Ooohh!! Pictures!! It looks great! The color looks about like one that I helped a friend choose for her living room. Very soothing and classy. Nice job, busy woman!

PS: Nice big smile on the hubby!

December 6..the painting continues...

Monday, December 06, 2010

Hi..I'm making a pot of warmth cinnamon spice tea...and relaxing after a busy day of painting..the livingroom is almost finished and put back together..hubby helped put together some bookcases for the family room so I can move some books to there..I have way too many books!!!!

It's been very cold here..and had fog last night so the trees were beautiful today covered with frost!! I helped hubby check the herd and chop a water hole..we visited with the new water hauler for the oil rig. After lunch a neighbor came over for coffee and pick up the Christmas cards I bought for his Mom. Hubby fed some bales while I worked on the livingroom some more..then he went to town for a tow tow the broken tractor to town tomorrow and he got the mail too. We got another Christmas card in the mail..that makes 3 so far..I send over 50 but never get that many back..just like to keep in touch!!

My new plan to display the cards this year is to put ribbon around the 2 doors in the living room like a parcel and then attach the cards to the ribbon..I used to tape them on the wall around the mirror but don't want to use tape on my new paint job.I'm using tacks to attach the ribbon to the top. bottom and sides of the to figure out how to attach the cards to the ribbon..tape, pins. fun tac? any ideas?

A friend and I like to go carolling every Christmas at the seniors home..I used to work there as a cook, she still works there as a care aid. We usually have a good time. and the residents really like it!! We'll plan on an afternoon after one of her day shifts so she doesn't have to come to town twice.

Something I always have up at Christmas is an advent parents always had one and growing up we used to say the whole rosary every evening. now I just light the candles on Sunday nights...

I hope you will share some of your favorite Christmas ideas, traditions or any thing Christmasy...I have a huge collection of Christmas books and magazines. I love to read books and get ideas.

My favorite Christmas gift I ever got was a huge doll house that my Grandpa built for my sister and me. It was for Barbie's and was 2 stories high plus an attic and each story had 3 rooms. He made furniture , too. Quite a special gift that was!!

Well I'm almost finished my tea and it's time for Jay Leno's headlines, so I should go for now..take care..keep on Sparkin'..
..Love Donna

Why is it always cold at Christmas? Because it's in Decembrrrrrr.....

I have way too many books too. They're one thing I have a hard time weeding out and getting rid of! I love hearing all your plans and enthusiasm for the holidays. I love Christmas season too, but the season often flies by without me doing as much as I'd like to. I like your idea for card display! I usually hang mine on the curtain rods or in the interior shutter louvers, but the drawback is they're all spread out.

Glad you're caroling -- I love it too! Every year I have to talk lots of my clients into joining me, but they always say they enjoyed it afterwards!

You could use coloured paperclips to attach the cards to the ribbon

I love seeing the end product of all the hard work, especially home improvement projects. It makes you feel so good! My grandma used to tape her cards to one of her doors and my mom used to tape them around the kitchen door frame, that was very festive looking. One of my favorite presents when I was a kid was a baby Krissy doll with hair that grew when you pressed her belly button! Lol!
Thanks for the fun blog!

Wow, you had quite a busy day again. I love the ribbon on the door idea for your cards. That sounds cute. Seems like every year we get less and less cards. I guess writing is becoming a lost art.
Christmas caroling sound like so much fun. I haven't done that since I was young and in the girl-scouts. If we did that in our neighborhood we'd probably get mugged. Just kidding, it's not that bad.
The doll house sounds wonderful! Do you still have it?
I'm definitely going to be making some Christmas cookies this year. We got our kitchen remodeled and I'm going to use it.
I always love your blogs. Thank you for sharing your stories.

Woo Hoo we're done hauling bales!!

Sunday, December 05, 2010

Hi.we're done hauling bales and we're celebrating with beer, not tea!!

I helped with a few loads today and moved the tractor home, also checked the herd myself and chopped a water hole for them. We got the new stove moved into the kitchen and used it to make supper..baked chicken potatoes and carrots.

