Home from a mini road trip :)

Sunday, April 24, 2011

Hi..we just got home from a mini road trip to Williston, North Dakota. It was a beautiful spring day and we had a great time. When we got home we had a new baby so only 10 left to calve..

Son and girlfrined were home for a short time..arrived at 11:00 pm Thursday, left a 6:45 am Friday..off for a road trip of their own with girlfriend's parents to Minot. Then we did a bit of chores..dealt with a sick cow, etc then off to the neighbor's to helop them move..arrived around 9 am like they tod us but they had started a 8:30 and were almost completly loaded when we got there :( Then they were waiting around for the people they were trading houses with to load up their stuff...we went home to do some more of the chores, etc and they phoned and said they were almost all unlaoded..so it takes us half an hour to drive to town so we didn't bother going in..they had lots of help anyway. I'm still very depressed to be around people.....

Today's 3 mini goals..

nutrition...had a healthy breakfast and shared most of my gems from lunch and the fries from supper with hubby...

active living..went for a walk this morning and shopped til I dropped this afternoon at Super Walmart :)

self care...the road trip was really fun and I found lots of bargains..gotta love bargains..$1 sweat shirts, $3 yoga pants (bought 2 pair..one grey and one navy) 3-$3 bras, some $1 panties, $12 dollar runners and 5 pairs of jeans..they were all under $20 and tall besides..in Canada it's really hard to find tall jeans and they usually cost $20 more or so than regular length so this was a great find. All in Size 14. Also got a few groceries, some new towels and some odds and ends.

We'll be having a quiet Easter since we had early Easter last weekend and saw son a few days ago. Hope you all have a great Easter..thanks for stopping by..keep on Sparkin'!!!

Sounds like you had an enjoyable day. I always like to shop and some times when I shop I even come home empty handed, but at least I got to look at everything. Thought of you today as the Hubby and i sat out in the back yard. We don't have the scenery as seen in my background and there was quite a bit of traffic on the highway, but as the shrubs and trees get larger some of that noise and sight is eliminated. We put the poles in the holes that had been dug. Next week, I will mix up the concrete around and let it set. The next job on that will be to paint the 4x4 and get the plastic lattice that I want to put on the three sides and across the top. The grape vines are starting to show new growth so I had better get busy.
God bless

Having a so, so day...

Thursday, April 21, 2011

Hi..when I was out checking cattle this morning I was counting how many left to calve and we have 11 left...then we went to town and Weyburn and when we got home one of the lettle calves that was a few days old, and I just checked this morning was dead in the corral :(
We hate to loose them! Everyone that dies is a big drop in our income :(

I made some more hot cross buns for when son and girl friend get her tonight..they have to leave tomorrow around 8 am so thought I'd make scrambled eggs and hot cross buns for breakfast. They'll get here around 10:30 tonight...

We visited hubby's Aunt in the health center after lunch..she's doing better than we first heard. Then went on to Weyburn and hubby needed a few things, then out for supper. I baked some cookies when I got home and put away groceries and did some laundry.

Today's 3 mini goals..

nutrition...had a light lunch and ordered a grilled chicken breast and ceasar salad and left half the salad for supper

active living..walked for 30 minutes

self care...did something nice for someone..visited Aunt in health canter and brought her a bouquet of flowers to bighten her room since she has to be there over Easter..also got 4 new magazines in the mail and one from the store!!

Thanks for stopping by..will be having beer instead of tea..with son and hockey game..and I'll be extra tired since we will stay up late and then be off to help neighbors move tomorrow morning...that will be lots of active living!!!

Keep on Sparkin'

Love Donna..Happy Earth Day tomorrow (I've still been working on my green..)

Sorry about the little calf. I would make pets out of them if I owned a cattle ranch so each one would break my heart when something happened. Glad to hear your doing well. Hope you have a good Easter. emoticon

Sorry about the little one. You sure have a lot on your plate the next day or two. I have never made hot cross buns and really don't i will start now. One of my big downfalls is baked good of any kind. With any type of hot bread being among the top.
God bless, my friend

Getting my spark back...

