Between the raindrops

Friday, May 04, 2012

I did 45 minutes on the bike this morning and have been trying to talk myself in to using the treadmill but I so much prefer walking outside. The rain has finally stopped so I am thinking it is time to head out before it either gets too hot or rains again.

This is day 6 at the cabin - only 4 more to go emoticon before we need to go back to FL.

The four days will probably go by fast for you. The weather here is hot and I bet it's scorching in Florida. Thanks for your emoticon. I will have to work hard to get the 17 in 17. How are you doing with it?

I envy you the cool mountain temperatures since it's so hot right now in Florida. We need the rain too, so please send your showers this way! LOL
Enjoy your walk.

Enjoy your days in the mountains. It's suppose to be 92 degrees here today. Gwen and I enjoyed the park this morn, but headed home about 10am due to heat. -Marsha

The mountain walk

Wednesday, May 02, 2012

This morning I decided it was time to climb up the mountain/hill that rises past our cabin. My goal is to make it to the top without stopping for breath so I do lots of deep breathing all the way up. I would guess it is about a quarter of a mile of a continual fairly steep uphill climb before it begins to level out. After that it is a series of smaller ups and downs just to keep it interesting. I have learned that if I walk up for about 30 minutes it only takes me 20 to come back down so it is much easier walking on the return trip. While here at the cabin I'm going to aim to do that walk 3 days a week and the river walk (which is flat all the way) the other days.

Ramblings

Tuesday, May 01, 2012

I started the day off with a ride on the bike in the basement. I miss my bike being out on the deck and may have to change that as time goes on. Then I went downtown to get a haircut and did the river walk. RB and I went to Home Depot later in the day looking for marigolds but they were pretty sad. I'll check Lowe's tomorrow and see what I can find.

I think that putting your bike on the deck is a great idea. While you ride, you can watch the wildlife scampering about. I hope that you find your marigolds!

The bike on the porch sounds much more inviting than in the basement. I think that would be a move worth the effort. Hope you find just the right flowers, too. -Marsha

Mountain Strawberries

Monday, April 30, 2012

This morning we headed out to our favorite orchard/farmer's market just to see what was available and we had a surprise! We found the most wonderful GA mountain strawberries just coming in to season and as sweet and delicious as you could imagine. We also got some summer squash, baby cukes (yummy!) and tomatoes.

Back at the cabin I gathered up some more rocks and added some height to the little rock garden I started last Fall and cleaned out the leaves. Tomorrow I will add some marigolds as I am told the deer do not eat those.

I love fresh produce. It is the best! Sometimes deer will eat marigolds if the weather has been very dry. If there are other things to eat, they will leave them alone. Your rock garden sounds wonderful. Once you get your flowers planted, will you post a picture of it?

Day 1 at the cabin

Sunday, April 29, 2012

We pulled in yesterday afternoon and as usual the 8.5 drive did us in. We went to the local supermarket and made use of their salad bar and a container of home made vegetable soup - we really need to get Publix to do this! We picked up a few things to get us through a couple of days - milk, lettuce, bananas, etc.

Today RB raked all the leaves off the steps, driveway, walkways and from around the front of the cabin. I got a bucket of water, soap and bleach and attacked both the front and back decks and the outdoor furniture and cleaned the dust, pollen, etc. off of everything. Because the cabin sits on a very heavily treed lot we get lots of cobwebs so that means the screens have to come off the windows so the cobwebs can be cleaned out from between the screens and the windows. Believe me, the windows don't get opened until that is done!!!

We are both officially wiped out for today so good thing we have an easy supper to pull together tonight - salad and chicken.
