen it very well once. That was in northen Minnesota when I was just out of high school. I guess I need to go way north more often.
You reminded me I need to make some phone calls today so thanks for the reminder.

Productive Monday...

Monday, April 23, 2012

Hi..we had a busy and productive started out with chores as usual and then I took some time to work on the bridal shower decorations..making tiny barbed wire wreaths to put over jars for candle holders...

..After lunch we had our new little bull delivered..then we headed up to Weyburn for a quick trip for banking, hubby had to go to his office, did a bit of shopping and groceries (stocked up on more veggies and fruit) and then went out for supper with hubby's parents....

...Home in time to quickly put away with night chores and watch some hockey...

...Still no more calves yet..they should start again any time as quite a few look close...

Tomorrow will be another busy day :)

Oh! I love the candle wreath idea! I bet that can be made for almost any holiday. Maybe something even I could do. Sounds like another busy day, but shopping for healthy vege's & fruit is a good thing. I have a hard time keeping those items fresh & I'm always going shopping to keep fresh ones in the house.
Hope your hockey team is doing good this year. Our team (the Sharks) are already out of the running.
Well, my hubby plays soccer so I still have his team to watch.

No calves for a few days..still at 115 calves...

Sunday, April 22, 2012 was a beautiful day :) We tagged, treated and turned out pairs from the corrals behind the barn...I was wearing lined overalls and they were like a sauna suit! Maybe twice the calorie burn??

We haven't had a calf since April 19th so things have slowed down a bit here... we hadn't turned out from behind the barn due to all the bad weather so it was getting quite crowded...that's when they get sick... we had another one to treat this morning, too..that first one that we treated is doing really good now!

After lunch I quadded the cows to calve and the main herd of pairs while hubby fed bales. Then I came in and watched some more playoff hockey..that's what on tv right now, too. So I'm vegging on the couch with the laptop, hockey game and a big glass of water!!

Well, that's about been my whole day so I really was slack..the couple hours of tagging tired me out big time....Maybe I'll start on my Mailart team project...
or phone my sister I haven't talked to for awhile...

Hope you all had a great weekend and are all primed for a great new week!! Oh yeah, something else I did today was read this new inspirational quotation book one of my best friends gave me last week...very good..

Onederland Revisited....

Sunday, April 22, 2012

Hi..what a great surprise to jump on the scale for the challenge weigh in and be 199...WooHoo!! Last year I was down 25 pounds and my lowest weight was 195..I'm now approaching that's also my goal for the 5% here's hoping I'll be back to that by mid may....well on my way to be slimmer for our Anniversary trip to Las Vegas in mid June!!

This time I'm determined not to keep gaining and losing but get healthy and stay healthy!!

Helped with some morning chores and quadding the main herd after my healthy breakfast of toast and egg :) While out quadding I found more wildflowers blooming..more crocus and some bright yellow buttercups :)

After a quick lunch we went to a neighbor's farm auction sale..hubby didn't really plan to buy anything but ended up buying a 28' seed drill for seeding tame hay and other crops..great bargain for $ to get it home??? After the sale we went to town for mail and stop at the drugstore for a treat..hubby.. chocolate were having a side walk sale type of day and had free snacks and chai I had a tea and a quick visit with all these women I used to work with..good times..the whole day was full of visiting with friends..then when we got home we had 2 calls to I also visited with my closest neighbor (88 year old mentor) she was wondering if the power had been out here had been..all those blinking clocks....then son had phoned to visit so I called him back..he sounded really happy and said he has a new girlfriend :)

After supper (of grilled steak, peas, spinach salad and a baked potato for hubby) I phoned my sister for a visit, too...boy was I catching up with lots of visiting... then a few minutes ago one of my daughters called too!! She was really happy too, finally got her x boyfriend to move out..had friends over today and painted in her house..her girls were away at their Dad's..even when she told me she's been talked into coaching her 7 year old's soccer team..40 kids, no helpers and has no clue about how to play soccer!! So funny...she doesn't even know how many players on the field...could be interesting..haha!!

Well, I got lots of exercise in ..between all the cattle chores and walking at the auction sale (we also had to park in the ditch of the highway and walk in) then I walked the herd in..or walked out to put them in and hubby had already done it :)

So here I am relaxing on the games on, hubby asleep on the couch, finishing my light beer..catching up on Spark and other internet... this had been a daily habit (well not always the beer) I have over an hour until the midnight check...and the hockey game is in overtime...

Thanks for dropping by and for your comments on my page and blogs..Keep on Sparkin'

Yay for you for arriving at Onderland, always good to be there for sure. This sounds like a really great day! First the excellent weigh in, then the wildflowers that sound so beautiful! I just love flowers.
Then getting a great bargain at the auction. Next shopping & more fun. And getting to visit with all your wonderful friends & family.
I would definitely call it a great day! I hope all your days can be that wonderful!

Congratulations on reaching a great milestone...I remember the feeling well to finally be out of the 200 pound range.....I have done well to keep off my weight until this winter I let some pounds creep back on and I am struggling with losing them....but watching you do so well has motivated me to press on!

You are going to stay in onederland now!! I know you can do it, if I can you can. I am at a stand still right now again or I should say up three lbs one day and down it the next. Still trying to get medication straightened out. Get disgusted with the scales, but I have to weigh every morning so I know how much of the meds I have to take and also have to check the O2 level for the same reason.

I would be totally worn out if I would have had to keep up with you. Congrats on the tea, proud of you for that decision!!
God's blessings
