Trip to Regina and new Chai tea...

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Hi..we're home from a fun trip to Regina and I'm making a little pot of Chai tea, I've never had it before and we're watching hockey..Oilers vs The Kings..tied at 2 in the 2nd :) Go Edmonton....

It was quite cold here again. I helped hubby with chores, taking twine off bales so we could get to Regina by lunch at my sister's. We had a great visit, brother-in-law even asked me if I've lost weight? It's so much fun when people notice :) gotta love it :) Then hubby stayed to visit while sister took me shopping..to Michaels and the super Walmart. I found lots of deals..got a new winter coat, new stainless steel pots, apple corer, silicone steamer, magazine, new chai tea and lots of fruits and veggies and a few treats for hubby and our dog..It came to $179
and I thought I had about $30 left on my last gift card but the cashier said it still had $100 on it so I got all that for $79 :) Then hubby and I went to Chapters and he bought a couple books, then we popped over to Safeway to pick up Chicken and gems for supper when we get home, and I finally got fresh flowers (for the 8 week Dr weil projects) I got a beautiful bouquet of orange mini roses to put in my new kitchen :) for $7.99..When I got them home I was reading on the package the meaning of each color of rose and orange is for desire and enthusiasm.. perfect for my motivation :) who knew?? Now the bad news..hubby bought some donuts at Safeway and of course I had to have a couple so I`m quite over my calories for today ..and I didn`t do the bootcamp..gonna do 2 tomorrow!!!

Hope you`re all having a great weekend!! The chai tea is good lots of clove flavor.
I should quit blogging and finish my tea and watch the game..not so good LA is ahead 3-2...Oh well..that`s hockey for ya!!

Thanks for stopping by for a chat and cuppa tea..Keep on Sparkin` and enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

Love Donna!

How were the roads? We have avoided the heavy snows the rest of the province got. Just light snow.

Love your tea blogs-- so cosy!!

You are some shopper: there is nothing more fun than a bargain!! My motto is "never the full price"!! (I often think of eating in the same way: is this worth the calories? taste/satisfaction/nutrition etc??)

Yummm donuts....Ok lets forget that. Sounds like you had a really nice time visiting & shopping with your sister. Sounds like you got some good deals, (aren't those gift cards great)?
Glad you finally got some flowers, the orange mini's sound so pretty, I just love fresh flowers in the house.

I had a busy day and now I'm having a glass of wine. Too much coffee earlier.

Mandarin orange green tea tonight..

Friday, January 14, 2011

Hi I'm relaxing with a cup of tea :) We're watching a western movie..I gave hubby a whole bunch of western movies for when there's nothing on tv :) Like tonight.

I did my 10 min boot camp video and 30 mins on my bike and shovelled the snow off the deck. We went to town to get the tractor and hubby drove it home and I drove the truck home after doing some business in town..mail, banking etc. I've been trying to spend less money this year so I had already got groceries in Weyburn on Monday so didn't go in the co-op, I did stop at the drugstore and bought a magazine..big weakness..and a birthday card for my father-in-law. I'm always looking for ways to save money...one article I read said the best way is just not to spend it in the first place :) Ask yourself if you already have something like it or if you need it or another one!

I made the crock pot beans today..I had soup for lunch and soup and a bit of beans for supper..Hubby really liked the beans..I'll put the rest in the fridge to eat later..they turned out good..needed a bit of extra cooking so they're still in the crock pot.

Tomorrow we're going up to Regina to visit my sister and do some shopping..I'll try to remember not to spend too much money..I still have some Walmart gift cards :) Maybe I'll find a winter coat on sale? Mine is getting way too big on me since I lost the first 20 pounds :) Just 20 more to go..I seem a bit stalled since the holidays but I know I can do it :)

After I finish the 28 day bootcamp challenge I'm going to join the couch to 5k challenge :) Maybe easier on my back...

Well it's warmed up some here and it felt good to be out of the yard for awhile... cabin fever and all..I'm looking forward to Regina and Super Walmart (also to see my sister and brother-in-law of course haha) I'll stock up on some fresh fruits and veggies at cheaper prices, maybe I'll even find some fresh flowers for my 8 weeks with Dr Weil :)

I'm finished my tea and ready to concentrate on the movie..thanks for stopping by for a chat and tea..Keep on Sparkin'

Love Donna

Magazines are good! I'm still collecting pictures to put on my inspiration board to hang up. And you can always drop them off for recycling like a hospital, (usually a few years old) Yesterday while waiting for my turn in court, I was reading a Sunset magazine from 2007.

Hope you have a fun day tomorrow and also find some good bargins while shopping. emoticon emoticon

Beer instead of tea :)

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Hi..we're watching a movie..we rented The A-Team on the dish..so I'm having some light lime beer to go with the popcorn..typical movie night :)

It's still quite cold here but at least the winds gone down some. The tractor might be ready tomorrow so we might go to town with the trailer and haul it home..too far to drive it, 20 miles, in this cold.

My back is feeling a lot better so I did the 10 min video for 28 day boot camp and the bonus video of 6 mins upper body on the ball and 30 mins cardio on bike. That and shovelled snow and hauled wood and my back still feels fine. I thought I pulled a muscle but it must have just been strained to be better after one day of rest. Thanks for all the comments and concerns :)

I finished sorting the food in my pantry..an upper cupboard lazy susan. And cooked a huge batch of brown rice and froze in meal size packages, made some jello for a few desserts..hubby has a real sweet tooth..I made him apple crisp for dessert with ice cream. I had my soup for dinner with a salmon wrap I used some left over homemade seafood sauce (ketchup and horseradish) to mix with the salmon. Also had soup for supper with a microwaved egg on a bagel. I'm soaking some beans overnight to make some of Meg's Boston Baked Beans..the recipe is very similar to my regular recipe but hers has ketchup and mine tomato soup. I'll use the crock pot since we'll be gone to town for part of the day.

