The happiest people don't have the best of everything..they just make the best of everything!!

Thursday, June 30, 2011

Hi all..I'm a bit late with this..it's yesterday's blog...but I'm in lazy "summer mode" now.

We went on a little road trip yesterday down to Plentywood, Mt and then Williston. ND...had a great time :) You see we were having a heat wave and our house has no air conditioning so the truck does...yaya it would be way cheaper to buy air for the house but not nearly as much fun :)

Meals out were quite reasonable and I had 2 huge glasses of unsweetened iced tea..love that in the States..if you order iced tea in Canada you only get the syrupy kind!! Really got my tea fix for the day. Also got a new lawn mower with a bag so I can haul it to the critters and hubby got machinery parts and a new truck tarp, etc...Also got some goodies for when the Granddaughters come in august for the 2 weeks of swim lessons...Welcome to camp grammy :)

It was still really hot when we got home..it was 96 in Williston and we got lightning and a wee bit of rain. Nothing severe, thank God!! Some places got hit. Hubby and rider are off to check the community herds for lightning strikes and I'll do the 4 home pastures after I get off the computer and do morning chores, etc.

That reminds me..I should sign off and get busy..thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

Love Donna emoticon emoticon

My quote for yesterday was ...The happiest people don't have the best of everything..they just make the best of everything...

I love it :) it's my motto as I do try to look on the positive and find humor in life. Hope you can make that choice, too....Keep on smiling :)

stay tuned for today's actual blog including a quick recap of June and a sneak peak at July....

The tea you can have as the tanic acid in it hurts my stomach. Jeff drings it by the gallon. You surely must think about getting some air conditioning. We have central air plus two window air conditioners. When the bedrooms get hot and we don't have the central on, it is nice to be able to sleep cool.
The bagger on the lawn mower will make things easier for you.
God bless you my friend

Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass..it's about learning to dance in the rain!!

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Hi all..wow 2 blogs in a row...I'm back :)
I found this coolest website that is like a book store but has all these inspirational short movies..with tons of quotes, and inspiration..just what I need to jump start summer!! It's called simpletruths.com

Check it out if you're looking for inspiration :) I'm going to find fav quotes and feature them in my blogs for summer...

As you might have noticed I finally got to tracking some of my fitness minutes..just bare minimum..like 60 minutes lawn mowing when I really did 3 hours..etc. My cold has started to get a bit better, so I've been a bit more active. Yesterday I weeded, worked and hilled all 9 rows of potatoes, also the sunflowers and corn and did some hand weeding, too. Today hubby was gone for a course for work so I did morning chores, quadded 4 home herds of cattle, did some laundry and washed 3 very caked on and muddy trucks. Then hubby and I went to town for mail and groceries and fuel...the postal strike is now over in Canada but not much mail has been sorted yet..got a couple things...for our mail "fix". We had a treat of small frosty coffee drinks for the road and I made chinese stir fry for supper.

I have quite a lot of left overs from the cousin picnic which is great for meal planninng...just have to make sure nothing spoils before we use it up. The leftover potato salad went to the cats as it doesn't keep. The marinated pasta salad will be good for days and the coleslaw with the hot dressing lasts for months. I made up little pkgs of the leftover sliced meats..roast beef, ham and salami and froze them. Also the beans are frozen...The fruit salad will last for awhile.

Well..I should Quit blogging for now...thanks for dropping by and keep on Sparkin'

Hard work never hurt anyone....till they tried to get out of bed the next morning. Me, I like that feeling. Being productive is important.
In one of my darker times a preacher said something to me that has stuck for better than thirty years. "without clouds we would never learn to appreciate sunshine". Your blog tile reminded me of that. God Bless emoticon

It's good to keep on Sparkin'. Enjoyed you blog very much. It kind of put me back ito my youth when we lived & worked on the farm. The days are never dull!! Do I miss all the hard work? Sometimes yes and others no. I did enjoy all the fresh foods we had from the garden and barnyards.

Where has June gone??

Monday, June 27, 2011

Hi..sorry it's been soo long since I blogged!! It's been a roller coaster of a June!!!

