101 calves...

Thursday, April 07, 2011

Hi..I spent most of the day helping with cattle and went to town for supplies and had lunch out.

I'm doing 3 small daily goals
Nutrition
Active Living
Self Care..
and borrowing Bigbadmommabear for my drill sergeant...

So today's goals..nutrition..ordered a grilled chicken breast and a tossed salad for lunch

active living...spent hours and hours working with the cattle today..checking, sorting, tagging, treating and turning out..also taking twine off bales and working on getting a culvert open so the water would quit going over the road..

self care..back at spark..stayed connected with family and friends..got 2 new magazines in the mail and spent some time reading and relaxing...

It feels like spring today..hope this weather is here to stay!!! Keep on Sparkin' Thanks for stopping by for a chat..maybe tomorrow I'll brew some tea :)

Love Donna emoticon

April....

Tuesday, April 05, 2011

Hi..I've missed you all so much..It's been hell here and I need to find my way back. I'm not coping very well...too much work, too much winter, too much stress. I'm having a family crisis and helping a family member struggle with depression has drained me...

I said to my sister..I feel like an old dish rag that's been all squeezed out and rolled into a ball and thrown under the sink to mildew...she told me I should write poetry :)

I could use any encouragement possible...

On a brighter note we do have 99 calves already, hubby took a load of cattle to market today so I'm holding down the fort. These were cattle that have lost their calves or are open or are late so it leaves about 30 ish to calve. We had another big blizzard on the weekend and a possible storm again in a few days?? The experts are saying this is one of the 3 worse winters on record..I agree!!!

I really need to get back on track..I've blown all my streaks and I've been going back to bad habits and I feel really lousy. I know if anything can help it will be all my new friends here.. time for me to put my rally cap on...

Maybe do a recap of March's goals? nah that's too depressing..I should just spring right into April's....I'm open for suggestions..I've already given up giving up ice cream for lent..comfort food :(.....

Thanks for always being here even when I wasn't...

Love Donna

I hope things will get better for you soon. I've been wondering how you've been doing with the calving and this weather. The last couple of storms sort of missed us, we were pretty much on the western edge of them.

Since the town I live in is pretty flat, there is water everywhere. I have been parking half a block away from my house where there is firmer ground. And of course there's mud...

I hope you have a better week.

38 calves so far...

Monday, March 21, 2011

Hi..I missed blogging yesterday so I might as well blog 2 times tonight :) First I posted some pics of the babies..we're up to 38 calves so far..we had 5 calves yesterday and 4 today..

It's supposed to be spring but we woke up to snow!!

Yesterday we spent lots of time on chores and getting stalls ready for more pairs. Then went to see son and his girlfriend at a hockey draft tournament so we had a rink burger and a pitcher of beer for supper along with a visit. For lunch I finished my cabbage soup and had toasted whole wheat bread with some avocado.

Today's meals were eggs and toast for lunch and chicken and corn and a spinach salad for supper. Today I helped with chores and then cleaned 2 big stalls out.. I couldn't find how to enter 400 reps of lift a forkful of manure (approx 20+ pounds) and walk with it the length of the barn and throw it out the door.. so I just called it farm work...

I'm very tired tonight..so just watching some tv and sparkin' ..I'm even too tired to make tea..I'll take the 11 or 12 pm check, then off to bed..

Thanks for stopping by for a chat and if you haven't checked out the baby calf pics..they're on the blog before this one...

Keep on Sparkin'....

Love the pics. Try not to get too overtired. Farmwork is very hard and tiring. I know, I've helped with some over the years.
I wrote a blog earlier but hit a wrong button and it all disappeared and did not feel like composing another one.
Just wanted to check in and make sure things were ok. Hope the weather straightens out for you before long. Ours finally is and it is glorious.

Looks like you are getting the same storm we are. We are under both a flood watch and a blizzard warning. Supposed to get 4-6 inches from tonight through Wednesday. I hope it's less than that...