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Hi today for my 3 mini goals...

nutrition...healthy breakfast and tracked it on the tracker :)

active living...rode my exercise bike for 15 mins today :)

self care...went on a couple tours with hubby to the community pasture and checked some fence..still lots under snow so we won't be fencing for awhile, then over to the oil site with the government man to check damage etc..he took pictures and will contact the oil company on our behalf :) Also watched a bunch of hockey games..one is in double overtime as I type this, and did some net surfing etc, also visited with a friend on the phone...

How has your week been going..it's getting busy here so that helps me keep my mind off my stress. I'm trying to get back on track with spark and it's coming....

Calving is winding down..less than 15 left so things are going fine.

Well..I think I should go for now and try to get to bed early..I'm proud of myself, I got spark points, tracked some food and exercise...maybe tomorrow I'll have some tea..I think it's time to pull out my favorite cute tea pot :)

Thanks for stopping by and for all your support and comments :) keep on Sparkin'

Can't join you for tea as I have broken my teapot. I have two in the truck waiting to be brought in and I keep forgetting. I had better get them in before I get them broken.
I haad a good laugh about your mish mash plants. You will have to work up an area just for them and name it mish mash guess.
You sound so much more upbeat and it makes my heart glad. By the way, thanks for the Easter Card, it gave me another laugh of delight today. Thank you.
My son's fiance's father passed away last night so I am going to have to go through my closets and see if I have any thing that fits to wear to a memorial service. I talked with her for a little bit this evening and she is doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances.
You have pretty good luck with all your babies. You have not lost that many and that is great. The other 15 will be here before you know it.
God's blessings

I'm ready for that tea time with you also. Sometimes it's hard to spend to much time on SP. but exercising is more important than computer time anyway, right?
Take care of yourself.

I think you must have had about the same kind of day that we had today, at least when I checked the Weyburn weather stats it looked close to ours. It was nice to get some sun and a bit of warmth. Yay!! Nice weather one day in a row... Now back to our regular programming...

I like that you are feeling more positive and getting back to Spark.

I hope tomorrow is a good day for you.

Dare I say..I think it's spring...???

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Hi..we had a beautiful spring day today :) Nothing like nice weather to lift spirits. We had 3 more calves today so winding down nicely...took the books to the accountant..in Canada we have till April 30 to do taxes so its not totally last minute...also got the up dated farm account program for doing books on the computer...and need to get busy with 2011 books..yuck!! I've been thinking of trying a free online computer class to learn some skills..anyone know a good one to recommend?

We picked up our salt order today in town so the unloading it was the days work out.. unloading 50 salt blocks weighing 45 pounds each and some bags of minerals... working those muscles!!

On to my 3 mini goals...

nutrition..had soup in town today for lunch..chicken rice and veggies :)

active living...see the salt unloading above :)

self care...trip to town, lunch out, new magazine from town, found a new web site Supportgroups.com...it has sooo much info and support on it ..almost as good as Spark but not quite :)

Talked to my son on the phone tonight, during intermission of the hockey game!! Hubby's out checking cows. We went over to the oil site and were very disappointed to find the dirt berm around the lease has been washed away in 2 places and the mud, rocks and garbage has all washed into some of our hay sloughs..this oil company is really starting to pi$$ me off!!! Hopefully no oil or salt water has been washed into the slough too!!

Well tomorrow will be mostly dealing with this latest oil wreck...on and on it goes :(

I've been feeling not so great with a sore back and chest pains..combo of stress..my cold and the salt I imagine...Hope I can get a good night's sleep :)

Well..thanks for stopping by, keep on Sparkin'

Love Donna emoticon

Thanks for all your comments..they all help me feel better emoticon

ssshhh !!! don't speak the word spring too loudly. Horrible snow storm here in BC yesterday. The cows did not know what the heck was up. All those tiny little blades of grass and buttercups covered in snow - like what the heck is up with that???
Are you finished calving - done for me - thank goodness. Cow calf sale yesterday and prices where $1800 plus per pair emoticon should have been selling rather than trying to buy

Spring, yay! Puts a spring in the step for sure!