Some months I feel like I'm just treading water (pardon the pun) and this is one of them. I've been flooded with emotional and personal storms, some have passed, some not so much.

I have a terrible cold so head's not on straight but I have some time to catch up with my blog! I can't really do much physical stuff today altho I did work some in the garden after chores this morning. We're still bottle feeding the calf with a momma with not enough milk. Our cats are multiplying like crazy...my son was home a couple weeks ago and said kittens at the pet store were $200 each and then we have thousands of dollars of cats!!!

Yard work is quite out of control with the deluge of rain we've been getting. Some grass hasn't been mowed yet, the garden is growing great, but so are the weeds!! The basement is almost back to normal but the cement is still very damp even with the fans and dehumidifier going...at least we are better off than some places.

Hubby is still seeding..we put in oats for green feed and swath grazing which needs to be in by the middle of July. So far he hasn't gotten stuck too many times!

We went out for supper to Plentywood for our 34th Anniversary on June 11 and at the border they asked us like usual, where we were from, where we're going, etc. So hubby said we were going to Plentywood for supper for our Anniversary and the border patrol man said..oh, so you aren't cousins??? Haha.

The next weekend we went to Saskatoon for a wedding. Stayed the first night at son's house and while getting ready for the wedding I stepped on my glasses and broke them..I'm completely blind without them..son drove them to his optometrist and we finished getting ready, then he arrived at the last minute so I put on my specs and walked out the door....later after the wedding ceremony I realised I had my dress on backwards..not sure which is worse..having my dress backwards or that it fits backwards!!haha :) The wedding was beautiful :) We stayed at the hotel where the wedding was at. Then son and his girlfriend came over the next morning for Father's Day brunch ..Unfortunately he had his dirt bike stolen out of his truck that morning..the lock was cut :(

We've had a roller coaster with our daughter who is still very, very depressed over her boyfriend breaking up with her...adult children can give you more heartache than babies...at least I have the tools from my therapist to not fall back into depression myself and my friends here on Spark have helped so much.

I came down with this cold last week after the slopitch game Wednesday night where I got all sweaty then sat outside after dark for a few hours and got really chilled :(

A little community near us had their 100th birthday celebration last weekend. I helped put together some of the photo display. All but 2 of my cousins on my Mom's side were home for the party as well as my 2 sisters. I provided a picnic lunch on Saturday for the family. We had a great time..we had a pancake breakfast, opening ceremonies, parade, picnic lunch, demo derby, tractor pull. beer gardens, KFC supper, cabaret with live band and a spectacular fireworks display!! Lots of visiting with family and friends!!! Now cold is way worse so I haven't done much yesterday or today. A neighbor called yesterday that a calf of ours was caught in our fence so since hubby was out seeding I took the quad to rescue him. A semi also stopped to help so she was freed safely and unharmed! a few days ago our horse was not so luck when he got tangled in wire and really shredded his back legs. Hubby has been spraying it with apple cider vinegar so hope he gets better!!

Next weekend is another 100th birthday party for the town next to us to the west!! We're scheduled to work at the beef supper, and a shift at the cabaret bar. Theirs is 4 days long :) Hope my cold is gone by then!!

I bought this cutest book called how to live in flip-flops by Sandy Gingras..it's going to be part of my July theme :) June is almost over and it feels a bit like another lost month so here's hoping July is the one to get back on track and live July in flip-flops....July's theme is always Freedom and summer....and on vacation even tho we don't always get away for a vacation....I like to make our staycation special...BBQs, camp fires (need to find my firepit) and swimming in a dugout. So lots of fresh fruits and veggies and exercise!! The physical work amps up in the summer.....

Hope you're all gearing up for a great summer...I want to thank everyone for all the comments, goodies and coming to my page even tho I've been MIA......I'll try to be blogging way more often now and stop by anytime for some "iced tea" or "sun tea" or what ever :)

I even have new tea ideas...have you heard these? cool, damp tea bags for under eye bags and also for sunburn...