I did more painting's coming along great and in a few days I hope to have the living room and family room put back to normal..I'll take a few pictures and then start decorating for Christmas!!

I missed blogging yesterday because I went to a Christmas party. The drugstore where I used to work puts on 2 of these fun ladies evenings..for $20 there is supper after cocktails, gifts and prizes, then over to the store (its a gift store/drugstore) where everything is 20% off and no taxes. With your $20 ticket you get $20 off any non sale item..more treats and tea..more prizes..luggage, DVD player and diamond necklace, and a 50/50 draw that was over $8oo!! I didn't win any of the big prizes. I went with the ball team women while the men had a poker night. I wasn't driving so I indulged in 4 was such a fun time!!! I had the cards..with pictures and lotto scratch tickets for the I have 8 gifts delivered!! We don't do a lot of parties but this one was really fun!!

I've been surfing thru some posts for Christmas type blogs and threads since I love Christmas!! I've been enjoying everyones thoughts and ideas!!

I love traditions..I have my mother's nativity scene from when we were growing up. My mom used to collect dolls so one year I gave her china doll angels for her tree..they had pleated shirts. When my mom passed away I got the angel ornaments and have an angel themed tree..and think of my angel mom at Christmas!!

Well I have a few more things to track so I should sign off this blog..Keep on Sparkin' and stop by for tea tomorrow night :)

Hope all your Christmas preparations are coming along..remember to take time for yourself and get enough rest, nutritious food and exercise!!!

Peace for the holidays...

Yay! the bales are finally done! What a long process!!! Sounds like it was a fun Christmas party, nothing like a party to get you into the holiday spirit! I think I will get a few of our Christmas things out today. We have one room where the remodel dust shouldn't be too heavy . . . not sure we will have a tree . . . no room for it!!! Your angel tree sounds lovely! Hope you have a marvelous Monday! emoticon

Isn't it a great feeling to have all the hay hauled from the fields? It certainly is a good reason to celebrate with a beer (or two)!

Have you been getting this ice fog we've had and are having? We're supposed to have at least two more days of it. It makes me wonder if there really is a sun up there.

Is your background picture a view from your house?

December 3...Peppermint tea again :)

Saturday, December 04, 2010

Hi..I did a lot of painting today, we also checked cows, went to town to pick up my new stove from Sears, moved hubby out to hay field to haul more bales. I painted the wood work in the living room and painted my kitchen cupboards. I also did night chores, hauled wood to the house and helped move hubby home from hay field..can't leave the tractor out overnight it's too cold.

I like all the fun ideas friends have responded with :) for Christmas ideas.

emoticon I had a really fun idea when I gave my nieces and nephews gifts when they were little. I made popcorn balls, wrapped them in plastic wrap, tied a pair of mini mitts around the popcorn ball. I've used it for gifts for the slo-pitch team kids, too :)

emoticonAnother gift idea I had was when my kids needed new pillows, I picked white ones wrapped in clear plastic..if there's writing put it to the back, then I took felt and cut out snowman for mouth and eyes, orange, carrot shape for nose, then taped then on, I used a $ store fleece scarf tied at neck and more black cut outs for buttons..they turned out quite cute!!

emoticonI found a great article in Family Circle that had 5 good's called Easy Does It

Give yourself the gift of managing the extra workload with more grace than grouchiness.

1. in addition to your to-do list, make a not-to-do list

2. watch for warning signs that you're in overdrive..raised heart rate, irritable, stress eating....find a way to slow down.

3. stop every so often for meditation, prayer or thinking about what's good in your life.

4. be aware of anxious thoughts and replace them with positive ones.."I can do this" "I'm good at this"

5. make rest, good nutrition, and exercise priorities, think of your energy levels as a bank account you don't want to overdraw.

Well, I better get to bed tomorrow will be more painting and I have a Christmas party in the evening!!!

Have a great weekend..keep on Sparkin'.... Donna

I see why you love Xmas -- you're a natural for coming up with cute ideas. Thanks for sharing the 'work plan'. I like the "not to do" list!!! I'm gonna pass that on.

Peppermint tea is one of my favorites too. Can't wait to see your photos of your paint job!

