The Blessing of Family...

Thursday, December 22, 2011

Hi...Today's blessing is Family..and I'm realy anxious to have son come home for early Christmas tomorrow!! We get to meet his new girlfriend too.

I cleaned like a mad woman today and the house is pretty spiffy if I don't say so myself, I left a few things to do tomorrow since they won't be here until lunch...I did up the bedding and several other loads of laundry, mats too, etc. I left the quick swipe of the bathroom and washing the floors in the porch, kitchen and bathroom.

I did the last of the decorating..since I have an artifical tree I like to take a little saw out to our fir trees and trim a bottom branch off and put little sprigs on the tops of some pictures and mirrors and top that with a bow that matches the ribbon on my tree :) Makes the house smell like Christmas..yum yum!!

We have two bedroom doors leading from the livingroom and they are painted white and wrapped with ribbon to look like presents..then I put my Christmas cards on diplay there.

I put my just painted porch back together and decorated it with a western theme..a string of rope lights looks like a lariat and I have lots of cowboy ornaments.

Hubby and I just finished sharing Christmas drinks..rye and 7 and we're watching hockey (no I'm watching hockey and hubby is asleep on the couch)

Back to the Blessing of Family..this is a hard one for is very dear to me..both my parents have passed away and my only brother, too. I have 2 sisters and I don;t usually see them over Christmas..oldest sister lives in Saskatoon and has 7 adult children, most married and some with children. My other sister lives in Regina and we are very close..she has two kids and they live in Alberta and the daughter will be home for Christmas.

Since my 3 kids have moved away from home most or all have spent Christmas here or at least part of the holiday. This year I'll be feeling blue because not only is my daughter from Alberta not coming home she is upset and not speaking to us. Hubby's parents always spend Christmas with us since hubby is an only child.

I am very happy that son will be home for early Christmas and oldest daughter, her boyfriend and her 2 little girls will be here the New Years weekend..this is the year the little granddaughters have to spend Christmas with their Dads.

I'm determined to follow this quote.."Let us choose to remember the love in our lives, all that is there in our lives, rather than what is missing"

..and remember it's best to look at what we have instead of what we've lost....

Well..the hockey game is almost over so I should wrap this feels good to breathe a sigh and know everything is all ready for Christmas..we may go to Plentywood for supper tomorrow or else I'll make a beef roast..the turkey is for Friday and the cabbage rolls, too.

Thanks so much for dropping by..I appreciate all the comments and encouragement!! I hope you all have he very Merriest Christmas ever and keep on Sparkin' emoticon

Lovely blog: and I do so agree, that focusing on what we have intead of what we don't is essential to happiness.

Your MIA daughter will come to appreciate her wonderful mother in time: she has to!!

Family is wonderful. I get to see my parents tomorrow who I haven't seen since June and my brother and his family who I haven't seen since last Christmas. We are all getting together in Wisconsin for a few days to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. Family is always there to count on though in whatever you need. I love the time we have together.

The blessing of Giving...

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Wow..I typed a long blog and added to pictures and when I went to post it it diiappeared..I wish there was some way to get it back :(

Well here goes blog is giving and I feel like I gave my blog to cyber space.

Today was spent doing housework and a quick trip to town ..I delivered gifts to friends along the way to town, then delivered treats to the drugstore staff, did some banking, got some groceries..the local co-op had lefsa so I got some :) running out of time to make it, then I got the mailed and mailed a few more cards..does that happen to you.. you think you have all your cards finished and then people send you a card that you haven't sent to?? We got lots more cards and some letters and pictures..I love to receive cards :) I picked up our community calendar and went to the second hand store to drop off some stuff and I shopped a bit there too. I got 2 travel mugs with large flat bottoms that are great for in the tractor. Got a few books and some health magazines, too..great for my renewed health goals for January. I stopped for drinking water on the way home.

I got home in time to finish painting the porch after coffee with hubby and then made a quick supper of noodles, tomato sauce and frozen meatballs. Then I finished cleaning
and putting porch stuff away...I'm having tea while I blog and watch hockey. It's my new favorite flavor..mulled apple herbal..yumyum!! I'm having it in my Maxine Christmas mug that says..Wouldn't be the holidays without turkey and some stressing!!

I've spent most of today gifts and treats, gave stuff to the second hand store to sell, treats to people..working on giving my family and me a clean house for the holidays...

I'll try to add some pictures but I'll post this first so it doesn't disappear like the last one.

Thanks so much for dropping by..keep on giving..keep on Sparkin' emoticon

Today's Christmas Blessing is Love..

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

"May the Lord gently bless you
And place in your care,
The blessing of love
And kindness to share."