Hope you don't have any problems with your babies tonight or tomorrow.

Be warm.

Hi..we have 29 calves now..dang forgot my camera again!!!

Friday, March 18, 2011

Yesterday was a quick trip to the city to get some supplies for hubby..he phoned all the places to make sure they had what he needed and I was frustrated at two of the places ..when I got there they didn't have the stuff!! Canadian Tire had 2 chain saws on sale in their computer but the kid couldn't find it!! Most of the time we shop there we are very unsatisfied!! Was afraid hubby would have a melt down but he actually just joked about how much money I saved..go figure!! Usually he's a grumpy bear during calving and lack of sleep!! I did get most of the stuff he needed!! And a few things for me..

..I found these cool lime green cleaning cloths (enviro friendly) and some new window cleaner..not so enviro friendly but it sure cleans good!! I went around today washing all the mirrors and windows, inside and out and then appliances..
I think I need help..

I got home at 5 to 6 last night so supper was still beef roast, since I put that on before I left, but for sides I had instant mashed potatoes, stir fried cabbage and micro mixed veggies..I made the key lime pie before I left..graham crust, lime jello with 1/2 the water, 1/2 package of low fat cream cheese and some cool whip and grated lime peel...when I got home I put some cool whip on top and grated some more lime peel..yum yum..hope you all enjoyed St Patrick's Day..I also had a lime beer for bed time snack..

Today after chores we went to town for lunch..I had a grilled chicken breast on a bun with a tossed salad and coffee..I also dropped off the sandwiches for the funeral lunch, we got mail, the car tire, some cash out of the ATM, took plastic to the recycling and got drinking water on the way home..we never go to town for just one thing..gotta think green!!!

This afternoon and tonight we worked on the corrals and feed some more bales, tagged some calves...moved a big panel hubby made from the shop to the coarrals, foound a cow that had a dead calf..she's still uncomfortable so maybe she's having twins, otherwise we'll probably put one twin on her..deaths are inevitable but we do hate to loose a calf :(

Supper was fish sticks, sweet potato and green beans and the rest of the pie...

We did get lots of lots of mail and I got 3 magazines in the mail..after I blog and track I'll be reading until my turn for the night check..

Well, thanks for stopping by for a chat...off to make green tea..Keep on sparkin'

Love Donna emoticon

Donna was pleased to hear about your daughter. Just remember to let go and let God You sound like me never a moment wasted. I try to keep busy, but none of what I do HAS to be done. I had a surround sound given to me and now I have to figure out how to hook it up. My daughter has one hooked up so it basically should be the same so if I go look at hers I should be able to do this one.
All of the yellow onion sets are now planted and also some more lettuce. I just sprinkled the lettuce seed in with the onions. That should look pretty good under the tree. I want to see about sprouting some marigold seeds so that when it comes time for those kind of plants I will have enought to plant where I want.
I was up at one this morning and cleaned out another closet and have two more big trash bags full of clothes to take out to the truck and keep for the Clothes Line. The Lord has blessed me with so many new ones that I need to let the old ones go. It is hard for me to do that with some of them because they were favorites to wear, but they are all getting big so it is more than time to tell them good bye. Went back to bed about three and slept for a few more hours.
Not much else is going on. I have the laundry in the dryer or at least half of it and will be finishing it up here before long. It seems as though it take so much time to get the jeans dry.
I have some potatoes that have sprouted and I may take them out and plant them in the tires I have stacked for Potato growing. I did not do any last year, but did the year before and had quite a few to use. The tires, I have painted white so they make a good yard ornament.
I need to water the seedlings I have here in the house and also check my sweet potatoes. Looks as though right now I will have about a dozen slips to go planted after I get them rooted. Will be interesting as I have never grown them before.
Sorry to hear about the calf. I know what you mean about losing some. You know there is a reason for it, but it is still hard to accept. Sounds like you hubby is coming out of the winter doldrums and having a spring fling. It makes a difference.
God bless you my dear friend
Barb
