Hi..we have 29 calves now..dang forgot my camera again!!!

Friday, March 18, 2011

Yesterday was a quick trip to the city to get some supplies for hubby..he phoned all the places to make sure they had what he needed and I was frustrated at two of the places ..when I got there they didn't have the stuff!! Canadian Tire had 2 chain saws on sale in their computer but the kid couldn't find it!! Most of the time we shop there we are very unsatisfied!! Was afraid hubby would have a melt down but he actually just joked about how much money I saved..go figure!! Usually he's a grumpy bear during calving and lack of sleep!! I did get most of the stuff he needed!! And a few things for me..

..I found these cool lime green cleaning cloths (enviro friendly) and some new window cleaner..not so enviro friendly but it sure cleans good!! I went around today washing all the mirrors and windows, inside and out and then appliances..
I think I need help..

I got home at 5 to 6 last night so supper was still beef roast, since I put that on before I left, but for sides I had instant mashed potatoes, stir fried cabbage and micro mixed veggies..I made the key lime pie before I left..graham crust, lime jello with 1/2 the water, 1/2 package of low fat cream cheese and some cool whip and grated lime peel...when I got home I put some cool whip on top and grated some more lime peel..yum yum..hope you all enjoyed St Patrick's Day..I also had a lime beer for bed time snack..

Today after chores we went to town for lunch..I had a grilled chicken breast on a bun with a tossed salad and coffee..I also dropped off the sandwiches for the funeral lunch, we got mail, the car tire, some cash out of the ATM, took plastic to the recycling and got drinking water on the way home..we never go to town for just one thing..gotta think green!!!

This afternoon and tonight we worked on the corrals and feed some more bales, tagged some calves...moved a big panel hubby made from the shop to the coarrals, foound a cow that had a dead calf..she's still uncomfortable so maybe she's having twins, otherwise we'll probably put one twin on her..deaths are inevitable but we do hate to loose a calf :(

Supper was fish sticks, sweet potato and green beans and the rest of the pie...

We did get lots of lots of mail and I got 3 magazines in the mail..after I blog and track I'll be reading until my turn for the night check..

Well, thanks for stopping by for a to make green tea..Keep on sparkin'

Donna was pleased to hear about your daughter. Just remember to let go and let God You sound like me never a moment wasted. I try to keep busy, but none of what I do HAS to be done. I had a surround sound given to me and now I have to figure out how to hook it up. My daughter has one hooked up so it basically should be the same so if I go look at hers I should be able to do this one.
All of the yellow onion sets are now planted and also some more lettuce. I just sprinkled the lettuce seed in with the onions. That should look pretty good under the tree. I want to see about sprouting some marigold seeds so that when it comes time for those kind of plants I will have enought to plant where I want.
I was up at one this morning and cleaned out another closet and have two more big trash bags full of clothes to take out to the truck and keep for the Clothes Line. The Lord has blessed me with so many new ones that I need to let the old ones go. It is hard for me to do that with some of them because they were favorites to wear, but they are all getting big so it is more than time to tell them good bye. Went back to bed about three and slept for a few more hours.
Not much else is going on. I have the laundry in the dryer or at least half of it and will be finishing it up here before long. It seems as though it take so much time to get the jeans dry.
I have some potatoes that have sprouted and I may take them out and plant them in the tires I have stacked for Potato growing. I did not do any last year, but did the year before and had quite a few to use. The tires, I have painted white so they make a good yard ornament.
I need to water the seedlings I have here in the house and also check my sweet potatoes. Looks as though right now I will have about a dozen slips to go planted after I get them rooted. Will be interesting as I have never grown them before.
Sorry to hear about the calf. I know what you mean about losing some. You know there is a reason for it, but it is still hard to accept. Sounds like you hubby is coming out of the winter doldrums and having a spring fling. It makes a difference.
God bless you my dear friend

Spoke too soon about one calf yesterday!!