Today's blessing of the 12 Blessings of Christmas is Love..have you heard the quote " you can give without loving but you can't love without giving" ...I'm not sure whose quote that is but I think it's very fitting for this Christmas season. I hope you all have love in your life and there is so many different kinds of love..romantic love, a parents love, a friends love..self love..all are important for balance in your life. I am truly blessed by many people who love me. First and foremost is my loving husband of 34 years, my kids, my grandkids, my relatives, my friends...when you stop to be grateful for all the blessings you have you really do mirror that back in your life.

A quote from"Let us choose to remember the love in our lives, all that is there in our lives rather than what's missing."

"When you seek love with all your heart, you shall find it's echo's in the universe." ~Rumi

Today was a busy day, we went up to Weyburn for a last day of shopping, and hubby did some business..I got the fresh groceries I need for the Christmas's..before that I downloaded and e-mailed some pictures for hubby's work..easier said than done as I had to use hubby's computer since the new camera wouldn't download on mine and his computer has lots of problems!! Is there anything more frustrating than a computer on the fritz??

We had lunch at A&W and I had the grilled chicken breast burger..yum yum..they serve it on a wheat bun with lettuce and tomatoes and pickles...and my :)

We also stopped at a friend's and bought a huge container for storage..the kind they put on ships..we're going to but it next to the shop to store oil, parts and the quads inside. It's like 10'x48' will be very handy :)

We got home in time for a quick supper of smokies, cabbage, baked potatoes and mixed veggies..hubby did chores and checked the herd and chopped the water holes while I mad supper. After supper a neighbor came over for a visit and beer and we exchanged Christmas gifts. When him and his mother are gone over Christmas he may want us to do some chores for him..depends on if they decide to stay overnight where they are going...He has lots of sheep and some cattle....we had a fun visit with lots of laughs..exercise for the insides :)..or as my late mother used to say.."I laughed so hard the tears ran down my legs..." I always loved her sense of of my best memories of her :)

Well..I didn't get any goodies sent to friends yet..I'll try to do some tonight..before I fall asleep.. hubby is already asleep on the couch!! That's what I did last night..

Tomorrow is housecleaning day :) Have I ever mentioned I'm housecleaning challenged?? ugh...

Thanks so much for dropping by..Love to have you drop in for a visit..keep on Sparkin'

The Blessing of Friends!!

Sunday, December 18, 2011

Hi..I am almost ready for Christmas..all that's left is to clean the house..and around here that should be at the last minute or it won't stay to order a maid..haha any offers?

I finished all the baking including a new recipe from my mother in law that didn't turn out nearly as good as hers; sugar cookies, gingerbread men, my mom's brown sugar shortbread, poppy cock, fudge and cinnamon rolls and 2 swedish tea rings..which cooked over in the oven so I had an unplanned oven cleaning, too. Then I made 2 huge dutch ovens of cabbage for early Christmas with our son and one for late Christmas..New Years with oldest daughter and her family :)

So at this rate I'll be off to Weyburn tomorrow and have to pick up a couple grocery items.. sweet potatoes, foil for the turkey and dish soap...hubby has some business to do, too.

I need to make one trip to our local town for mail and deliver a few gifts along the way. That'll be Tuesday or Wednesday...should just take a few hours out of one of those days...

Besides all the bakin' and cookin' today I went with hubby to check on some oil sites for his job and take some pictures to give to the office tomorrow, then I checked the herd and chopped water holes..and did night chores for hubby.

Now it's time to relax on the couch with my lap top and catch up on spark :)

Today's Blessing is the Blessing of Friends!! I am truly blessed to have lots and lots of friends..Spark friends..neighbors..former co-workers..classmates, parents of my kids classmates..on and on..I have several really close friends, and hundreds of other people I consider my friends from lots of different communities....I hope you are as blessed as me in the friendship department :)

Christmas is a great time to catch up with friends with cards and visits and gifts..I have a few close friends that I exchange gifts with, I send out about 50 Christmas cards, and I've spent some fun times with friends already in December.

I'm going to try and connect with lots of my Spark friends over the next few days to send some goodies, comments and Christmas greetings. I started yesterday and sent a few so that's a start... if I miss you..I want to take this time and wish you all the Merriest Christmas ever and the Happiest New Year!! Let's rock 2012!! WooHoo!!!

Thanks so much for dropping by!! Keep on Sparkin' all my dear Spark friends :)

...May you always have LOVE to share
HEALTH to spare and FRIENDS who care.

