Stretching Feels Soooo Good....

Saturday, March 09, 2013

Hi....this week's 5% challenge is stretching for 10 minutes..and I'm so stiff and sore it really felt great...

Another busy day here on the ranch...

lots more calves again today and still cold and snowy...running out of space to put all these babies....we need to turn lots of pairs out from behind the barn down to the bottom corrals.

Today was weigh in day for the challenge and I was happy I stayed the same weight..with my stress eating day and yesterday's birthday party cake and last night's popcorn and beer...

Today I did a little bit of housework between going out and doing chores and checking the herd...I was using my new vacuum and thought it would do a nice job on the mat in the kitchen and the corner got sucked in and broke the belt :( boo hoo..good thing it came with a spare belt.

Today's meals were..cereal and milk for breakfast, the last of my soup for lunch, and an orange, steak, veggies and a salad for supper and some more lemon pudding.. finish this up and catch up on some sleep...I was up and out at 3:30 am helping hubby with cows calving....sooo sleepy...

Thanks for dropping by and keep on sparkin'

Ok, first 3:30 am is WAY to early to get up. I still consider that the middle of the night. No wonder your tired. You do need to get to get to sleep early for sure. Nite, Nite! emoticon

Week 2 Blog 7.....

Friday, March 08, 2013

Hi..the last day of the blog challenge on the 5% winter challenge..the assignment for today is...anything else I'd like to share with the team...

Well I'd like to share that I have enjoyed this blog challenge..and have really appreciated all your feedback and have had fun visiting blogs too :)

Today was the fun birthday party with my best friends!! We had a fun afternoon of catching up, tea, cake and presents :)

I helped with the morning chores and we did some ear tagging and turning pairs out of the barn. After a quick lunch of the yummy soup hubby drove me out to the road and then walked back to the yard..he cleaned the road after feeding the cattle so the road was all cleared for the drive home....after the party I went to town and got the mail, then when I got home right back to chores..helped roll a bale into the barn with hubby..then worked on the rest of the night chores...

..came into the house and made a quick supper of fish, veggies and lemon pudding. Hubby went back out to the barn and I made some popcorn for a snack with the hockey game...

Only 4 calves so far today so a bit of a quieter day :) and I enjoyed my time away from the cows this afternoon :)

Well that concludes the week 2 blog week's challenge is 10 minutes of stretching..something that I definitely need to do more of...I'm starting to stiffen up with all this shovelling and chores...

Thanks for dropping by and for all your comments..keep on Sparkin'

Week 2 Blog 6...

Friday, March 08, 2013

Wow..this week has really flown by..can there just be 2 more days of blogging?
I'm talking about the assingment for the 5% Challenge..and today's question is "Do you need some motivation or advice? Ask for it."

Wow is all I can say about how much motivation you all have given me here on Spark!! I appreciate all the friends, all the comments , all the goodies, all the likes on my people are the best.. about motivation!!

The answer to the question is yes..I can always use some motivation and advice!! Feel free to offer me any advice on my new healthy habit..improving my nutrition...anybody have any suggetions??

Thanks in advance for all your comments ..advice and motivation :)

I'm just finishing up a very tiring day..started out when hubby went out to feed bales and was going to use the big tractor and the bale shredder so I wouldn't have to cut twine..well he got stuck and we couldn't get him out with the other tractor so while he fed bales I shovelled it out..about an hour of shovelling...of course today was a day he wanted to get chores done early as our neighbor asked him to drive him to town so he could pick up his tractor that was getting fixed. Well after the chores and a quick lunch he was off to pick up the neighbor and he got stuck on out drive way...we have a 1/2 mile driveway full of hills and curves...we live near the Big Muddy Valley and it's very hilly here (most people think Saskatchewan is flat!!)

While hubby was gone..about 1 1/2 hours...I was in charge of the herd checking and we had 5 calves!! so that was a total of 7 today and we have 35 calves so far! It made for a very late day getting night chores done and finding places for all these babies...supper was very late..didn't eat until after 7..and watched a bit of the hockey game and then out for more chores!!

My hope was to get some inside jobs done while hubby was away so I did catch up on dishes and laundry and start a batch of bread..the conventional kind..not the bread machine kind..I made five was still rising when hubby came home so I watched the time and came to the house and put it in the oven and then went back outside and watched the time again and came in to take it out of the oven...

..Tomorrow is the birthday party so I got the gift all ready and hubby said it the road is still blocked he'll drive me to the grid and then walk back home..then hopefully I won't get stuck coming home....yikes!! I know I'll have fun with my best friends..can't wait!!

Well...I best get out for a night check and get to bed..tomorrow is another day..

Thanks for dropping by..and for all your continued support..keep on Sparkin'

woops..was going to add my meals to my blog and forgot..ate better today..small bowl of cereal and milk and a banana for breakfast..lunch was more soup and crackers..afternoon snack was ww toast..supper was a small pork chop some veggies and homemade bread..with a small seving of apple tea for a bedtime snack...and lots and lots of water.....

Week 2 Blog 5

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

Hi..Today's blog is to be about ..What can I improve upon..

first of all..I'm having a sad friend passed away today..thanks for all your concern and sympathy...
My hubby is in an extremely grumpy mood so that always makes me sad too...

The calving/chores has been unreal busy and I haven't been doing as great with my healthy eating plans..having too many snacks and stress eating...

..we went to town for the mail this morning...and I bought a rice krispie treat for a treat..then I had pie for dessert after my soup for lunch..and had an apple for a snack in the afternoon..then steak and salad for supper which was a healthy choice..but we had a bit of a rodeo with a heifer calving...and came in and ate a big bowl of chocolate ice cream..which was over my calories and I'm supposed to have given up ice cream for lent :(...we all have days like this...don't we....