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Hi..after I was done blogging last night I went out for the 11 pm check and 2 cows had twins!! Off to get hubby to help put them in the barn...cold again last night and today with a definitely un-spring -like wind and a bit of snow flurries!! So we had 5 calves yesterday and 2 today so far...helped with chores..tagged calves..both sets of twins are doing fine :) Gotta remember my camera on one of these many trips to the barn/corral!!

I'm in to make a quick lunch..I'm having green soup and making quick chili for hubby..thanks goodness I have pre-browned burger packages frozen for just such a quick meal...

Then I guess I'm off to Weyburn to get supplies...also need to make sandwiches for a funeral in town tomorrow...

By the way..Happy St Patrick's Day...we're having roast beef and boiled cabbage, potatoes and carrots for supper and my plans are a key lime pie if I get that far?

Well The Luck of the Irish to you...have a wee bit of fun..and go GREEN..(I'm already looking forward to my green beer for tonight!!

Probably shouldn't have had the beer last night..when hubby was helping put the cows in I fell in the a big water run and the cows went one on each side of me!! At least they didn't step on me or kick me, it was pretty scary and now I'm quite sore!! The hazards of being a klutz around cows!! When I was bottle feeding the baby yesterday I cow tried to get me while I was in her stall..Hubby was in the barn..I screamed and screamed and she left me alone,,but hubby said now the cow is deaf..Besides the poor calf being blind!!

It's always an adventure here!! Take care and Keep on Sparkin'..Thanks for stopping time bring your rubber boots and a pitch fork..we could use some help..haha.

Love Donna

your blogs always make me feel better and give me a smile. I was not feeling bad or anything, but you give me a quiet chuckle and a laugh. I feel sorry for the deaf cow and the blind calf LOL You hubby must be quite a jokester.
I really appreciate you visiting my blog and leaving me little notes. I am ashamed that I have been negligent about getting yours done, but I do think of you often and wonder how the calves and cows are getting along.
God bless

Wow!! Nothing kinda dreamy and poetic about the whole spring birth thing, is there: lots and lots of hard work. Blood, sweat, tears, and maybe a few screams!!

You deserve that green beer, no question: maybe two!!

Yes, definitely take some pictures and post them in your spare time. HaHa! Like you have a lot of spare time with all the St. Patricks babies being born every day.
Sorry your cold weather kicked in again. It would be nice to have some spring now. We're expecting rain after today for at least 5 days. Ugh! I'm ready for sunshine everyday now.
Be careful around the cows, I know how you feel, I have fallen close to my horse and she got spooked, luckily she jumped the opposite way, but it is dangerous.

Happy St. Pattys Day! emoticon

Only one new calf today...

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Hi..just a quick blog..we had 5 calves yesterday and only one so far today...we did lots of chores and moved a bunch of gates and panels around to make new pens..definitely weight lifting!! Also chopped some ice to speed some melting... It's beautiful here now..Hello Spring :) "played" in the water some and I scraped some ice out of the shop. We tagged some calves too and all we have left in the barn is the little calf that I've been bottle feeding..only gave him one bottle today as he's starting to nurse better from his mom :) So the total number of calves so far is 20.

That was my exercise for the day..spent almost all day outside with the cows!! Lunch was my green Irish cabbage soup with an egg sandwich and a yogurt; supper was an oven baked pork chop, 1/4 sweet potato, green peas, spinach salad with mushrooms...dessert was a yummy green pear :) Snacks today were an orange and a couple oatmeal and raisin cookies..still deciding if I'm having green tea or green beer for my night snack..hubby's bringing me a green beer so beer it is....

Now time to just relax with my beer, do some Sparkin'..

Thanks for dropping by for a chat and to hear about down on the farm...Keep on Sparkin'

Hey Donna Hope calving is going well. I am almost done YAHOO only about 30 head left. Sun is shining, snow is melting and life is good.

You are so right about being outside - time just races by when you are busy out there and you wonder where the day went.

Take care and good luck with the rest of the "gals".

We have 19 calves now...March recap...