The next Blessing is the Blessing of Beauty :)

Saturday, December 17, 2011

Hi..hope you are having a better weekend than me...hubby is in a bad mood since his cat broke down while he was working on the corrals...a track fell off and we couldn't get the pin out so we could put it back on :( It weighs a ton so working with it was a major work out ..but it's not fixed yet. To try and put hubby in a better mood I did chores.

I finished up wrapping all the Christmas gifts and did some I'm making progress in getting ready for Thursday when son and girlfriend arrive!!

Tomorrow I hope to get the rest of the baking done and make cabbage rolls. Hubby has another trip to Weyburn on Monday and I'm not sure if I'm going or not. We have some gifts to deliver to friends and neighbors but that's in the other direction...we'll see how much I get done tomorrow.

Now on to today's Blessing...Beauty..I love all the beautiful decorations of the season..the tree, the lights etc...I try to make my home beautiful for the season..inside and out. My out side lights are white icicle lights along the west side, I have an inflatable santa and snowman on my front deck, I have faux evergreen swag with multi lights above the door, also a wreath and 4 hanging planters with faux greens and burgundy poinsettias. One last decoration is a metal cowboy twirling a rope outlined in blue and white lights. If I catch any after Christmas sales I may look for those jewel toned LED lights and get several strings and do a big evergreen in the backyard. I saw one like that in Regina and it was really beautiful :)

When I wrap up the gifts, I try to make the packages as beautiful as I can. For the past several years I get a large gift bag for each person and then wrap their gifts in matching paper and put them all inside the big bag, add some tissue, lots of curling ribbon and then a coordinating Christmas ornament (from the $ Store) tied onto the handle...I found the nicest western bag for hubby and I reuse it every year..the other bags get sent home with the recipients. The ornament on hubby's is gold jingle bells..hohoho!!

When we came home from Williston we stopped at Plentywood, Montana for supper at one of our favorite places, then we went on a sparkle tour..lots of really beautiful yards :)

Today was weigh in for the Starfish 5% challenge and I was up 3 pounds..ouch..most is water weight I'm sure since all those salty meals out :( Time to step it up and not get discouraged and renew my commitment to healthy eating..I know I'll be struggling these next 2 weeks so I'm hoping to hold my own and eat reasonable and then amp it up in January!!

I can't remember if I mentioned I bought some snowshoes? I've been wanting some for a long time and really wished I had them last year with all our now I bought some and guess what..we have no snow??haha!! I'm sure it will come, we don't have many years with no snow. Looking forward to melting off some holiday pounds when it finally does snow :)

Well, we just watched one hockey game..Vancouver beat Toronto and now Edmonton plays San Jose so it's a double header...think I'll make some tea even tho I feel like beer (maybe several beer!!) haha..but tea it will be..may apple spice yum yum!

Thanks so much for stopping by and thanks for all the goodies, comments and support...
Keep on Sparkin'

Remember to enjoy the beauty all around you (We had a beautiful day of hoar frost..just like a Christmas card, a few days ago)

emoticon Love Donna

Deck the Halls

May your Christmas be filled
With beauty and light,
And your New Year be fresh
With promise so bright.

T.J. Mills emoticon

ps..the day after I wrote the blog on kindness I had an e-mail about a book on kindness. Today on my facebook page a friend sent me a link to a free book on Amazon about Blessings and I found out I can download a Kindle app for free from Amazon and get free books..who knew?? Maybe you all knew? haha Tomorrow I expect to get an e-mail about beauty..don't cha love it when that happens..
..bye bye all my beautiful friends emoticon

Loved your positive blog. I love the fact that you enjoy Christmas so much and really decorate to help bring that wonderful feeling to everyone who comes by.
I should have watched the hockey game with you. San Jose Sharks is my team (sorry about that game). I live in San Jose and once in awhile we go see the Sharks play downtown at the arena, they call it the shark tank.
Hope you can get some usage on your new snow shoes. We will never get that much snow here. We've had a sunshiny day every day this month except one day that it rained a little.

Thank you for your lovely blog about beauty. Christmas is such a beautiful time of year, both outside, in our homes, and in our hearts. I love your idea about using one Christmas bag for each person and wrapping the individual gifts and putting them inside. Perhaps I will do that as well.

Hopefully your DH will get his cat fixed and be in a better mood tomorrow.

Enjoy your last week leading up to Christmas,

It really is fun to drive around and see how people decorate their places for Christmas.

We had freezing fog last night and then it cleared, so everything was nice and sparkly this morning.

It sure has been a nicer winter this year, it is already a month shorter than last year. With any luck, we'll get just a skiff of snow for Christmas and then we won't have much until later.

Have a nice Sunday and enjoy your last week up to Christmas --- it sounds like you have everything almost ready.