Time to pick myself up and get back on track tomorrow...on a brighter note I did get lots and lots of exercise 4 or 5 hours of chores..and I'm exhausted..both physically and mentally...we had several calves today again and the heifer that was calving after supper was upside down in the corral and when a cow gets on her back she can we are panicking...and trying to get her back upright. .. hubby put a rope on one of her feet and we pulled her over..then chased her into the barn and it was a very hard pull to help the calf was a huge calf but alls fine with it.

We set up a portable wall in a corral and moved more pairs out of the barn. Part of the portable panels had stands that were frozen into the corral so I used an ax and chopped it out...took about 45 minutes...arms are burning from that. Then took twine of several bales and moved the herds around. The little calf in the house got another bottle and then we put her back with her wild momma..they aren't doing so great together may need another bottle soon...Another heifer calved today and went completely nuts..just a typical day on the ranch...

I hope tomorrow is a better day...I will try harder to keep up with my healthy eating..and get back on track..and hopefully it will be a less sad day...

Thanks for dropping by and for all your kind comments..keep on sparkin'

So very sorry to hear that your friend didn't have a miracle happen. On the other hand you have new calfs born daily. Life comes & goes doesn't it? I hope the cows are able to settle down soon & just have fun with their little babies. Maybe their getting into the sugar. So glad you were able to get the mother upright, sounds like a lot of work getting her there.
With the eating of junk food, well we really do all have those days. I just had one today. I wish I could get my hubby to stop buying the sweets & bringing them home all the time.

Hi Donna, sounds like things are pretty hectic around there. Sorry to hear about your friend. In our community the obituary notices are posted on our local post office door !! and it is always depressing to go in to town and see three or four notices, most of whom you know and some who are younger than I. Life is never fair...

Calving has gone relatively well for me. Had mostly bare ground last week but then four or five inches of snow which has now melted with a bit of rain to mix it all into mud. Finished the first cycle with the cows and now things have slowed up to 2 or 3 a day.

Take care

Yes we all do have days like this!!! Ups and downs... sometimes I think my body is too smart for me!!! I just don't seem to be able to get on top of the plan and then the weight drops again. I've been following closely and trying to get a head of it.

Glad we can all appreciate what each person goes through.

Week 2 Blog 4....

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

Today's blog question is..How are you doing day by day...

I feel like I am working daily on improving my nutrition...

Today I read some more about nutrition..on Pinterest I pinned an article called 10 foods to never eat had some interesting points and lots of the foods I never eat anyway..and the others is a good reminder if I do eat them to do so in moderation..

The 10 things were..white bread * packaged energy bars * white rice * conventional frozen meals * microwaved popcorn * diet anything * cured meat products * GMO foods * margarine * soy milk and soy products....just a little "food" for thought...

Another article I found was in an e-mail I receive from Canadian Living magazine called Nutrition month..31 days of healthy recipes & best tips...lots of reading and ideas there...more "food" for thought.

I made my yummy soup today from the 5% challenge recipe was called Sayur Iodeh or veggie stew :) I left out a few of the ingredients and it was still delicious!! A little spicy so I have some majorly chapped lips ..that happens with spicy foods and cold weather....I made a huge pot so I'll have it for lunches for the rest of the week.

So the ways I can tell how I'm doing is if I am learning new things about nutrition; I am trying new foods and recipes; I am keeping up with my daily vitamin, green tea and water streaks ; I am tracking my food and staying within the range; and I am using spark for ideas, inspiration and encouragement..yes I did all that today...woo hoo me :)

Besides that meals were..oatmeal and dates for breakfast, my soup and crackers for lunch...was really hungry when I came in from chores so had a protein and fruit and 2 cookies...supper was left over beef roast, rice and corn and fruit for dessert..snack will be green tea and maybe something else..calories permitting...

We are still busy digging out after the blizzard..hubby moved lots of snow and I helped with bales..taking twines off, then we worked with the pairs, had 5 calves so far baby was tiny and has spent most of the day in the porch..more bottle feeding and one calf in the barn with a heifer for a momma needed a bottle too...then we ear tagged and turned out some pairs behind the barn..we have 19 calves so far...

I talked to one of my best friends today to see how they fared through the storm.. they had a horse go down and had to have it put down :( then their tractor broke they are having their share of troubles...also told me of a friend of ours that we used to work with is very sick and the drs have given her 2 days to 1 week to sad..she is about 10 years younger than me..more motivation for healthy lifestyle changes...

Today is our son's birthday..he lives in Saskatoon and is the youngest of our 3 children and the only boy..well man I should say..he turned 27 :) Talked to him on the phone to wish him a great day and he's off to a hockey game tonight and his girlfriend took the day off to spend it with him :)

I am relaxing and enjoying the hockey game Oilers and Blue Jackets are tied at 3. Looks like it may go into overtime ...

I'm really glad the blizzard stopped last night was calm but cold when I took the 11:30 pm check last night...

Well..thanks for dropping by and for all your kind comments..keep on Sparkin"

All that nutrition talk is making me healthy! Ok, I wish it was just that easy. I totally agree with the article on the 10 foods to stay away from. I eat the yogurt bars & they are pretty high in calories. I really need to eat more fruits & vege's. & less unhealthy stuff. So sorry about your ex coworker. And, your right what we put in our bodies can really wreak havoc if it's the wrong stuff. Here's to a healthy US! emoticon
