First calf born last night...

Sunday, March 06, 2011

Hi..luckily the first cow to calve was one of the close ones we put in the barn last night :) So it's toasty warm since it's still really cold here and more fresh snow too. I helped move some animals around and then sort off 2 more to keep the barn and new calf warm...

We went to town today for had been quite awhile..and we went out for lunch...a treat for hubby since he won't venture too far from home for March..we were just gone for an hour and a half...

Been spending quite a quiet Sunday...still feeling quite blue..need to get my green back. I did have a green bubble bath and am wearing a green shirt, had a spinach salad for supper with my chicken and sweet I'm even drinking green beer (bud light lime)

Well..should go for now..thanks for all your comments and for stopping by for a chat :)

I was so excited when I read about the calf. I really should have stayed on the farm and been a farmers wife. Things like baby chicks and etc are so fascinating to me. Last year I hatched out over 2 dozen chicks and then wound up giving all away and taking down everything. I was doing the chickens for the grandkids for 4H and last year they placed quite well, but they were not ever here to take care of anything and then only grumbled when they were here, so I gave everything away and now you can't even tell where they had been here in the yard.
Don't let all the circumstances get you down. Trust in the Lord he still works miracles today. You are blessed and a blessing
God bless you my friend

Awww...So sweet, I wish I could come and help with those baby calves. We have some cows (not ours)in the pasture behind our house and I love to watch them. Last spring there were a couple of babies. It was fun to watch them play with each other.

And...Go Green! emoticon emoticon

Having baby animal sure brings back memories of our hobby farm
Baby chicks and pigs never had cows
Enjoy they grow up so fast and although lots of work they are worth the effort

Another quick blog......

Saturday, March 05, 2011

Still no calves but we bedded the lean-to and put in 2 close cows and a heifer for a barn warmer...we cut some wood up until the chainsaw broke down..boy it seems everything is going wrong...I'm having personal problems with one of my daughters, too that has me very blue :(

I'm gradually getting back to the weight on my I just have to focus all this negative energy onto something other than working out!! I rode my bike for 30 minutes and helped with chores as usual. It's son's birthday today so phoned him.

The green goals are coming along great..I'm wearing a green sweat shirt, been snacking on pistachios and green grapes..had spinach salad for lunch and supper and am off to make a pot of green tea...

The recipe for the pea and potato chowder was simple...cook a chopped onion in a bit of olive oil, then add 4 cups liquid..broth or water ( I put some instant chicken broth powder with water) and 1 cup diced potato..cook until potato is tender then add 2 cups frozen green peas and bring to a boil again...scoop out one cup of the veggies and puree the rest ..add veggies back and stir in 1/2 cup milk and fresh mint if you have it..I just added some pepper since I didn't have mint It was yummy :)

Well, off to make my tea..or maybe something stronger...thanks for stopping by..keep on sparkin' and remember to go green... emoticon

Love Donna emoticon

PS my friend's daughter had her triplets yesterday and all are doing great..grandma just phoned me again with the names...all three are little boys emoticon emoticon emoticon

I hope that your animals can hold off calving until this weather breaks a little. Looks like your temps are about like ours, but that you have a bit more wind. It's actually pretty calm here today. I need to haul some stuff to the dump and also feed my compost pile (if I can get to it!!). It is a really nice, sunshiny day. Supposed to start warming Tuesday.

I hope that you and your daughter can resolve your differences.

Quick blog...

Friday, March 04, 2011

Hi..hubby's tractor is still broke should be here by Tuesday, have to come from Winnipeg. Luckily it was warm enough to start the lettle tractor which was outside and feed cows with that. I helped take off twine and help with heifers and hang a gate.

I rode bike for 30 minutes. We had company this morning and felt like I was on the phone for most of the day.

Keeping with my green theme for the month I made a pea and potato chowder for my soup this week. I have tons of gren veggies in the fridge now since my shopping trip yesterday.

Thanks for all the comments..any one who wants to use my goals..I'm the way I probably borrowed a few along the way tea is included in the first goal :) I did buy green bubble's grape seed and lemongrass..yumyum.

Well better head to bed..keep on Sparkin'

Good night everyone, Love Donna emoticon

I love it! You are always so creative!! You've inspired me to do some reflection today and set some March goals. I think I completely missed setting February goals and that's probably why I have not been doing very good lately!

No calves yet? they are smart and waiting for the warmer weather, the neighbour has 17 now, started with an early bunch in Feb, 2 sets of twins so far, all healthy, strong lil buggers!! Was watching the first bunch born yesterday play in the falling snow, it was milder then it had been so they were kicking up their hooves and running around full speed to the wind. Sure drains the stress away when you watch baby animals at play!

Awesome March Goals!!! You can do it :)
