Hi...we had a small taste of spring..snow is forecast for tomorrow...

Thursday, March 14, 2013

Hi..what a day..we did hours and hours and hours of chores today and I am soooo tired!! My feet ache from being on them all day long!!

Just a quick blog before I head to bed...spent soo much time outside I have a wind burnt face and chapped lips...
We had a another set of twins overnight..that makes 5 sets..we lost one of the twins :( hubby brought both into the porch but only one made it..I bottle fed the survivor and then we put her on her mommy...after morning chores we moved all the herds around and shuffled everyone around..the yearlings are at the far back.. and we finally got about 25 pairs debugged and turned out to the bottom coralls...makes lots more room behind the barn..most pairs got turned out of the barn too so only had under 10 pairs to do night chores for..haul water, feed oats and fork hay and straw...

We actually had a mild, sunny and spring like day...our only one as we are back to cold and snow tomorrow and a weekend snow storm forecast for us :( Well I did enjoy our one day of spring!!

Meals were just quick ones..my fav breakfast..oatmeal and dates; lunch was a hot dog, sauerkraut and baked potato; for supper I threw in a beef roast and added some potatoes and onions and microwaved some veggies when we got in... Now I'm just finishing up watching hockey and having a light beer...it's putting me to sleep...

I did my stretches today again...but I am soo stiff and sore from this hectic day! My feet are burning and aching :( should have worn my pedometer to see how many miles I walked today.....

Best head to bed..thanks for dropping by..keep on stretching ..keep on sparkin'

Hi..the blizzard is over for now...

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Hi..today was calm and clear and cold!! we have another storm forescast for the weekend...will this winter never end??

I missed by friend's funeral..but she was in my thoughts and prayers all day. Hubby spent the whole day hooking up the snowblower and clearing snow off the road and in the stack yards... we had 3 calves today and one died after it was stepped on :( Always sad to see them die..and we also lose money then too :( We had a yearling with it's head stuck in the gate so that was a challenge to get it out but we did and all's fine with it now...

Helped with all the morning and evening chores, so got lots of exercise in today!! Did my stretching too..mostly while cooking supper as I realized I hadn't stretched yet by then..

Meals today were my date cake oatmeal (oatmeal, water and dates microwaved together..yum yum) lunch was more soup, supper was ginger beef, rice and corn.

I spent more time than usual in the house so got caught up with laundry, did lots of dishes, caught up on some journalling and visited on the phone with one of my best friends...

I had only done a half a month shopping trip since I was planning to go to granddaughter's skating carnival next weekend and pick up some fresh stuff in Regina on my way through..but now the carnival is cancelled I'll still have to pick up a few things..somewhere?

This week's challenge is stretching and has me thinking a lot about stretching... something that I like to do but never take the time to do it!! Well this is the week to be doing...that and there are more meanings to stretching..like I like to stretch out my groceries and stretch my food dollars...I like losing weight so my clothes don't have to stretch soo much to fit around me..haha....need to remember to put some lotion on my stretch marks...well enough of that...

I think my tiredness is making me not make sense...

Thanks for dropping by and for your comments..keep on stretching and keep on Sparkin'

emoticon So glad you had a better weather day. So sorry to hear about the little calf, I know the reason your raising them is because it is your choice of livelyhood. I hope you don't loose any more. It's too bad you couldn't make it to your friends funeral. Unfortunately we can't help what the weather does. Sounds like you ate very healthy today. Yay!

Blah on the weather. We haven't had much snow this year, but a sprinkling a time or two here in Western North Carolina, at least in my area of it. Sorry about the calf and hope you don't lose anymore. Take care and happy stretching.

Another blizzard.....

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

Hi..we are in the middle of another blizzard..will winter ever end here?

I spent today rescuing calves from the blizzard, pulling hubby out when he got the tractor stuck and forking more hay and straw...

I did make some time in the house to do some laundry, bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies, make a huge batch of meatballs...and freeze most for future meals. I had cereal and milk for breakfast, hamburger soup and buns for lunch, spagetti and metballs and veggies for supper...

