Happy Monday everyone...

Monday, March 19, 2012

Hi..we're having a wicked wind again today but the snowstorm has stayed on the west side of the province..for now..

Tomorrow I have to go to Weyburn for an appointment for the truck for an oil change and they need to check about a recall...hope the weather cooperates...I have some other errands to run and then get some groceries.. hubby will have to hold down the fort without me..

We had one more calf today and a couple more are working on it tonight...that makes 20 calves we have so's been a very very slow start to calving...

While hubby shredded bales for the herd I rode the x bike for 30 minutes, did 15 minutes of yoga and 15 minutes of other exercises. I also did some housework and laundry...then I went out to help with chores and swing gates, cut twine and fork straw in the sheds...

Luckily lunch was just going to be a quick one..hubby had microwaved leftovers and I had a tuna and spinach salad with mushrooms, green peppers, and hot pickled peppers..with a kiwi fruit for dessert.

We went over to our friends for his birthday and coffee..we brought a card and the cupcakes I made for him..after the visit we went on to town for the mail and then home in time for hubby to do evening chores and me to make supper.... spagetti and meat sauce with extra veggies..onions, celery, mushrooms , grated carrots and tomato dessert was fresh strawberries and homemade yogurt. My new plan is use less noodles and add more veggies..yum yum :)

I've been trying to figure out our Easter plans..oldest daughter doesn't want it on the Easter weekend since her youngest has to be with her Dad, son doesn't want it the weekend after since he already has plans for that weekend..I guess we'll try for the weekend before..which doesn't give me much time, does it. Actually Easter is easy..I always have ham, sweet potatoes and my world famous hot cross buns (haha) MIL brings a salad and veggies and dip (to every family get together..classic) and dessert is my world famous coconut cream pies..which I top with cool whip and make little nests of toasted coconut and put little chocolate eggies in the fun and yummy!!

I`m sure losing weight wouldn`t be so hard if I wasn`t such a foodie!!

Well I`ll be off to bed earlier tonight..hubby`s turn for the 3 am check..he is asleep on the couch and wants to be woke up at 10 pm to check on the cows... tomorrow will be an early start for me as the appointment is for 9 am.

Thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin`

Love Donna emoticon

Enjoy the first day of SPRING tomorrow!! emoticon

The Easter meal sounds to good. I found out I'm going to have family over and I'm still thinking about the menu.
I love the calf pictures. They look so adorable, just like Big puppies!

i sympathize about trying to get family together for a holiday meal... it can get so complicated that I sometimes wonder if it's worth all the fuss... but in the end, it is worth it.

Just one calf today..

Monday, March 19, 2012

Hi...this calving is really slow this year..usually it picks up by now...must be waiting for a snow storm..haha!!

Today I did some housework catch ups and laundry..visited on the phone, rode my x bike, helped with chores, cleaned up some in the garden, baked some goodies and surfed the web.

I got my 10 cups of water in and had our basic Sunday meals..I do the meal planning loosely and Sundays are..lunch..eggs and toast (hash browns for hubby) and sometimes bacon or sausage or ham..but no meat today..I had some of my homemade salsa from last fall it with eggs and toast. Supper was oven baked chicken and sweet potatoes and peas..I also made a low cal key lime pie and had a tiny piece....I also baked a few dozen chocolate cupcakes to take to a friend tomorrow for his Birthday...they are all iced and boxed up and ready to go.

There was 2 hockey games on and both Edmonton and Winnipeg lost :(...I spent my time looking up things on Pinterest...and drinking more water...

Tonight is my night for the midnight and 3 am cow checks..I did the midnight one last night and hubby did the 3 am works better to take turns so neither of us gets too tired out..

I rode a few times on the check for calves and move cows around..I love riding the quad..and checking out the signs of spring..geese are flying over and I found some green grass up by my garden and a few sprouts of iris growing in my garden...

I have my food all tracked and the exercise and water entered into the 5% spring to find something to do for 2 hours until the midnight check.... maybe check some blogs...

