Hi..when I went out for the 11;30 pm check it was raining here and there was another new baby...got hubby and we moved the pair up to the corral where the first pair was so they had a shed and straw for bedding. She's a cute little tan too.
We have red and black angus cows bred to white charolais bulls, black and red angus bulls..so the calves are all either tan colored like the first 2 or red or black.
Today I haelped more with chores and cleaning out the lean-to on the barn..we talked to son on the phone last night for his birthday and we both told him how much we missed him (especially when cleaning the barn..haha) We are getting too old for all the physical labour of ranching..but we love the lifestyle :) So great to be out in nature for our living...
I was reading in a magazine while I did my 30 minutes on the x-bike and it was an interesting article about the healing sounds of nature..
..ocean waves cure insomnia
...dolphin sounds heal disease
...whales reenergize you
...babbling brooks relieve pain
...bird songs ease anxiety..
all with links to find these sounds..I love to listen to our satellite dish tv to the nature music channel..and hear all these sounds and more...for when I'm not actually out in nature :)
Tomorrow is a close friend's birthday and another friend and I are going over in the afternoon with cake and gifts and an afternoon of visiting. All three of us have spring birthdays ..March, April and mine is May so we go to each other's place..looking forward to this outing...
I'm relaxing on the couch watching hockey tonight..just finished visiting with my sister on the phone.
Two of my three kids live in or near Saskatoon and there has been some nasty weather up there today..daughter had a stormy drive home afterwork with her 2 little ones..glad they're all home safe.
It's going to get quite cold here tonight so we'll be doing a few extra night checks, it can get really cold on the new wet babies and they will need to be moved up into the shed or maye even the barn tonight..depending on the wind..
I dug out the calving record book and the ear tags, etc so I can start with the paper work..we'll wait til we have a few more before we start tagging them, we also give them some shots of vitamins and minerals and treat their navels..then moms will get debugged too and if any mommas are missing eartags we'll retag them too. All very time consuming...and can be dangerous..the mommas can be very protective..we usually carry a stock cane just in case...we've both had some run ins with cows so we are well aware of the dangers...my first reaction is always to scream loudly and that seems to stop them in their tracks (usually) but hubby always jokes..that now they're deaf...haha.
I don't know why it was so hard to upload the picture yesterday..I have a slot on my lap top for my camera card so I did it that way and it took 5 or 6 tries before it worked..anyone else have problems and anyone have some tips..I seem to usually have these problems...
Well..better go for now..maybe make some green tea to drink during the hockey game and then head out for a cow check..the game is on til midnight..hubby is asleep on the couch...
Thanks for dropping by and for your comments on my blogs..Keep on Sparkin'
Maybe I'll try to upload another picture...The herd...