Wednesday, March 16, 2011's been a busy day with lots of chores..and more calves...We are up to 19 now..just had another one tonight..for those who asked we have 140 cows to calve although the first one had a set of dead twins and hubby will be selling 7 or 8 late or open we have a long way to go..usually takes about 1 1/2 months for most of the calves to be born. we like them mostly finished by fencing season when we aren't in the yard much to check them..with our own fences and the community pasture fences we have around 100 miles of fence to fix each spring.. we start in late April...We used to calve in February and sell pure bred bulls but don't do that any more.

I had my Irish cabbage soup for lunch with a whole wheat toast with avocado on it..yumyum...Supper was beef stir fry with tons of veggies..onions, celery, carrots, green peppers, mushrooms and cabbage :) Had fruit and yogurt for snacks and dessert and broke down and ate another mint brownie..I have had the munchies today...probably from all the fresh air and chores!!

I dropped a gate on my foot today and it really hurts..see..I'm a klutz!! On a brighter's starting to turn green!! haha!!! I gave our little calf several bottles today..2 this morning, 2 this afternoon and 2 this evening so at least he has a healthy appetite, hubby thinks he may be blind besides having a deformed nose..

Now for the March update...goals going great :)

emoticonHealthy green foods...lots of green fruits and veggies, made weekly green soup for lunches, had lots of green tea..having a cup right now :)
I like to have sugar free gum to help eat less and I found yummy key lime pie it's good!! Can only buy it in the States so I see a Montana or North Dakota next month!!

emoticonLots of exercise..yeah..chores , night checks, helping with he cows!!

emoticonGo green..reduce.reuse.recycle...been doing my garbage sorting and have cut down my kitchen trash 2 one little bag every 2 weeks, rest is recycled, paper in stove, recycling to's fun to be green...always looking for ways to be greener!!! ice cream..yes..I don't even lick the spoon when I dish up hubby's!!!

emoticonMarch madness...declutter house and 31 bags of stuff gone..great job..working on basement and am way ahead of schedule!!!

emoticonRefresh spark page..I went green of course!! and the northern lights I love to see them at cow checks..hubby said they were out one night already but I missed them, lots of stars, tho!! Also added a pic to my page of hubby and me!!

emoticonMake collage..not yet...

emoticonGet green..wear green yes, got my green place mats out and I bought a little jade plant!!

emoticonBe kind/do something nice..try to do something nice each day...

emoticonDo some spring cleaning ..yes in basement..haven't gone back to painting yet!!

emoticonFollow my dream to give up some extra baggage off me..I am just about back to my tracker!!!

Well I'm happy with my progress and have really been helping out with calving and chores lots!! Been relaxing with my green tea and my green bubble baths.. Thanks for stopping by for a chat and a cup of tea!!

    A green foot? Ouch.

I'm thinking you need a (seriously alcoholic) "green drink" to take away the pain: and here are some possibilities from this morning's Globe and Mail!!

Just one calf today...

Monday, March 14, 2011 was a quieter day today so I got a few things caught up. I made my Irish cabbage, carrot, beef and barley is yummy!! Had it with a ham sandwich for lunch..I got out my meat slicer and thin-deli style cut up the ham.
Supper was burgers..I had mine with out a bun and with a big spinach, mushroom and green pepper salad and some peas and a small serving of macaroni. I made hubby some layered mint brownies and had to sample them too. Seemed like I did a lot of dishes today!!

We had only one calf today..I helped hubby get it in the barn, it feels like spring but the wind was chilly. One of the calves born yesterday has part of his nose missing so I've been giving him some bottles to keep him going...

I went to town for the mail, mail hubby's pasture stuff, bring the tire in to get a new one, and stopped at the drugstore for a few magazines.

Now I'm taking a few minutes to get caught up on Spark and blog tonight... Thanks for stopping by for a chat and a cup of tea..I'm gonna make a little pot of green tea...and watch some tv..until the 11 pm night check...

Take care and keep on Sparkin'

Love Donna

Tomorrow I hope to do a March update..been going green alot :)