Well it's been a very productive day..thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

I feel a little lost because I don't know how many calves you all have had yet. I was so looking for ward to keeping track. I hope to do better now that I am home. Still a lot going on and I can't sit here any longer. Maybe will catch you later when I get back in here.

Happy St Patrick's Day!!!

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Hi..everyone :) Hope you're all having the best St. Pat's Day ever :)

We had another calf last night when I took the midnight check..son's cow calved. We had one other calf today is all and son's calf got stepped on by other cows and died..yikes..hate to lose them..

We went up to the draft tournament and watched son's 11 am game this morning after chores..had a bit of a visit with him (his calf hadn't died yet so he doesn't know, yet) Also saw lots of old friends and had some visits..son used to play hockey in this town in high school.

We had a quick lunch of rink burgers and coffee and stopped by our hometown for the mail and were back at home shortly after 2 pm.

Besides the rink burger meals were better nutritionally..breakfast was green eggs and ham..thank you Dr Seuss (eggs scrambled with ham and spinach on dark rye toast)..Supper was corn, beef and cabbage..notice the comma..haha. We had some grilled round steak, frozen corn and some roasted veggies which included carrots, onions, potatoes and sliced cabbage..drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with Mrs Dash..yum yum..will definitely make roasted cabbage again, a healthy alternative to fried cabbage..dessert was key lime cupcakes and fresh strawberries...and tonight, as I watch a couple hockey games I'm enjoying a green beer..Bud light lime..mmmmmmm....hubby is having a Guiness..way too strong for my tastes...

I did my 30 minutes on the x bike while hubby shredded bales...then when we got home I visited on the phone with one of my sisters, helped with chores and brought the herds up to the yard for the night..a nice walk and forked hay for the bulls..not so nice as a bit windy and got very itchy :( Then I helped hubby treat and tag some of the new calves and that is when we found son's dead calf :(.

Today is the first day of the 5% Spring Challenge..we did the first weigh in..I'm up a pound..drat...then we tracked fitness minutes and water drank...

Go Starfish!! emoticon

Tonight is my night to sleep through the night..I'll take the midnight check and then hubby can take the 3 am check...

I did a bunch of laundry..a job I really needed to catch up on..the house work always suffers during decluttering projects are falling behind!!

Well, thanks for dropping by..keep on Sparkin'

The Spring Challenge starts tomorrow..go Starfish!!

Friday, March 16, 2012

Hi..just a quick's been another busy day..chores, bike, 2 more calves...we also went to Plentywood Montana for their Farm Expo for a few hours...then did a bit of shopping and then home for more chores and supper.

There was too much tempting things at the Expo and I had one free chocolate chip cookie and we each had a piece of pie..I had a small cheese cake pie as it had graham wafer I had already tracked breakfast and lunch and knew I had room for it in my calories...then we stopped for treats at the convience store and I just had plain coffee!!

Lunch was a tuna and spinach salad with mushrooms and pickled hot peppers and a grapefruit: supper was a fish fillet, green beans, a slice of dark rye bread and some saskatoon berries and homemade greek yogurt. I'm doing meatless Fridays for game snacks will all have to be no cal like water or tea, haha!!

Especially since tomorrow is the weigh in for the 5% Spring Challenge...

It's my turn to take the midnight and 3 am cattle checks..hubby is already asleep on the couch...our son is at a draft tournamnet to play hockey, at a close town, about 45 minutes from us....he has 3 games..9:30pm tonight , 11:30 tomorrow morning and 3 pm tomorrow afternoon, not sure if we'll make any of the games...not the one tonight for sure..too tired to add anything else to our day...we'll see if the calves cooperate tomorrow..

Well, guess I'll go and make some tea...thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

A rash of good luck: too cute!

Thanks for your kind comment on my "best dressed" blog: you can be sure that I love jeans and plaid flannel shirts and Tshirts and rubber boots and all of that . . . my weekend go-to, absolutely.

So: I'm betting you were rocking those jeans and Tshirts (and the rubber boots too!!).

Not about the money: all about the bod!!
