Back on the bike today...

Thursday, November 10, 2011

Hi..Today I rode the bike for 30 minutes..I was reading one of my magazines and the time just flew by.

Except for riding along to check the herd with hubby I spent today working on house stuff for a change...oh yeah I also helped him replace the alternator on one of our trucks before lunch. Lunch was deer chili and I made him a lemon poppy seed bundt cake for dessert (I had a small piece, too) Then he was off to town for get supplies for the fence we're building and to pick up some salt and minerals we ordered for the cattle. While he was gone I did some work on the and of my November goals was is to simplify my house..part of my attack plan is to fill 30 black garbage bags and get them out of the house. So far I have filled one bag with summer stuff and put it away in the garden shed, one bag full of recycling cans and bottles to take to Sarcan in Weyburn, one bag of old clothes for grease rags..out to the shop, one bag of old toys, etc. and a bag of clothes to take to the Salvation Army, and one bag of garbage...the house feels lighter already...

I love to do batch cooking when I have time and today was a perfect opportunity I thawed out a lot of burger and made 11dozen meatballs..baked them, then froze them in bags to use later..I put 8 to a bag..they are quite big so I got 16 meals ..I have lots of recipes for my meatball madness....makes for a quick meal...anyone want to share their favorite meatball recipe? I like BBQ sauce in a sub/spaghetti and meatballs/sweet and sour meatballs with rice/ meatballs with mushroom gravy on mashed potatoes/Mini sliders/ it goes on and on...
I also sliced up some of the bundt cake and froze them for hubby's snacks.

In one of my magazines there is a section of "shooter" at Applebees :) neat ideas for portion control..I think I'm going to start a mini book of recipes...

In the same magazine there were recipes for oatmeal toppings..there were 6 ideas
-stir in canned pumpkin and granola for a harvest flavor
-top with coconut and dark chocolate chips for a decadent taste
-add dried fruit, a touch of brown sugar and cinnamon for autumn goodness
-stir in some almond butter and raspberry jam for a homey taste
-top with walnuts and blueberries to increase fruit servings
-stir in peanut butter, chopped apple and a sprinkle of brown sugar

They all sound yummy!! I've been doing really great with breakfast..every morning in November I've had oatmeal :)

Tomorrow a neighbor is helping us haul our cattle home from the far away pasture. The weather has warmed up some and some of the snow has melted....We may fence tomorrow too if we have the time..otherwise we'll have all of Saturday to work on the fence, then it'll be almost time to move the main herd from the north fall grazing to the east fall grazing, hopefully not during a blizzard again....

As I type this I'm watching another hockey game and I'm about ready to make another cup of that very yummy new tea...mulled apple mmmmm.

Hubby picked up the mail when he was in town and I got 3 more magazines so I think I'll do some reading with my tea...

Thanks for dropping by for tea..Keep on Sparkin' emoticon

I'm trying to get caught up reading some blogs. I've been so busy working on house projects I've only been logging in meals and exercise and doing my sparkpoints stuff.
I like your idea of getting rid of excess stuff (I need to be always do that).
I love your idea of batch cooking. I don't like cooking that much so seems like a great thing to do. I'm sure it will save a lot of time later.
Love your blogs Donna!

Love these oatmeal ideas -- and so impressed with you for making your own meatballs: really time consuming but then so convenient once you have 'em, and of course you know exactly what went into 'em!

Yup, "bacon" marmalade: I could get addicted to this stuff (45 cal per tbsp so not totally terrible, a little goes a long way . . . ) and I don't eat bacon actually: but this is amazing stuff!

Sounds like you had a good day.

It looks like the weather will hold for another day or so. We still have snow on the ground, I was hoping it would be gone by now.

Have a good day.

Happy Tuesday everyone!!

Tuesday, November 08, 2011

Hi..I'm resting up on the couch with my lap top and a hockey game...had a typical busy day and I'm very tired tonight..I didn't sleep very well last night..not at all usual for me..I'm usually out like a log!!

