Hi..thanks to 4 calves yesterday and 6 today we now have 35 calves....last night I took the midnight check and there was a cow calving so hubby said he'd stay up for an hour and then check on her..well her calf was backwards and she was having trouble..so hubby woke me up to go out to help ...we finally got the calf born and with a few chest compressions and rubbing with rags the calf was doing okay..no off to bed again..at 2:30am...
...Soo I'm kinda dragging today..and hubby's cold/flu is still bad. All the new babies have kept us busy today...I rode my bike for 30 minutes in 2 parts, did lots of out walking about..tagging and treating calves, checking, quadding, putting out salt..moving herds around..even did a bit of gardening..what I didn't do is any house work and the place shows it!! Supper dished still on the cupboard, tomorrow's another day...
The porch is in desperate need of some cleaning!! Reminds me of the time when my oldest granddaughter was really little and came to visit during calving..she walked in the porch and I said to her..watch you don't step in the cow poop...she answered..Grandma why did you let the cow poop in your porch? Haha..little kiddos can be soo cute!!
We are having Easter on March 31 so that really doesn't leave me much time to get ready...I work better with a deadline..haha..Just don't let me get sick like hubby!!
I've been trying to shake up my meals a bit to jump start a weight loss...I feel so stuck...I get lots and lots of exercise and try to keep the calories in the range but I'm soo stalled..damn menopause and bad metabolism!!
I've been having an egg for breakfast with some whole grain toast..either rye or ww raisin...lunch was pancakes (I'm still doing meatless Fridays for Lent) One of my Spark friends..KEEPITMOVIN_H2O posted a recipe for Brownie Batter Pancakes..they were very yummy!! Supper was a small piece of microwave salmon, steamed asparagus, cauliflower and 1/2 cup rice...
I'm hoping the 5% Spring Challenge will help get me back on track..this week we've been tracking water..I've had 10 cups every day :) next week is tracking if we measure our portions....I'm looking forward to doing that this week :) I have new measuring spoons..when I cook or bake I usually eye ball (or as hubby says a glug of this....) I have a little cheap diet scale and measuring cups too...I have some rubbermaid food storage containers that have the sizes on the bottom so I use the 1/2 cup size for measuring and eating out of....
I talked to oldest daughter tonight and they can come for early Easter..they'll come Friday night and then have to leave early on the Sunday as littlest granddaughter has gymnastics that afternoon..son and the inlaws can come too, not middle daughter (she's still not talking to us)
We watched a couple hockey games tonight and now hubby's got the remote and channel surfing to all bad shows..glad I have my laptop to keep me busy :) the last show had this awful rap music that hurt my head...oh no..I hope I'm just tired and not getting sick...

Hi..I just got home from spending the evening with friends...hubby stayed home as he is feeling worse..fever and chills, running eyes, nose and ears and coughing and sneezing..he also aches all over and holds his head alot..hope he's better soon and that I don't get it..
Our friend's Dad had passed away and several couples went over for a visit...on the way there I saw 4 deer and on the way home the stars are beautiful out tonight!!
Hubby is asleep on the couch so I'm catching up on Sparkin' and watching a bit of tv until the midnight check...
While hubby fed cows today I rode my bike and did housework as usual, then we went out and tagged and treated the newest calves...I just had a quick lunch of peanut butter on rye and an orange..hubby had leftovers....
Then I was off to town to get a tire repaired or replaced (ended up being replaced) got the mail, went to the library, got a few groceries..stopped at the drugstore and got a magazine, then the tire was ready..I got drinking water on the way home.
Before supper I walked through the cow calf pairs and checked them all..then hubby was bringing up the herd and had 3 more new calves so I walked over to help him bring them up. too.
Supper was pork chops (I put 1/2 of mine away for Tuesday's stirfry) green beans, sweet potatoes, spinach salad..dessert was fresh strawberries and homemade yogurt....
For those of you who asked what saskatoons were..they are a berry similar to blue berries..they grow wild on our ranch so I pick lots and freeze them to use year round..yum yum!!
Well I tracked a night snack of cereal and milk..since I was below my calories for today so I better go eat my snack before midnight..then I'd have to track it on tomorrow's..haha...