Thanks for stopping by and keep on Sparkin'!!!

Love Donna

Loved this: talk about putting a dress on backwards, I can recall on one occasion being in such a rush I put my bra on backwards. Yup, really.

Happy anniversary (belated): we celebrated 32 this month ourselves.

Your life is busy busy busy: and when does the smooth sailing start, I keep wondering myself?? Not yet, apparently!!

Good to hear from you again. Sounds like you have been keeping very busy, as I figured you were. Also, sounds like you've been having some ups and downs. Isn't that always the way life goes?
Same here, but I try and turn the downs back into ups if possible. I'm finally learning to just take things one day at a time and not to stress over them.
Hope you feel better to enjoy the 100th B-Day celebration and your staycation summer.

Donna, I enjoy so much reading your blogs that when you don't blog for a while, I miss you. I know what you mean about where has June gone. It has rained here for the last two nights and it is supposed to rain some more. Jeff had the port put in today and his shoulder is a little sore and bruising but we were told to expect that. They can use the port tomorrow for drawing blood and as an Iv for the sedative.
I have not even been on the scales for the last two days everything has been too crazy and it slipped my mind. I weigh every day because of some of the meds I take, so I am not being a good girl ohh well, the devil made me do it.
God bless my friend

Cleaning up my flooded basement...

Thursday, June 09, 2011

Repeat after me..I love June, I love June..haha..I have the mess about half cleaned up, then we went to Weyburn for a while..bought gifts for MIL's birthday tomorrow and FIL's Father's day gift. Then we delivered them and had a visit and coffee. FIL is doing great with his double knee replacements but he has infection in one foot :(

Then we had supper out and on the way home looked at a new bull to replace the one that didn't pass yesterday...then back home to answer phone calls, work on clean up, watch the hockey game and catch up online...

Thanks for all the comments and for stopping by my blog..keep on Sparkin'

Talk to you tomorrow..

UGGG! I hope you haven't gotten crazy amounts of rain the last week. We've got lots up here but nothing like SE SK! Tho we have rainfall warnings today.

How are things? I've been away from SP for a bit, and now I need to catch up with everyone. Things have been good - just busy. Quite a few overnight work trips, kids events, busy weekends, unexpected injuries (my 14 year old fractured his leg playing football - just a minor fracture), gardening, etc. Work has been really busy which is good! We are getting a lot of committees and projects started and I'm finding lots of enthusiastic people to work with.

So very very glad you got together with your friends for a late birthday party. That was really special. Sorry about the bull, bet he didn't know he was due for replacement.
Have to go Dear Friend

Semen tested bulls in the pouring rain...

Wednesday, June 08, 2011

Hi just a quick blog...it's been raining all day and we have over 2 " already... we hauled the bulls over to the government corrals to semen test and we almost got stuck with the stock trailer. All but one bull passed so we'll have to use our spare bull this year, too.

I had a great time at the late birthday tea party..my friends brought cake and strawberries and raspberries...yum yum..and lots of gifts, too..plants, journals, body wash, lotion, solar lights, a wind chime and scented wick room freshener :)
Wow, hey..they are such special friends. We had a great visit over several cups of tea.

With all this rain our basement flooded but I'm too tired to deal with it tonight, it'll still be wet in the morning...

Well, better call it a night..thanks for stopping by and keep on Sparkin' :)

I'm not going to ask you how they semen test a bull, haha! Hi Donna, Happy Belated Birthday! I'm glad your best friends came over for a party to celebrate it with you, Sweetie. I was just reading through your May recap -- you're so active! Way more than me, though I'd like to be doing more physical work, like you -- I'm doing a lot of paperwork on the job. I've got a tea for you... it's seriously pricey so I only bought it once. It's from Republic of Tea and it's called Double Chocolate Mate. MMMM Yum!

Happy June!

Are your bulls Angus? My bulls have been out since May 10th and everyone passed their test now my job is to make sure they keep moving around with the cows rather than picking just a few girlfriends. All are young bulls tho' and they always seem busy!!

Hope the basement dries out emoticon