I went to town this morning for the mail and to return library books, I also stopped at the drugstore and bought some more Christmas magazines...had left over potato soup and a sandwich for lunch...then we unloaded the broken posts from the last two days of fencing and cut them up for firewood..the porch and the family room are both well stocked for awhile now..then back out fencing..we're building a fence around the oil lease so we can fall graze there when the cows are finished up north in a week or 10 days...fenced til dark so had a late supper of perogies, peas, onions and ham....

We have the wood stove going in the family it's getting toasty here..I got really cold fencing..did lots of walking..we put in the corner posts and then stretched wire and then pounded the posts along one side..the wire is a guide so the fence is straight..hubby wanted me to drive the tractor but there was so much snow and it was hilly and slippery so instead I ran the controls on the post pounder (for most posts..some were just in too bad hubby put them in) I fell quite a few times so my knees are sore again..I didn't get my 30 bike riding in but I'm going to call the 3 hours of fencing my exercise for today!!

Time to brew me a hot cup of tea and make some popcorn for hubby...

Thanks for stopping by for will be an early night as we're off to another neighbor's in the morning to help sort their calves for market...then more fencing!! Keep on Sparkin' emoticon

Sask provincial election today.....

Monday, November 07, 2011 is the provincial election and the Sask party has won a landslide..woohoo....

We started this morning bright and early at the neighbor's to sort their calves for took around 2 1/2 hours so that's lots of running...then home to check our herd we moved up north..all is fine with them..settled down nice since the storm...but boy do we have lots of snow!! Then after lunch we went in to vote and did some business and then to check our far away herd..they were all fine after the storm..still hope to get them home by Saturday and send those calves to market Sunday.

Hubby went back fencing and I rode my x bike for 30 minutes; cleaned out the wood stove ashes; did chores and made the way lunch was noodles, veggies and meat balls; supper was burgers, carrots and parsnips and spinach salad...

Now I'm watching the election results and having a beer instead of tea for tonight...

..and I'm going to make this an early night...And Keep on Sparkin' emoticon

Glad you're happy with the results. I'm not familiar with the Sask Party; where to they fall on the Conservative-Liberal-NDP scale?

Snow, snow everywhere.....

Sunday, November 06, 2011

Hi...winter arrived last night and now we have lots of least we went all of Sept and Oct without snow :)

Our planned cattle drive for this morning didn't go well at all..the cows didn't want to move into the storm...and we got pretty cold..we started out on quads then I got cold so hubby told me to get the 4x4 to flash on the road but the cattle wouldn't chase and went through the fence and so on...not a happy start to the day..then we went fencing after lunch and chores and tried again to move the cattle..they finally co-operated and we got them to the north hay fields to fall graze.

In between all that we had toast and eggs for lunch; chicken and sweet potatoes and corn for supper; I rode my x bike for 30 minutes; talked to my son and one of my daughters and one of my sisters on the phone; checked some cows that stayed home, carried wood for a fire tonight it's nice and cozy here..ready to finish my blog and have some tea..what kind should I have tonight?? I think's turning into my favorite...

Hope you all had a great weekend. Tomorrow we're off bright and early to help at a neighbors to sort their calves for their calf sale..they have lots of calves so 2 semi loads to go. We have to be there by 7 am. Then we'll go to town to vote in the provincial election and do some business there and then check our far away herd of cattle that we haven't hauled home yet..that will hopefully get done this week.

Well..I'm off to get my tea..thanks for dropping by..Keep on Sparkin' emoticon

So good to keep a positive outlook. Sounds like you get enough exercise

We're having chilly mornings and nights, sometimes in teh 30's. Mostly the days are 60-66 so it warms up nicely. Keep the cattle moving! Later. emoticon

I was actually happy to see the snow this year, the kids had been waiting for it. I just hope the weather stays mild for a while so we can really enjoy the snow without freezing our tails off. How do drink your chai tea? I hear it's good with cream and sugar, I wasn't a big fan of it plain.

Luckily we don't have snow yet in Ontario either. I was out in a tank top and jeans this afternoon, trying to get our trailer closed up before the snow flies.
Enjoy your tea.