Love your idea of "choosing" what not to be good at. Cleaning would be high on my list. But I am domestically challenged at pretty much everything domestic actually!!

Always always always have flowers on my kitchen table -- and generally in my bedroom or beside my computer too. That's about as far as it goes, however!!

I hope your spring stays, ours keeps going away. The flowers are so confused they aren't sure when to bloom.
Take care and get some rest.

Know what happened when I commented on my feed that I thought it was spring? It SNOWED!!!!

One good thing about the cold weather, it slows the snow melt and the runoff. Water levels are going down...slowly.

I hope you have a nice, warm day tomorrow.

You sound a lot more upbeat. My muscles are aching just thinking about what you did today with the blocks of salt and minerals.
About the computer program, I have found that I learn more by just doing on my own. I have take three or four courses so far and all that they have done is confuse me with technical jargon that does not stay with me.
If you get a good program for taxes and etc, they will take you through a tutorial step by step. Do it more than ance if you have to and you will learn more than if you took a class, or so it is with me.
Glad you like my background. Wanted something special for Easter, but not for the whole month of April. Next week, I will start to think about May flowers. Have decided to plant some flowers our amond the onions so that as I use them as green onions the area under the tree will fill in with some thing else. Maybe a combination of peppers and flowers. I will have to do some research to see if I think peppers will do well in that area.
Blessings
Barb

7 days without Sparking makes one weak....

Monday, April 18, 2011

Hi..I'm back again after a very hectic week...recovered after the birthday party for my 2 best friends, got everything ready for early Easter, went to neighbors farm auction sale, had company for the whole weekend, visited the triplets, had early Easter yesterday with all the trimmings..turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, hot cross buns and my world famous coconut cream pies..only gained one pound all weekend :) Even with the big bunch of Easter treats my mother-in-law brought out (Ohenry eggs are my weakness!!) We have had 3 days of snow showers to make things miserable here still. We're on the downward slide with the calving..less than 20 to go :)

I was seriously wondering why I was having Easter here since I'm still not up to it..I found I didn't even really enjoy the company..it's just the depression, I know, and feel mostly drained to boot. Made an appointment to see a therapist next week so looking forward to that :)

We spent the morning tagging and turning out some pairs and had leftovers for lunch. Hubby is feeding bales now and I'm vegging on the couch. Been watching hockey most nights.. thank God for the playoffs or I'd have hockey withdrawal..haha!

My 3 mini goals for today are...

nutrition..had a healthy salad with my ham sandwich for lunch

active living..spent 2 hours sorting, chasing, tagging and turning out cow calf pairs through almost top of the rubber boot slop so..I'd call that a work out!!

self care..made the therapist appointment, spent time surfing the web (or can that be under active living?) also did some sparkin'

emoticon

Thanks for dropping by, keep on Sparkin'..

That's great you've got an appointment with the therapist. Hopefully that will start to help.

I missed you while you weren't being active on this site. Honey it sounds like you are having a big and prolonged case of the winter blahs. Just the thought of the weather you are facing depresses me. All I have to contend with are severe storms with lots of thunder boomers and the serious threat of tornadoes. In between times though, the sun does come out and I have been able to get some things done in the yard. It will come, Donna, it will come. I know that right now you would probably like to knock me in the head for saying that when there seems to be no real break for you. Go ahead and bonk away, On the news tonight it showed that Chicago had three inches of snow again. When I saw and heard that I instantly thought of you and how you were faring and if the same system had brought you more snow.
Keep sparkin and good luck with the therapist. I might have to borrow him/her in the near future. Will tell you more later. Want to get my blog written and get off to bed otherwise I am going to sit here and do stinkin thinkin.
God bless
