I needed a day for my own stuff.... :)

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Hi.. I soo needed a day to catch up on some of my stuff!! After I went along with hubby to check cows..and we aren't missing any!! I started on a huge list of things to do... mostly laundry and some housework.. and some outside work... Most of the jobs are checked off my list and I even went to town for the mail...

I think I did 8 ore 9 loads of laundry..all yesterday and today's dishes, washed all the screens and windows and put up the screens, cleaned up the branding stuff including a broken beer in the new fridge..we had it turned too high and some stuff froze

Meals were yesterday's left overs for lunch and supper was oven beef stew with lots of veggies..onions, celery, carrots, parsnips and potatoes..yum yum!!

I'm just finishing up today by catching up on the internet, having beer and plain popcorn and watching hockey...hubby is already asleep on the couch!! and I'm ready for bed...

Thanks for dropping by and for your kind comments!! Keep on Celebrating and keep on Sparkin'

Woo Hoo Branding is done for another year!!

Monday, May 13, 2013

Hi.. What a great reason to celebrate!! Branding is was a long, windy, hot and tiring day but it's time to do the happy dance again...

Everything went quite fine..we did have a cow jump over and break a gate and escape! Still not sure where she is...

The neighbors came to help..our closest neighbor..the sheep guy, and our close friends that we helped brand awhile ago..well we helped brand their calves..not them lol

So just the company made it was also lots and lots of hard work!! Hubby and I moved the herd up before the crew got here at 7 a.m. Then we sorted cows from calves and vaccinated the cows...hubby gave one shot, I gave the other one...then a quick coffee break and started on the calves...I loaded the chute and the crew did the rest..the tagging, branding, and vaccinating..we have a tipping table so we don't have to wrestle them..way too old for that!! lol

Finished in time for lunch and everything turned out fine :) well the roast was kind of hard to slice so I plan B'd it and we had shredded beef..I can ALWAYS improvise!!

After the crew left we went on a tour to find the escaped cow with no luck..unless she headed back into the pasture and is now back with the herd..there isn't a calf missing it's mom either..just a mystery :)

I'm relaxing on the couch after supper of leftovers and the dishes can wait until tomorrow when I have some energy...and ..what else..watching hockey..

Tonight will be an early night!!

I got kicked a couple times putting the calves into the chute so when I changed out of jeans to some cut offs..I looked down at my legs and they were all blue!! I thought what the can I have so many bruises that don't hurt?? and remembered that I was wearing new jeans that hadn't been washed yet and the dye ran on my legs!! lol I do have one bruise and a goose egg from the worst kick...

Well..time to grab some more water..can't get enough tonight!!

Thanks so much for dropping by and keep on celebrating and keep on Sparkin'

Blue legs: love it! And especially since MOST of it wasn't bruising . . .

Everyone's talking about "branding" as in establishing a persona/business identity: you take us back to the original meaning of the concept!

Happy Mother's day....

Sunday, May 12, 2013

Hi..hope you all had a very happy Mother's day..mine was great!! Hubby gave me a card, a dozen red roses and my horse planter :)

Started this morning with a phone call from my son :) He's working the night shift.. we had a nice visit!

Then sent some messages back and forth on facebook with oldest daughter...she was at a weekend get away with her new boyfriend..he has 3 kids, she has 2 and they were all there..she had a fun time :)

Then when they got home the little granddaughters phoned to wish me happy mother's day and talked to my daughter too... all is well..and had a great day!!

I think this is a sure sign of old age...I feel soo tired today after just getting ready for tomorrow.. oh no!! I'll keep this short so I can get to bed early...

won't even stay up til the end of the hockey game...

I got all the food ready to go, the house tidied, helped hubby with odd jobs outside, gathered up all the supplies, chased the herd in on the quad while hubby shredded bales, and gave hubby a haircut!! (oh I also planted out a few flowers..) yikes...

..time for bed tomorrow is a big day!!

Thanks for dropping by and keep on celebrating and keep on sparkin'

Early Happy Mother's Day....

Sunday, May 12, 2013 was full of celebrations!!

After checking the herd and roping a couple calves to treat..we headed to town for the opening day of the local greenhouse..complete with balloons, cake and door prize draws!!

I bought a tumbler tomato, an ivy and a planter for the MIL...then off to Weyburn to take Mother-in-law out for lunch...I had a yummy sandwich and some sweet potato fries!! Then we did a bit of shopping...and back home...

Hubby did some more chores while I BBQ'd steaks for supper..watched the end of the hockey game..