Hi..we turned out cow calf pairs today to a small dry pasture and boy was that a lot of work..
Hubby shredded bales first for the cows to calve and the heifer calves that are replacements..I did a bit of house work and rode my bike..then after a quick quad ride around the fence to make sure it didn't need to be fixed anywhere we had a quick lunch..hubby had left over KFC and I had my new favorite.. asparagus, lightly steamed and a spinach, mushroom and green pepper salad with some skinless chicken bits added to it, then a grapefruit for dessert.
Then we started on the cattle..a few cows needed to be put in the chute to get new eartags and they all needed to be debugged with a pour on...once we had all that done and the ones sorted out and mothered hubby wanted turned out the chasing began..cows are easy to chase..calves not so much..they just go in all directions and we had to chase them through about 4 different corrals..so several loops around each corral with different sets of calves..(tonight I have aching calves, and feet..etc haha) I should have had on my pedometer!! We finally got them all out in time for coffee...
Hubby did a bit more chores..he says he's feeling better but he doesn't sound like it..he took all the checks last night..said he needed the fresh air to feel better.. he has lung problems so breathing with a bad cold/flu is never good. I really didn't argue with him as I was pooped from my busy day yesterday.
Supper was Salisbury steak, potatoes, peas and I had saskatoons and homemade yogurt.
After supper I walked through the small pasture and checked the newly turned out pairs..all were fine...
Our friends didn't call about going over to the other friend's place so either they didn't go or didn't let us know after all.anyway..we watched some hockey and had a beer and then we started to watch some videos from the library I got for hubby..he watched a couple of the stories and fell asleep so I turned it off until he's more awake..I had phoned to renew them since they were due tomorrow.
I'm planning to go to town tomorrow for mail and drinking water..the extra tracking item for the spring challenge this first week is water..I've gotten 10 cups each day so far..not hard for me..I like to drink it.. just need to remember to. We haul drinking water that we use for only drinking and making coffee, all other water we use tap water..cooking..since it's boiled, etc....so between the 2 of us, and hubby does drink a lot of water..we go through 4- 5 gallon jugs a week..and yes we drink a crazy amount of coffee!!
We had two calves today, so far...I plan to take the midnight and 3 am checks tonight..unless hubby talks me out of them..wink wink...
I've only had time to do a little bit of gardening but an itching to start more yard work...I did start some peppers for the garden inside a couple weeks ago and they still aren't up yet..maybe the seeds were duds? I bought a little 4 shelf green house for the family room and have to bring it up from the basement and start some flowers and maybe tomatoes...bought some asparagus seeds but need to research how to grow them...I know they are perennials and not to pick any until the third year...

Hi..we're having a wicked wind again today but the snowstorm has stayed on the west side of the province..for now..
Tomorrow I have to go to Weyburn for an appointment for the truck for an oil change and they need to check about a recall...hope the weather cooperates...I have some other errands to run and then get some groceries.. hubby will have to hold down the fort without me..
We had one more calf today and a couple more are working on it tonight...that makes 20 calves we have so far...it's been a very very slow start to calving...
While hubby shredded bales for the herd I rode the x bike for 30 minutes, did 15 minutes of yoga and 15 minutes of other exercises. I also did some housework and laundry...then I went out to help with chores and swing gates, cut twine and fork straw in the sheds...
Luckily lunch was just going to be a quick one..hubby had microwaved leftovers and I had a tuna and spinach salad with mushrooms, green peppers, and hot pickled peppers..with a kiwi fruit for dessert.
We went over to our friends for his birthday and coffee..we brought a card and the cupcakes I made for him..after the visit we went on to town for the mail and then home in time for hubby to do evening chores and me to make supper.... spagetti and meat sauce with extra veggies..onions, celery, mushrooms , grated carrots and tomato sauce...my dessert was fresh strawberries and homemade yogurt. My new plan is use less noodles and add more veggies..yum yum :)
I've been trying to figure out our Easter plans..oldest daughter doesn't want it on the Easter weekend since her youngest has to be with her Dad, son doesn't want it the weekend after since he already has plans for that weekend..I guess we'll try for the weekend before..which doesn't give me much time, does it. Actually Easter is easy..I always have ham, sweet potatoes and my world famous hot cross buns (haha) MIL brings a salad and veggies and dip (to every family get together..classic) and dessert is my world famous coconut cream pies..which I top with cool whip and make little nests of toasted coconut and put little chocolate eggies in the nests..so fun and yummy!!
I`m sure losing weight wouldn`t be so hard if I wasn`t such a foodie!!
Well I`ll be off to bed earlier tonight..hubby`s turn for the 3 am check..he is asleep on the couch and wants to be woke up at 10 pm to check on the cows... tomorrow will be an early start for me as the appointment is for 9 am.