I realize, looking back over the last few blogs that I'm too focused on food..but I do love to cook and bake and unfortunately, eat. Just now to focus on healthy choices and healthy portions!!! But cooking is a major part of who I am :)

I forgot to include the second week of Dr. weil...project..check out how safe your drinking water is...diet..add more fish, fresh veggies, and whole grains, check out an organic food store and add green tea...supplements...same as week one... exercise...15 mins daily walk...mental/spiritual...connect with nature...one day news fast..continue observing breath cycles..optional..pay attention to mental imagery and take notes .

I think I'm making progress toward my Resolutions and January goals at least I feel like I'm moving forward if only baby steps...

Well enough blogging for tonight...Thanks for stopping by for a chat..keep on Sparkin'..

Love Donna!!

emoticon emoticon emoticonCheers..PS the movie is good :)

Looks like your busy busy busy again. So glad your back is feeling well enough to exercise already. I know it's hard to stay on track when your down and out for awhile.
I love to hear about all the different recipes, meals and snacks you make. I truly makes me get motivated to get into the kitchen and cook dinner for hubby so he'll have something good to eat when he comes home from work. So I don't mind hearing about all the yummies. Thanks for sharing it all with us. I was going to have some wine tonight but I just got too busy and finally got to tired.
Time for sleep.

I bought tea today...and thought of you the whole time!! I don't usually drink tea...every few years I might go on a tea stint...but that's about it! My brother visited my mom in China just before Christmas and brought me back a mug, with a loose leaf tea strainer that fits inside, and a nice lid. It's made of purple clay. I have never seen or heard of this before but the mug is unpainted and has a deep grey/purple look to it. It feels soft to the touch, not mushy soft, but satiny soft. There are shoots of bamboo-like impressions circling the entire mug. My brother told me that purple clay absorbs flavor so I am supposed to pick a tea that I think I would really like and use only that tea! I picked a Spiced Cinnamon Chai tea that comes in these delicate little pyramid tea bags. It smells oh so good!! I can't wait to try my first cup...and I'm sure to think of you once again!!

Thank you for sharing your tea-time with us, and thank you for your wonderful food posts. You need not change a thing!!!

Sore back/ginger tea...

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Hi all..I have a really sore lower back today :( the pleasures of being over 50!!! I think I really over did yesterday's day 7 of boot camp..I have really weak abs..
So I really took it easy and just did some bike riding and no video..I'll catch up tomorrow if I feel better.

It's really cold here and windy and snowy tonight..probably -40 with the wind chill. Good thing we're well stocked with groceries, etc in case we're stormed in. I'm usually quite prepared and can go quite awhile without going to town for supplies..I think the worse time was about 30 years ago and we were stormed in and didn't go to town for 3 weeks...

I made a quick lunch of chili (easy with frozen already cooked burger crumbles, canned beans, tomato soup and chili powder!) I had a bit but mostly a big spinach salad..and peaches for dessert. I've been really cutting down on canned food for the salt and I've noticed the difference in my tin can recycling bag..it takes a long time to fill!! Supper was beef stew in the crock pot..just round steak cubes, potatoes, onions, carrots and parsnips some liquid and spices..yum yum!

Hubby put up the new medicine cabinet in the bathroom for me today and I hung a few new pictures I got for Christmas!!

But mostly taking it easy for my back...I figured how to turn back on my e-mails so had lots of those to read..watched a bit of tv tonight..and finished my pot of tea!! Time to get ready for bed..hope my back feels better tomorrow and the storm quits, too.

Thanks for stopping by for a chat and tea :) Keep on Sparkin'

Love Donna

Burrrr! That is really cold -40? I cannot even imagine how it feels to be that cold. So sorry to hear about your back. I think taking it easy for a couple days is good. Like you said, you can always catch up later. And it's hard to exercise well when your back is sore.
Well, I'm off to bed also. Appointment early tomorrow morning.

Hi..I'm having the last of the Montana wild huckleberry tea...

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

....I think I need to go back to Plentywood and get some more :)

It's been another cold day here..hubby went to town with the parts for the tractor and it won't be too much longer till it's back together! I did day 7 of the boot camp and rode 30 mins on my bike...

I worked on cooking the last 2 of the pumpkins I grew in my garden..they were in the root cellar. I cut them in half and baked them in the oven..then put them in my new food processor I for salsa this fall..boy that worked great. Then I made a pumpkin sheet cake with cream cheese icing for hubby, then some pumpkin oatmeal muffins for me and froze 8 bags of pumpkin puree to use later...maybe in pumpkin oatmeal :)

I visited with my neighbor who lost her brother..she's home now so I gave her a call.

When hubby got home we had lunch..I had a salmon wrap, with spinach and berry yogurt. We drove over to the oil lease while the truck was warmed up to check on the progress. They have the pumper in place and 2 huge tanks..just need to move in a power plant and start pumping the oil out...

When we got back I shovelled the deck off and hubby did some chores. I lost in cribbage during coffee. For supper I made ginger beef with stir fry veggies and a bit of rice and pumpkin stuff for dessert.

I still haven't found where to turn back on my e-mails..I'll keep trying :)

I've finished my tea so I should head to bed.. tomorrow's another cold, cold day...
I need to find day 8 for boot camp...

Have a great evening and keep on sparkin'..reading all the blogs is so inspiring. Thanks for reading and commenting on my blogs..I appreciate all the comments and support :)

Love Donna