My cousin phoned to wish me an early Happy Birthday...and we had a nice visit!!

My MIL gave me my birthday gift today..I'll wait until next Saturday to open it..she also gave me a gift certificate to the greenhouse :)

Hubby bought me red roses for Mother's Day as well as the horse planter I had picked out :)

I was watching PBS and saw a special on the 50th Anniversary of the Seattle worlds fair....I went to that when I was 4 years old..I do remember some and my Mom had taken home movies of it so I remember that much..oh and the Belgium waffles :) The other highlight was the arena water skiing!! Such fun memories..when all my immediate family was together..since then my mom passed away in 1996 and my Dad and Brother are both gone now too..I have 2 older sisters left...

I'm looking forward to mother's day tomorrow..hope to hear from at least one or two of my 3 kids..or not...either way it will be a fun day and a great celebration!! Hope your mother's day is filled with joy and laughter and love..even if you spend it like me... getting ready for the branding..we have to round up all the cattle and bring them back to the yard..feed them there..get the corrals ready by cleaning some and strawing and moving gates and panels and set up the calf tipping table..gather all supplies needed for the day...
..then I'll start with the house stuff..getting the meal ready to magically cook it's self while I'm outside all morning...we will start really early and sort the cows from calves and vaccinate them as we go..then put the calves through the chute and tipping table..brand, vaccinate and give then a special eartag...we have about 120 to do and we should be done by noon or shortly after..we have neighbors coming to help, as we go to their places to help too.. my meal plan is a chocolate cake and some cookies to have with morning coffee, then lunch will be roast beef, baked potatoes, 2 salads, homemade beans, creamed corn and buns and pickles..dessert will be flapper pie. I chilled 2 dozen beer and put a case of bottled water into the freezer..(it's supposed to be really hot Monday!!)
Tomorrow I'll bake the cake and cookies, make the pie..and the 2 salads..the beans are ready..then on Monday morning the roasts go into the oven, the foil wrapped potatoes go into the crock pot and all will be fine until I come in around noon or 1..then I'll carve the roasts while I microwave the corn., pull the rest out of the fridge..all ready in minutes..can you tell I've done this for 35 to bed and get an early start on tomorrow..thanks for dropping by and keep on celebrating and keep on sparkin'

Wow, it does sound like a busy but a rather fun day with the celebration & visit, lunch, & shopping with your MIL.
And the food you are making all sounds so delicious for sure. Yummmm. You always make the best meals ever! I wish I was that comfortable about cooking. I do cook but have never been very good at it.
That is so great that you were at the worlds fair in Seattle. I remember it. We didn't actually go, but I remember my parents talking about going there for a vacation. I'm not sure why we didn't. I was 9 years old then. I'm sure I would have great memories had we of gone since I never did get to any worlds fairs, however I did make it to plenty of our county fairs for probably just as mucy fun.
Wishing you the very best of Mothers Day & hoping you hear from all your kids.
Hope You have a Wonderful Day!

Doing my happy dance...

Saturday, May 11, 2013 the pasture boss came to get more stuff and brought the replacement guy to ask hubby questions about the pasture...kind of high stress as hubby has mixed feelings about not working there anymore..the only perk was the wage and the stress I think really out weighed the can't always be about money!!

So as hubby is feeling bad about not working there anymore..I'm doing my happy dance!!! Things will get better soon..I hope..when we find out how much extra time we have to do our own work!!

I had chill in the crock pot for lunch and fish and veggies for supper...

We did some fencing but it was really really windy today so fencing wasn't too much fun!

Now I'm relaxing on the couch , had my beer in my birthday beer/horse glasses!! Been watching hockey and hubby has the remote now and is surfing... :)

Besides doing my happy dance to celebrate..I have a friend whose birthday is today!! woohoo!! Today was my Dad's birthday..he died several years ago and wasn't a very great dad :( ...alcoholic.. verbally and sometimes physically abusive..not a great childhood...

..back to my happy point in reliving nasty times....

Thanks for dropping by..keep on celebrating and keep on Sparkin'!!

Love Donna emoticon

Oh YAY for you & your hubby!! I'm sure he does have mixed feelings about something he has been responsible for doing for quite a while. He may also be a little worried about the money end of it. You know men feel quite responsible f
or being the head of the household & making sure that all is taken care of financially. Hopefully you both will have more free time & will enjoy being able to spend more time on your own ranch. And more time to spend doing the Happy Dance together!