Oooo . . . cute gift ideas! I might have to use them! I like the tips from the magazine too. I always make a to do list, but I never thought of a not to do list! It is a beautiful morning here. We are getting snow, time to pull out the snow shovels and boots! Can't wait to see pictures of your home improvements. My new stove is in, but we aren't ready for it yet. New plumbing went in this week, all copper. Tiling will begin in the new bathroom either today or Monday. Enjoy your party tonight emoticon

December 2..peppermint tea...

Thursday, December 02, 2010

Hi...Today hubby got back to hauling bales and I got back to painting!! We checked the herd first thing in the morning, then checked some gravel pits since hubby needs a bit of gravel..the closest one is easiest to get to, the other one was blocked with snow. Then we had lunch..grilled cheese and tomato soup. Then I helped hubby move up to the hay field and he hauled 5 loads today. I went home with the first load and finally put up the Christmas lights on the house..we have the icicle kind of lights and I duct ta;e them onto a wire strung around the front of the house :) You know you're a redneck when you duct tape up your Christmas lights!! haha!!

Then I got back to painting and started on the living room. I'm finished for the night so I need a pot of tea and a rest!! Oh, ya I also did night chores, moved hubby home and made pork chops, sweet potatoes and mixed veggies for supper.

I haven't made much progress on my goals..I did ride my bike for 15 minutes, and walked quite a bit when I turned the 2 saddle horses out to the south pasture and walked to the stack yard twice, plus painting..and the lights.

I'd love to hear some of your fun Christmas ideas..some of mine are.....

emoticonSince we have an artificial tree that we use each year I miss the smell of fresh pine so I cut a bottom branch off one of our big yard trees and put little sprigs here and there to decorate..on top of pictures in livingroom with a little bow, around Christmas displays, behind my handmade wooden nativity scene..sure the needles are a bit of a pain but it brings in the fresh pine smell!!

emoticonIt wouldn't be Christmas with out making my Grandma's Christmas salad..she passed away when I was 10 but she was very special to me. I even have one of her special bowls that I always serve it's the salad that has 1 cup coconut, 1 cup mini marshmallows, 1 cup drained crushed pineapple,1 cup mandarin orange sections and 1 cup sour cream (I substitute low fat cool whip) stir all together and to serve I take another mandarin orange and divide it in sections and place them like a flower on top..each section is a petal and a cherry in the center.

emoticonOne of my favorite things is to send out cards to keep in touch with family and friends..I send about 50 and I usually buy 2 or 3 boxes at Walmart after Christmas when they are on sale. I try to include a picture and a letter I print out newsletter style. I love to give something little to my 11 nieces and nephews at Christmas and sometimes did phone cards, or lotto nice in a card but they don't always work where they live..all across Canada..Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec and Saskatchewan. I've finally come up with
Tim Horton gift cards..$5 each for coffee, or donuts etc, they mail nice and work across Canada.

Well it's almost 11 pm so I should finish this up and get to bed!!

Thanks for dropping by for Christmas tea and a chat..I hope you'll share your fun Christmas ideas...

Keep on Sparkin'...
...Love Donna

Love the Christmas light idea! You have used two of the five important items in the 'redneck on the farm' arsenal - wire and duct tape . . the other three are WD-40, baling twine and a sack of Quickcrete!

We always use an artificial tree, love your idea of pine branches! I think I will try that this year.

Hmmmm I just heard about the "elf on the shelf" idea for Christmas. A friend of mine has young ones that love Christmas. She has a little elf doll that every night when the kids are in bed she moves to different areas in the house. She explains to the kids that Santa has the elf on the shelf to keep an eye out and see if they have been god or bad for Christmas. She said every day the kids jump out of bed (weeks leading up to the 25th) and look for where the elf is that day. I think there is even a book for it. If I have kids I would love to do it.

I love the duct tape lights! Hey . . . whatever works so they stay in place!!! I have tins that I put out at Christmas, each tim is known by my children to contain a certain item: Almond toffee, m&m's, carmel popcorn, sugar cookies, peanut butter blossom cookies, . . .

Enjoy the tea!