The roads are all blocked again and my friend's funeral is tomorrow at 11 am so there is no way I can make it out..the storm won't even be over yet... :(
When the storm started late morning we had 4 calves in one hour..we have around 50 calves so far..getting close to half done...

I did take the time to do the stretching this morning and I wanted to do the online mediation but ran out of time..today was day one of the Deepak Chopra 21 day meditation challenge..so I guess I'll try to do day one and two tomorrow..

Well..time for a herd check to look for babies..hubby was out at 9 and it's almost 11:30..have a great and restful sleep...

Thanks for dropping by and keep on stretching and keep on Sparkin'

I'm also done with Winter. We had a storm on Friday, but it's 50 degrees here so most of the white crap should melt, there's still hope! Spring should be coming...
50 calves, WOW. You sound B-U-S-Y. Do you wear a pedometer or a fitbit, I'm curious as to what your daily step total is.....
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and they you won't be able to make it to the funeral. Maybe you can have your own 'moment of silence' during the funeral?? [hugs]

Sounds like it couldn't be more testing if it tried...winter that is. You must be very efficient doing all that farm work and getting meals ready and more for later.

Hope the next lot of calves arrive healthy.

Sorry you will miss the funeral, that must be hard.

Spring is on the way!!!

Day 2 of Stretching :)

Monday, March 11, 2013

Hi..this will be a quick blog..it's time for me to go out and check onthe herd for new babies..we are about 1/3 done and today we had our 4th set of twins, counting the dead ones. It has been so hectic here trying to get stuff done in all this snow and cold..can't wait until spring!!

Today I helped ring the calves and give them vitamins, and feed bales and straw the sheds and barn..between chores I baked a pumpkin sheet cake and a batch of peanut butter cookies. Breakfast was cereal and milk; lunch was eggs and toast; supper was a chicken breast, some mashed potaotes and turnips and a spinach salad...I also made up some 100 cal snack packs of some cheerios, almonds, pumpkin seeds, raisins and chocolate chips..yum yum..I made up 14 of them. Hubby and I each had a pack at coffee time with our cribbage game.

The stretching is going fine..I read a few ideas in some books I have..I like the Denise Austin stretches so I did them today...feels so good as I'm stiff and sore...I like child's pose..could sleep like that...

Tomorrow I start a 21 meditation challenge with Deepak Chopra...looking forward to that...

Talked to my daughter today and she told me that the skating carnival has been cancelled since there are only 11 kids skating...it was my plan to go up next weekend but I'm kind of relieved as the forecast is for freezing rain next week end and it's a 4 hour drive both ways...we discussed Easter plans and we may not get together..we are too bogged down with calving this year...

Well..I best get outside..it's almost 11 pm ..last night I was up until after 1 am so hope we don't have someone calving...

Thanks for dropping by..keep on Sparkin'

I still can't believe that your outside doing all these heavy chores then you come in and do all that baking. You are Superwoman for sure. Sounds like things are going pretty well. Yeah, Easter is coming early this year, making it tough on some families to get together. emoticon

Love your idea of cribbage at break time. DH is working on his model railway layout 10 hours every day, so I hardly see him. Maybe I can tempt him to come up for a game of dominoes for a break.

Stretching Feels Soooo Good....

Saturday, March 09, 2013

Hi....this week's 5% challenge is stretching for 10 minutes..and I'm so stiff and sore it really felt great...

Another busy day here on the ranch...

lots more calves again today and still cold and snowy...running out of space to put all these babies....we need to turn lots of pairs out from behind the barn down to the bottom corrals.

Today was weigh in day for the challenge and I was happy I stayed the same weight..with my stress eating day and yesterday's birthday party cake and last night's popcorn and beer...

Today I did a little bit of housework between going out and doing chores and checking the herd...I was using my new vacuum and thought it would do a nice job on the mat in the kitchen and the corner got sucked in and broke the belt :( boo hoo..good thing it came with a spare belt.

Today's meals were..cereal and milk for breakfast, the last of my soup for lunch, and an orange, steak, veggies and a salad for supper and some more lemon pudding..

Well..best finish this up and catch up on some sleep...I was up and out at 3:30 am helping hubby with cows calving....sooo sleepy...

Thanks for dropping by and keep on sparkin'
