Bad roads..icy, rain and wind :(

Thursday, December 29, 2011

Hi..we had a bad trip with the bull this was really icy and then we went on to Weyburn for just a bit of shopping and home again..almost went in the ditch :( and the semis were't slowing down at all..glad hubby was driving..

Phoned oldest daughter and told her to make sure and check the highway report before coming down if the roads are still bad..we can always get together a different weekend.. not sure about the turkey tho..guess I'll thaw it and cook it anyway or pop it back in the freezer if they don't come..or cook it and then slice and freeze it for later?? What ever not gonna stress over for Grandkids and daughter to be safe!!

I got some cards for next year, wrap paper and tissue all for half price.. also got a bit of groceries..fruits and veggies and milk. we stopped and had coffee with hubby's work office staff and then stopped for lunch at a gas station run by a friend nearer to home than Weyburn.

Well, I've been doing a bit of tidying and made up the beds and watched a couple hockey games...I've been back on the bike lots since Christmas..reading and working on my New Year Resoltions and goals...

One is to get to bed earlier..before 11 pm so that's been working out so a matter of fact it's not even 10pm yet and I'm ready for bed..the trip was a little nerve wracking...

Thanks for dropping by..thanks for all your comments..Keep on Sparkin'

Hope you have some new goals in mind for 2012...Happy New Year!! Let's make it the best year yet....we have the power!! emoticon

    Hi Donna!
Thanks for keeping us up on your busy days. So glad you are getting time to get your exercising in. I need to start hitting the bed a lot earlier than I have been also.
Time to get re-motivated! I'm ready for the holidays to be behind me now. We've had great weather her in CA. Only 2 days of rain all month & mostly sunshine. We just came back from L.A. and it was in the upper 70's. It is unseasonably warm even for Calif.
Here's to a great New Year! emoticon

Glad you made it home safely. We were planning to go about 3 hours north to our daughter's in-laws to celebrate her 25th birthday (she's up there for a week), but the roads were snow packed with icy patches... so DH very wisely said he wouldn't go. I was very relieved, because driving long distances in the winter is not fun to me... I avoid it whenever possible.

Winter driving is scary, whether you're doing it or waiting anxiously for loved ones to arrive! That's Canada I guess. On a positive note, there may soon be enough snow for my cross country skis here!

Eep. Icy roads are so scary. I'm lucky to have public transit for the days the roads are slick. I let a professional do the driving!

Advice from a Snowman...

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

Hi..thought I'd share another advice poem.. Thanks to Ilan can find more of these cool poems at

Advice from a Snowman.. emoticon

Be a jolly, happy soul

Spend time outdoors

Stay cool

It's okay to be a little bottom heavy

Avoid meltdowns

Be well rounded

Live well, life is short.

Well this last week of December is flying we had snow and freezing rain so at one point it was a bit white mostly brown again..after last year's record snowfall I'll take this little break..and I'm sure January and February will bring lots of snow so I can try out my new snowshoes :)

I've spent the last couple of days preparing for the next Christmas run..oldest DD and her family will be here Friday. I got the bedding ready and the house tidied, some tarts made (and overcooked abit ) and some of her favorite cookies remade..also realized I needed to make my turkey soup so I can have my roaster back out of the freezer where I stashed it for have 4 quarts of chunky turkey broth in the freezer just have to thaw and add some various veggies and weekly soup will be ready for January :)

DS and his girlfriend are in Montana, snowboarding in the mountains and having a great time :) Other daughter that wants to have nothing to do with us phoned on Boxing day and nothing has changed and another stressful conversation....I won't let her unhappiness rob me of my happiness when there is nothing I can do about her..

Speaking of happiness I've been working on New Year's Resolutions and goals for the year and plan to loosely follow The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin..I'll use some of her ideas and add some of my own and use her tracking system to keep accountable..more on that later..

Also I've joined Pinterest and it has lots of stuff to read and find!! Check it out if you're a saver like me..haha..maybe I can get rid of my gazillion magazine clippings and just keep stuff online?? haha

Today hubby and I finally got the track back on the cat tractor..we haven't been working nonstop since it broke but we're really glad it's together again. I ran to get some parts for him today and pay the fuel bill before the end of the year and them we finally got it together just before dark!! I was helping pry with a 4 foot pry bar and I bent the bar..Apparently not very good steel or I'm stronger than I think..quite a work out anyway!!

I finally got around to redyeing my hair and tried the new foamy kind but didn't like it much..the color is great but where ever I dripped it on me it wouldn't wipe off and now I have lots of spots..told my sister when we go to the spa next week I'm wearing a sweater in the pool since I dripped dye down my back..yikes.

Well we have to be on the road bright and early tomorrow to take a bull to be butchered..he has a lump so his breeding days are on to his eating days.. anyone have some good recipes for hamburger..I mean A LOT of hamburger???

Then we may go on to Weyburn and do a bit of late Boxing day shopping..the sales will still be on for next year's cards and gift to buy it at half price!!!

Thanks for dropping by and thanks for all your kind comments on my blogs..I appreciate the support!! Keep on Sparkin'

I'm going to check out The Happiness Project - thanks for mentioning it. We're having a quiet couple of days, and I'm sorting out resolutions for the new year. Looking at the big picture, I'm proud of myself for losing 32 lbs over the past year and a half, and looking forward to losing another 15.
I'm trying to remind myself to make a tea when I feel like eating... it's going to take some time for it to become a habit.
Have a great New Year.

Hey, just curious what foaming dye did you use? I have tried to and loved how easy the application was but one did stain me quite a bit, partly my own messy application, but I was so surprised. Took a lot of effort to get it off.

Enjoyed your snowman wisdom . . . and the inspiration to get my turkey bones out of the freezer to make broth!! Just now I've got an interim pot of vegan chili, hot hot hot! We've got quite a bit of snow and I felt that the spicy heat would suit!

It is a nice break from the snow this year, but I am fearful that it is coming! We will not escape without a big one I feel certain. I bet it makes the chores easier without the snow! Have fun on Friday, another celebration. Too bad about your daughter, it hurts when the relationship is strained. And even more so, because you can do anything about it. Hope she will come around eventually! I hope you have a LOT of freeze space for the bull! emoticon Have a great day!

Thanks for the sparkgoodie and Merry Christmas to you!
So glad that your able to relax and enjoy your Day. We drove up to Roseville, CA to visit my Mom and my Sister, Brother in law and niece & nephew. The night before we were at my Daughters with her in laws and the Grandkids. We had a great time, but I am so ready for a break.
I really liked that movie Knight & Day. I guess it didn't do to well at the box office but I thought it was funny.
Right now I'm ready for a cup of tea too. Talk more soon.
